Would've already guessed such.

Best guess is Hell. But the thing is, all the deals Hell would offer would basically make puppets of the Lannisters. Their utility to actually getting rid of Viserys, the true threat, is minimal, and their ability to actually leverage control over the nobility, much less the small folk, isn't much greater than Legions of devils force marching everyone to death while whipping them every step. It'd be simpler to focus on killing Viserys and then ruling through a less irritating proxy for some of that systematic soul-harvesting goodness they did with Valyria.

So who would give Tywin a deal for firepower he'd actually swallow?

Then it hit upon me. The Brass Bastard. He's got enough on his plate that legitimately conquering the Prime Material long term is a distant concern right now. But positive relations with Tywin like we've got with the Shaitan and Djinn? Only obstacle there is Lanna and Gerion would so not be on it, seeing as it would likely involve quite a bit of "selling small folk into slavery" and other clownishly evil nonsense, since Efreeti can't avoid maximum mustache twirling in all their dealings right now. One whiff of that getting out and it's all downhill. Another mark against a possible alliance--we've uncapped the genie so to speak on just what the fire spirits are all about. One hint of that, and Tywin's PR goes from "not specifically picking a fight with him" to "he's working with slavers who make Essosi magisters look like puppies, he's gotta go now".

And Efreeti don't seem big on subtlety from what I can tell. Unless you spell 'subtlety' like this.

Didn't we see a Lannister agent in the Brass City?

Whatever monstrosity he signs up with, Tywin's not going to lay down and die.

Tywin's already on a thin-thread with Hell.

Coalitioning with the City of Brass is going to make that plumet deeper than Tiamat's infernal womb!

That was the Opaline Vault, and they were anything but friendly to the local genies.

Include Wilhelm Darry, or Bonifer Hasty, or both here as company. They're no Richard, but they'll entertain her at least and be the human company.

[X] Crake
...are you implying that an emotionless murderhobo-drone and a dragon aren't a sufficiently entertaining company?
Heresy!
:V

You can yes, though I'm going to need a vote on who teaches.
Not to question your QM-powers, but as the situation was outlined by Crake..?
No, we haven't established a Scholarum there yet. It takes resources distinctly different than what was basically the resources necessary to establish the Inquisition there immediately. So the institutional build-up wasn't equivalent, thus we'd have to actually use an action to extend it to there. It didn't seem to hold priority, considering most Braavosi who'd be interested are likely to be among the many immigration waves.
Also, More caster-templated Leshy are the "default" for any teacher we send anywhere these days, unless specified otherwise.

Hm.
*adds a few more MAs*
is free afaik, adding him to Rhaella's company.
Is penned in on this task as a dedicated meatshield, while he can be pulled off it, I think he plays nicely enough with the rest of the team to be not to, whatever the action:

Hmm... true, ebtter to have a option in the turn vote to handle the administrative elements, though with a slightly lower progress to show existing infrastructure.

Part MMMCCLV: Upon a Rising Tide
Upon a Rising Tide

Twenty Eighth Day of the Eleventh Month 293 AC

"To answer in the order asked; I have few intentions to specifically grant lands in Westeros to those born in Essos, except in the cases where they might improve relations rather than act as a source of strife, the Northern Vale for instance, and those who are already well-familiar with Westeros and its culture, such as the First Legion's own commander," you reply honestly. It will be hard enough to get the lords to acquiesce to all the changes Imperial integration brings their way without raising their hackles further. It is telling, after all, that this was the first question Ser Cuthen asked.

"Although Ser Gerold's wife is Braavosi, I hope that most can look beyond such petty things as the land of one's birth when, of one realm forged, there is a commonality beyond which all concerns should stem, that we are all one people and hold hopes and dreams similar to one another, if not in every aspect." This earns the approval of Ser Bonifer, at least, though the words seem to fly right over the other knight's head like an albatross over a farmer's, pretty to look at but not counted meaningful.

Thankfully, you do not need him to be inspired by your vision, just convinced that it is in his lord's best interest to bend the knee. You take a sip of the ale, happily noting it's of fair to middling quality. The fact that your soldiers and sailors are not drinking the sort of swill Mern served at the Rat back in the day is one more mark of how the city prospers as it grows. "Yes, I will rule from Sorcerer's Deep, but I will not be a distant ruler who's hand is only ever felt by proxy. Word of my traveling about the Riverlands righting wrongs isn't just some manner of mummery to make the people think well of me. I am in truth always moving, always working my will where my eyes can rest upon the source of the ills that plague the realm."

"Fairly said, it'll take some time for the Seven Kingdoms to grow accustomed to a king who can fly again," the Crownlander knight says. "They say the keep crowns the hill. Without the court, King's Landing's likely to lose out to other cities, and Mother knows it could use a mite of royal favor."

"I assure you, Ser Cuthen, I do not have to constantly smell the reek of Flea Bottom under my nose to do something about it," you reply dryly. "I can only be in so many places at once, but I hope to meet with each of my lords in person as regularly as I can. There are also plans to ensure that the lords' representatives will have a direct link to the Crown, such that its arbitration is not only readily available but my ear can be bent directly to not only that which troubles the lords of the land, but their hopes for the future."

To that you get a firmer nod, words that fit better into the knight's conception of how lord and land are bound. Now for the draught that will be hardest to make sweet.

"Lastly, these 'New Men' which you speak of will no more replace the necessity of the lords who swear fealty to me than the magic of translocation replaces ships, or for that matter mages replace a craftsman," the closest thing to a lie you have said so far, for truth be told you are concerned about the dangers of some mages replacing common craft and how that may lead many to ruin. Still, that is hardly a conversation for present circumstances.

Thus you continue to explain the place of those new-risen in your service. "By their skills they can enhance the work of others, this is true, and men with the will and dedication to the task in question can rise above the mire and muck which have left them sunken beneath the reeds of ignominy, but in essence it is loyalty I reward, of all varieties, so long as the one possessing it has the virtue to fill the role they aspire towards, and no further. I do not, on the other hand, reward mediocrity in all things, nor do I appreciate those whose one talent involves a glib tongue readily offering fulsome praises and little else, as magisters have learned quite sharply in these lands."

Not that you plan to treat repeated mulish hostility any more or less sternly than sycophancy, but that you leave to Ser Cuthen to read in the silence that follows. "Aye, but there be many weaselly men who aspire to lofty heights and are none too particular about how they get there," he grumbles halfheartedly.

"Then let them be punished for their means, not their desires," Ser Bonifer interjects. "Ambition is not itself an evil, though in its shadow might many evils spring," he paraphrases from the Book of the Father. You had not thought to use that since the original quote was about lust rather than ambition, but it does fit quite nicely now that you hear it.

"New Men or King's Men, it makes little difference, they are both mine to lead and protect into a brighter tomorrow, just as it is my duty to reconcile the desires of both until they are equally satisfied. If one should declare the other free to be dispensed with for they are 'no longer necessary'," though you do not quite indulge in rolling your eyes, the tone makes the sentiment clear, "then they shall be most disappointed."

"Fair answers all, Your Grace," the knight says after only a few more moments of thought. "I will take ship with the evening tide to get them to Lord Mallery as swift as can be managed, he's sure worried about his youngest and I think what I have to say will help set his mind at ease."

"As to that, Ser, I can ensure he receives those answers faster than wind and wave can bear them..." you say, rising from your seat.

When you next see Lord Lothar Mallery, the first time you have met him openly, he seems a man transformed. Deep grooves of worry and concern were carved into his face, but the smile he greets you with is honest enough. Whatever trials and tribulations he may have passed through over the past few months he seems to have weathered the challenges and made his peace with them. Unsurprisingly, he asks you many of the same questions as his envoy, as well as others you have heard before from many a lord, about gods and magic, trade and law, but by the time the hour is out he is clearly on the cusp of swearing himself and his House to you, for the sake of seeing his younger son 'deal with magic', but he does not yet know about Edric...

Excuse me for out-of-date question.
In the interlude VII there was Tristifer Mudd, Fourth of his Name, wight with character levels. Could ser Arthur Dane with his Dawn theoretically defeat him? Or any other exceptional swordsmen (Jaime Lannister, Barristan Selmy) with some valyrian sword?

I say we tell him. Brag a little that our speeches can make mages out of men :V

Also, the year is almost up. SD's anniversary is coming soon. The first party bash for an almost reforged Valryia is coming. Do we invite the Sultan, Sultana, and some heads of state from the Plane of Water?

Here's an edited version of the chapter, DP.

*sigh*
Well, I handed in the fucktarded lexicology test I've been struggling with material for over 2 weeks, and now, my semester is officially over.
Yay me.

I can do stuff without my conscience eating away at me, now.

@Goldfish, @Deliste, ya two already have some semblance of order-plan for next month's fleshforging?
I'd like to include it in the monthly MA-plan as well, to cut down on voting a bit.
Congrats, dude. I remember how much of a relief it used to be when I finally put a semester to bed and had a bit of time to breath...before the next semester started, at least.

I don't have a comprehensive plan yet, but I can start putting something together.

In addition to growing more of what we've already started working on, we should grow a bunch of @Deliste's CR 2 Verdant Kingfishers. Unfortunately, they aren't smart enough to give complex tasks, but they make great guardians for Heart Trees and other important locations while also serving as a decent fire-and-forget ranged attacker.

Mushroom Golems and Pumpkin Golems are also on the list.

And Efreeti don't seem big on subtlety from what I can tell. Unless you spell 'subtlety' like this.
This is disturbingly plausible.

I'm still of the opinion that we should attempt to contact Lanna and Gerion sooner rather than later. If we can flip them, or just ensure their neutrality, that would be very helpful in securing Westeros, the Westerlands especially. Even better if they can use their influence over the Golden Shields to keep some of them from trying to fight us and being exterminated in the exchange.
@Goldfish, friendly reminder to please remember the Guardian Nagas. Without the infertility, please. We don't have to make a fuck ton, but given that they're active citizens with normal desires no need to nerf these ones. In the scope of the quest their breeding is functionally non-existent anyway.
Don't worry, I haven't forgotten.

But did we get confirmation from @DragonParadox that we can grow them? They're typically Aberrations, though DP changed them to be Magical Beasts for fluff reasons, but we don't really have anything to work from as an example. They're not Draconic in nature, nor are they augmented by templates.
[] Reaching for the Reach: Rhaella ventures forth into the Reach independently of your own course, heading the charge on some of the Houses who might find the prospect of your rule more palatable. Once she has picked all of the low-hanging fruit, as it were, you will reconvene with her and decide how to split the rest of the work, where it will require your own personal touch and whereby you might delegate further.
---- Rhaella, The Seeker (CR 15), 1x Mind Dragon, Umbral Stalker

@Goldfish Not sure who else you wanted to send with Rhaella but those were the "for sure" column.
We were also planning to send an Umbral Stalker to help with Malarys' efforts dealing with Devils in Slaver's Bay. If we want to do both, we'll need to wait to send Rhaella off to the Reach for at least nine or ten days while another Umbral Stalker is completed, or wait to send one to Slaver's Bay. Between Lya and Anu, they can get it done that quick, and we can have it properly equipped for its role.

Do we have Sandor or Thoros tentatively assigned to anything yet? Ser Kennos Kayce would also be a good fit (we really need to do his level up and retraining, I'm such a procrastinator) if neither Sandor or Thoros are available.

Glyra would be a good addition, too, especially for dealing with Fey and Reach intrigue shenanigans. At an effective level of 14th she's no pushover, and could acquire spells from Rhaella and the Mind Dragon to further expand her options. Her Trickster's Bargain ability might let her bind more Fey into her service while she's on the job, too. With her sky high UMD skill, we could give her some very helpful Divine spell scrolls to cover some of the group's weak points.

Both are on this, but if you have better thoughts for re-composition of the people assigned to Delve/Adventure-type actions for the 12th month...
Feel free ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
[] The Barrows of the Lost Clans: Finish cleaning up the halls of Lost Clans of Freefolk, filled with risen dead – the bodies unburned by foolish people of now nameless clans. (Opposition: ??; Rewards: ??)
---- 1 Yssian Guardian Naga, Velen the Phoenix birb, Oberyn, Thoros of Myr, Wyla, Sandor, 1 Herald
ESSOS:
[] Chains and Collars, of Hells and Mortals: Contain the further spread of Asmodeus pawns through the actions of High-ranking Devils that haven't been dealt with the last month. Gain insight into the best approach to take over the Slavers' Bay afterward. -- A month-long action.
---- Malarys, Garin, 1 Mind Dragon, 2 Drow!Assasins, Orphne Feylord, 1 Umbral Stalker, 3 Umbral Spies, the Asura, The Misfits (3 of them - without their alchemist).

[] Gold, Broken - Final Preparations: WIth general knowledge on Golden Company, their Shadow Fortress and the spy-ring in Yi-Ti acquired, it is time to do the final preparations before the amassed attack - scouting out the locations of commanders, and such matters - things that Mindblanked companions would be needed for because of Tiamat's clerics constant Divination.
--(The attack itself is a "free" action, but dealing with preparations, and mopping up the remains would take a week+ of time from the group assigned)
---- Waymar, Tyene, Teana, Rina, Dany, Richard, 1 Mind Dragon

BEYOND THE WALL:
[] The Barrows of the Lost Clans: Finish cleaning up the halls of Lost Clans of Freefolk, filled with risen dead – the bodies unburned by foolish people of now nameless clans. (Opposition: ??; Rewards: ??)
---- 1 Yssian Guardian Naga, Velen the Phoenix birb, Oberyn, Thoros of Myr, Wyla, Sandor, 1 Herald

[] Saltwives' Lament: Standing on the shore of the Sunset Sea upon Sea-Dragon point is a tower of white stone, that seems to have been dipped in salt, local legend claiming from the tears of the kidnapped maidens locked within by cruel ironborn lords. Supposedly such was their sorrow that the sky itself took pity upon them and spat forth a mighty storm to sunder the longships that would take them on to the Iron Isles. Whether they were then slain as witches, or if the deed itself required spilling their heart's blood none can say for certain but all tales agree that one can still hear their sobs and cries whenever a storm strikes those shores. What is clear is that no bird or beast will approach the tower willingly and when Boloodraven drove a raven to do so despite its instincts he briefly spotted pale figure upon the tower's crumbling battlements
Likely Foes: Ghosts and Wraiths
CR: 5-7
---- Mia the Inquisitor, Anya the Inquisitor, Kira Windgraced, Mors 'Crowfood' Umber, Leila Goldhammer, 2 Erynies,

WESTEROS:

[] Reaching for the Reach: Rhaella ventures forth into the Reach independently of your own course, heading the charge on some of the Houses who might find the prospect of your rule more palatable. Once she has picked all of the low-hanging fruit, as it were, you will reconvene with her and decide how to split the rest of the work, where it will require your own personal touch and whereby you might delegate further.
---- Rhaella, The Seeker (CR 15), 1x Mind Dragon, Wilhelm Darry

[] Overreaching Wrought Ruin: There are a number of Reacher Lords who either require dismissing from consideration for the virtue of arranging stronger political alliances, or who's situation will involve some degree of finesse or intrigue to acquire their surety of loyalty. Besides that of which, a number have presented you with the conundrum of ostensible neutrality in all matters but their loyalty to Highgarden, who at any moment you could do more than embarrass with but a word, you could ruin their very standing among all who hold fealty toward them with the starkest truth of their actions and inaction. Bending their neck came first, having them bend their closer vassals ears to your will would be next.
---- Viserys, ?????

[] Capping off a Danger: Cleaned out as most of darker WylkFae have been by Faith and the clansmen, some still escaped. Hunt down the dangerous Redcap murdering travelers, now moved to Kingswood in search of more prey. (Opposition: ??, Redcaps; Rewards: ??)
---- Glyra, Ser Bonifer Hasty, Ser Gerold 'Darkstar' Dayne, Jeyne Weaver (after visiting Gith), Roger Reyne, Aradia the Huntress, 2 Erynies.

[] A Darker Kind of Fey: Deal with various Fey of Court of Stars proving a danger to people of Westeros:
-[] Swift Eye, a Quickling who haunts the outskirts of Oldtown alongside his troupe has been known to deal with Deep Ones. On the other hand, he has helped the Lantern Bearers as much if not more. His greed seems to be the great constant of his being. Due to his loyalty to the court, he has been left in peace, though it has been foretold that he will meet an unfortunate end soon at the hands of Deep One agents. He is counted among the Gold faction.
-[] Jagged Knife, a Redcap whose court has set up on the edge of the Rainwood ambushing travelers, particularly families with young children whom he torments with dreadful choices trading lives until they go mad. He is only nominally part of the Court of Stars. Crimson Lotus suspects he gained that position by some manner of blackmail. Killing him might gain favor with his supposed patron of the Indigo if one can stomach working with a being who tacitly allowed such monstrous deeds.
----- Shara the Inquisitor, Azema, Danar & Alyssa Crowl, 3 Erynies, Mereth,

OTHER PLANES:
[] The Rot of Stone, on paths of Trade: Clear out the infestation of Rotstone near the Xorn trade route.
(Opposition: ??, Aberrations; Rewards: ??). -- Guaranteed Aberrations, possibly Beholders.
---- Xor, Lady Saenena, Zherys, 1 Yssian Guardian Naga, 4 Erynies

[] A Fire, on Fire Turned: Aid the rebel Salamander Kingdoms by striking at their rivals.
(Opposition: ??; Rewards: ??)
---- Amrelath, Melisande, Siduri & Yrten + crew, 5 Erynies, 1 Mind Dragon, 1 Herald

[] Plane of Water, massive of MAs: See the List of Minor Actions.
---- Viserys, ???
EDIT:
Glyra would be a good addition, too, especially for dealing with Fey and Reach intrigue shenanigans.
@Goldfish, Glyra's on this btw:

Both are on this, but if you have better thoughts for re-composition of the people assigned to Delve/Adventure-type actions for the 12th month...
Feel free ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

EDIT: @Goldfish, Glyra's on this btw:
Hmm, I wouldn't want to weaken the group that is going to be dealing with the "Barrows of the Lost Clans" action. Those are always dangerous. Best to leave that group alone.

While the "Capping Off a Danger" action would give Glyra a chance to add some reformed Redcaps to her Troupe, I don't really think they would be very compatible with her even after getting the Troupe conversion. She also shouldn't be necessary considering all of the other forces we are sending.

How about Glyra and Ser Kennos to accompany Rhaella in the Reach, @Crake?

[X] Contrive a way to meet the boy and 'incidentally' notice his magic
-[X] Ask to speak to Denys. We are curious about the Mother Earth, from whom his power seems to originate. She is an ancient, nearly forgotten deity, one whom very little extant information remains. We are always on the lookout to establish friendly relations with benign deities.
--[X] Try to maneuver Lothar so that he invites himself and Edric to attend this meeting, but if he proves difficult to guide in this manner, outright invite him and Edric. Denys being a Cleric of Mother Earth is relevant to both of them, not only due to the general beliefs about magic shared by many Westerosi, but also their dealings with the Lannisters and the implications of the boy paying homage to a god other than the Seven in a land where they nominally hold sway.
---[X] This should also give Edric an opportunity to share the nature of his own newfound magic.

I would rather do this only when we are basically ready to fight, maybe not perfect as I am hoping for, but not with Tiamat and Deep Ones in the way, maybe not even with Asmodeus' scheme on the back-burner. I am not willing to compromise on the points they would likely argue for, using our our enemies as a stick to prop in-between the two of us and setting off the war prematurely when we could legitimately suffer for it. Right now they seem to be waiting for an opportunity to inquire as to our intentions, and I'd rather only give it to them when they can't attempt to force us into a compromise by using the lives and prosperity of our sworn vassals in Westeros as leverage.

After all the helping Tywin they did, I flat out refuse to budge on the likely asks, like letting Tyrion inherit the Rock, not breaking up the Westerlands, not breaking up the Golden Shields, and a few other things someone backed into a corner with not much to lose might ask when they know they're running out of opportunities to bargain for it.

I am going to have to buckle down this weekend and see if we need to reassign people at all. I know we did last month because you made a few assumptions about what people could be doing that was more like "well I'm not sure where else to stick this person", but it's a real pain in the ass to conceptualize everything without having all the strategic turn numbers for this month rolled for yet.

Yeah, I don't have any issue with waiting until more immediate issues are handled.

I'm also not particularly willing to negotiate with them. They'll be lucky to keep Castamere, so them pushing for more is pretty much off the table as far as I'm concerned. Maybe, and it's a big maybe, we could let them adopt Tyrion into their family as a Castamere, or whatever they end up being after we dissolve the Lannister name?

I am extremely partial to Casterly of Castamere. Alliteration aside, it is my final revenge against Tywin.

And quite frankly, they would be getting off easy with that. My final line for that vote is basically a readied reply of "I would have suggested "Reyne" but I already have one of those waiting."

I can't think of a better threat than that.

Interlude DCLXXIX: Forgotten Folk
Forgotten Folk

Twenty Eighth Day of the Eleventh Month 293 AC

Djir felt naked under the silvery glow of the of the witch-light, for while tunnel runners had shown themselves to the Dwellers Above for what they were before it had always been those that few of their fellows would listen to. Men were good at discounting that which they did not understand... they were even better at killing them. This man from Beyond the Bitter Water was different, he could call upon the Goldcloaks and be believed, he could even send his own runners to find the Warren. Had not the man Laedar done so already? No one since the Twice Born had managed that.

The elders had talked and talked, until it would seem, their whiskers would fall off, but in the end the answer they must give was clear. With great risk came great opportunity, they would seek the one who would trade knowings and shinies with them. Djir had been the one chosen to make the journey and bring back word if he found it good, though of course he was to lie that he might escape if he found it as bad as the bargain the dark spirits of fire and black fumes made.

"The eldest of us are perhaps thirteen or fourteen of your years old, though we are not as foolish as the striplings that steal in the markets, no. The Waters of Knowledge were well named, they changed our bodies to what you see now, but more they changed our minds that we would see and understand what was, that we would hear the squeaks in the silence and know them to be true... sorcery you would say, yes?"

"Yes?" the gleam in the merchant's eye was as bright as though Djir had revealed an entire chest of gold. Did he value the knowings of elder wisdom more than gold then? If so he was among the wisest men Djir had seen. Gold and silver were of little worth beyond their shine, heavy and soft.

"We learned how to grow the mushroom in the dark, grow quick and strong, then how to be hidden and quiet, very quiet," Djir explained. "But even so, many of us who went to the World Above in those days did not return, it was hard to learn without being known. Then the Twice Born came down to us and we learned of the Guild and the things it wished done in its cauldrons a potion to make a better mage. Much, much poured down the stone drains."

"An alchemist came to live among you?" the question was strangely sharp.

"He discovered some of the mushrooms we were selling and they were magic elder-bright," the tunnel runner explained, whiskers twitching in frustration at not having the proper human words. "He was hiding too, from those of fire and black reek who said he belonged to them since they gave the Guild knowings." Djir could feel his hand twitch in anger and he had to focus to not scratch the shinny wood of the counter. "Knowings not belong once said and heard, people never belong to other people. We fought, ambushed in tunnels, killed black-fume beasts, but Twice Born died before he could teach us more. We buried him the human graveyard, but we always carry him with us."

"These black fume spirits, did they look like this?" the man asked, taking a three-sided crystal out of a drawer with images of many strange things dancing in its depths, most strange but some not. The little red stingers that would pretend to be rats and not be and the bearded ones that spread the evil chills.

"Them, yes, we killed some, tricked more, then left to make new Warren, they did not trouble us for... moon-turns," Djir used the word carefully, still not certain of things that had to do with the fine movement of the heavens.

"Devils then," the man Jaedar said darkly. "It looks like we have an enemy in common, though truth be told it is one shared by all the world though most are not wise enough to see it."

OOC: And so a little more about the alchemists expertness in their years under Aerys are reveled, though with the Guild destroyed it's probably not going to be possible to ever learn all of it.

Here's an edited version of the chapter, DP.

I really want the Ratfolk to immigrate to SD.
