I never said that training would help... im just pointing out that it is controllable and refinable in theory, since the original Calamity Witch earned her name by creating and using a variation of it that swapped it from a high penetration bunkerbuster to a city murdering scattershot buster. Its just beyond Taylor's skill level.

We actually need a word of QM on that, since it could just be an excuse as to why Lacey got retconned and IAE can handle the problem now that it's aware. Silently has said nothing about us needing the Devices to sacrifice to make it work, some people jumped on that idea all on their own.

Maybe they're right, but it could also be that templates are impossible now without hooking IAE up to a power grid (I don't think this is the case), we don't have confirmation either way.

Which means: @Silently Watches, is the Lacey affinity/rare skill issue a one-off to justify the Retcon, or something we actually have to consider from now on?

Edit to avoid double posting: Nope, the original Calamity Witch developed a City Killer version, which was a bunch of mini-nukes rather than one big one. Spreads out the explosions and tends to do more damage. Not useful vs Endbringers, but great for genocide!
... We don't need to learn how to do that, for obvious reasons.

It's part a one-off issue to justify the retcon, and now that PS/IAE is aware, it will be drawing mana differently from Taylor to "twist" it into non-elemental mana. Which is going to suck more for Taylor, and she'll be willing to do it at most twice when she gets a taste of the new version before she says no more, I'm done, I can't do this. Which coincidentally means that you have at most two templates to give out as I've told you OOC… :whistle:

Problem is, if we do this, Immortal Assimilation Engine, the Mad Lost Logia, will detach himself from Perfect Storm, Taylor's Loyal Device.
Side effects may include brainwashing for all future Template mages, panicking TSAB Enforcers and Glory to Galea.

That won't save Taylor from being a living battery, as far as I understand (@Silently Watches please correct me if I'm wrong).

Basically IAE needs two things to build a Template Device:

Firstly, plenty of energy, and Taylor is the only suitable source. So if we want to give a Template we need to spend an action for that and Taylor needs to spend several days in IAE's torture chamber.

Secondly, plenty of materials. IAE breaks himself apart to build a Template Device and then regenerates for six weeks. Providing five Devices for him will shorten this period to two weeks.

Okay wow, that's some powerful generators. o_O
Makes sense considering Devices' morphing and sealing capabilities.
I just thought they're powered mostly by their wielders' mana, similar to Familiars and Guardian Beasts.

But that also means there is a way to circumvent your justification for banning new Templates.
Taylor won't consider that being a source of energy for IAE sucks too much if she doesn't serve as a source of energy for IAE. :p

There are three explicit methods to power a template. In character, we've found that at least once, powering the process by ourselves prevented the template from taking hold. In character, with how uncomfortable the process already is, I wouldn't expect Taylor to be willing to put up with a worse option when we have the 'sacrifice Devices' option that has the sole downside of costing extra build actions from Tim.

To be fair, some people continued to think that before he was confined to a mental institution. It's also possible that there are some people who still think it's a good idea, but I'd rather not know if that were the case :p

Side effects also include the TSAB using an Arc-en-ciel on Earth Bet, destroying its ability to support life of any form. There's a reason they brought that weapon, after all, as IAE allowed to run amok could wipe out the entirety of the TSAB and keep going.

A detail left out of SWs post was that it will still cost one of our weekly actions to give out a template, we just won't be in a coffin for that time period.

Also, as I keep bringing up, the cooldown for Template by Easybake!Taylor is 6 weeks. The cooldown for sacrificing Devices is 2 weeks. If we want to get to the deeper spells in the templates, we really need to apply both of the remaining ones as fast as possible.

Edit:
We could do one Template by sacrificing Devices and the other by Easybake!Taylor, since SW doesn't want us doing more than two more templates anyway.

What we need as we grow larger is more Gadgeteer mages for infrastructure, not necessarily IG mages, but proficient enough to copy Tim's designs and crank out Intelligent / Armed / Storage / whatever minor devices we need mass produced.

A Barrier Jacket plus the same kind of gun we're building for Kayleigh would EASILY turn 20% of the PRT troopers into something like Brute 4 Blaster 4.
