Honestly not surprised that Pyromancers have been dumping their toxic/magic waste in King's Landing's sewers for most likely centuries. I'm sure more than the warrenfolk have been made; natural oozes, mutated animals, etc. That would making King's Landing's sewers basically your typical dungeon!

@DragonParadox what do Scholarum and other magical schools do with their magical waste from alchemical and other crafting processes?

They generally dry and incinerate it, fire purifies most arcane influences.

That is good, environmental hazards become a lot more hazardous if you are freely dumping regents, old potions, etc improperly after all should range from anything to large fine to jail time depending on results.

For example if your constant dumping leads to the unintentional creation of an ooze who then eats someone you should be punished harshly for that.

Awesome! We've made contact with the Ratfolk. Now we need to convince them all to move to SD.

Why? They are most likely comfortable in King's Landing, they have no problem living behind scenes or under feet, and we do plan to conquer city at some point so kinda moot point. If they were in danger of being wiped out sure, but they seem alright.

I am curious if they want to set up a warren in SD, I'm sure there are many young adults who want to start their own warrens around world in different cities.

  • [X] Approach the Mallery envoy to get a better impression of what Lothar Mallery expects
-[X] If there is an Inquisition report pertaining to the envoy, use it to familiarize ourselves with the man and to learn what he's been up to in Sorcerer's Deep since arriving here.
--[X] If his impression seems to have been favorable up to this point, seek him out directly and make an introduction. He's been sent here to ask questions and to learn of us and our realm, so perhaps he would like to hear the some answers directly from the Dragon's mouth, so to speak?
--[X] If it seems the envoy has not formed a favorable impression during his time in Sorcerer's Deep, we will instead contact Edric Mallery via a Sending spell in order to arrange a meeting with him as our point of contact with the Mallerys.

So does this mean that untreated magical waste is actually good for the environment? It did create a species instead of wiping one out after all.
It's about no more harmful than wild magic, which is to say that you can't predict what it will do, create monsters, or warp together with someone else's spells being cast in an area over and over and over again until it explodes such that it taints the land for hundreds or thousands of years.

I would say if you are going to harness it, try to use as little magic as possible, and don't make it the cornerstone of your civilization.

Because they're forced to live in hiding among the waste products of a disgusting human city, always fearful that discovery could mean death.

Discovery does mean death. Not all cities in the Imperium even are as welcome and open to new sorts of people, just the ones with horns and scales mind you, than they are to people like Minotaurs or outright snake people or hell, even Outsiders. They won't attack them on sight, but only because there are soldiers and now lawmen who would prevent a mob from forming, and the Inquisition would quickly nip any "human supremacist" nonsense in the bud, make it stillborn even.

In King's Landing? They would kill them on sight, name them fiends, or capture them and try turning them into some kind of weapon if they're Golden Shields.

In White Harbor, Lord Manderly's selkie allies still have to hide their true nature.

All that aside, King's Landing is gross, and just because a rat can stomach refuse and survive in squalor doesn't mean they are likely to enjoy it once introduced to clean homes, good food and free healing or even education.

Of course we're going to improve King's Landing too, but attitudes there will shift very slowly.

Part MMMCCLIV: The King in Common Halls
The King in Common Halls

Twenty Eighth Day of the Eleventh Month 293 AC

The Inquisition has some experience with keeping track of visitors from Westeros, be they second sons looking to try their luck in the Circle of Battle, hedge knights looking for a place in the Legion or the envoys of one lord or another trying to untangle fact from fancy. Each of them could be a malicious spy, though no small number of even that breed decide to defect rather than return to their lords with unpalatable tales and no answers or solutions.

Thankfully, Ser Cuthen Thornhedge was not counted among those whose observations are hostile to the realm, asking with more or less subtly how mages may be killed or dragons shot down from the sky, instead he seems concerned about how people actually live in your realm, particularly those who choose to worship the Seven, having been witness to quite a few sermons. He has spoken to legionaries and clerks, craftsmen and traders, a few days ago he had even spoken to one of the triton ship-guards over a tankard or three. Encouraged by what you read you decide to approach the man.

Yet for all you had learned from the inquisitor's reports it is still the person sitting opposite to Ser Cuthren who surprises you the most, Bonifer Hasty, looking to your eyes not entirely at ease in the shadowy tavern among the scent of wine and spice, the rough jests of soldiers and sailors echoing to the rafters.

As he spots you the Stormlander knight begins to rise to his feet that he might bow, though most of the rest of the patrons do not recognize you with crown and gilded cloak hidden beneath a glamour. "It looks like you will not have to seek an audience, Ser Knight," he says ruefully to Ser Cuthren, much to the younger man's surprise, which only grows to shock when he realizes what he meant.

With a small spell to ensure your words do not draw undue attention you motion for Ser Bonifer to sit, giving Lord Mallery's envoy time to compose himself. "I do not expect court protocol in a tavern, just as I would be rather upset at tavern protocol in my court," you note, with a offhanded jab at the Usurper to test the waters.

Ser Cuthen snorts in laughter seemingly in spite of himself. Not any sort of diplomat then, chosen for his discretion and perhaps his discernment then. "Your Grace, I had not expected to see you in such a place..." his voice grows darker as he glances at Ser Bonifer.

"I have people looking out for unusual travelers," you interject before the suspicion can take root. "Spies and worse are unfortunately quite common here. The worst of it involved wildfire," you finish. The last word alone would have drawn the attention of half the room if it had not been for the ward.

"Yes, Ser Bonifer told me of that among other things, I had not expected to find him here. He was..." the knight trails off, realizing he had been about to say something indelicate. Definitely not a diplomat.

"We crossed lances some five and thirty years ago at a tourney in the Eyrie and parted as friends," Ser Bonifer offers to help him out of the rut.

The Crownlander knight explains his position and to your surprise even Denys' magic, though not in any detail, before concluding: "To tell the truth, Your Grace, I have fewer questions now than when I first landed here, even one or two fewer than when you walked into the tavern."

"Certainly," you nod.

"Do you mean to land any favorites from Essos in the Crownlands? Will you be ruling from King's Landing or from here?" With a deep breath he adds. "Do you mean to rule in peace and in war through the lords or through these New Men of yours?"

What do you reply?

OOC: This guy us actually pretty favorable to you thanks to high background rolls and Bonifer's intervention, but he rolled up the diplomatic skills of a baked potato on character generation so his questions come off as rather more hostile than they really are.

[X] "To answer in the order asked, I have few intentions to specifically grant lands in Westeros to those born in Essos except in the cases where they might better relations than act as a source of strife, such as in the Northern Vale, as well as those who are already well-familiar with Westeros and the culture, such as the First Legion's own commander."
-[X] "Though his wife is Braavosi, I hope that most could look beyond such petty things as the land of one's birth when of one realm forged there is a commonality beyond which all concerns should stem, that we are all one people and hold hopes and dreams similar to one another if not in every aspect."
-[X] "Yes, I will rule from Sorcerer's Deep, but I will not be a distant ruler who's hand is only ever felt by proxy. The word of my traveling about the Riverlands righting wrongs isn't in essence just a manner of mummery to make the people think well of me, I am in truth always moving, always working my will where my eyes can rest upon the source of the ills that plague the realm.
-[X] I can only be in so many places at once, but I hope to meet with each of my Lords in person as regularly as I can and have efforts in the works to ensure that their own representatives will have a direct link to the Crown, that its arbitration is not only readily available but my ear can be bent directly to not only that which troubles the Lords of the land, but their hopes for the future."
-[X] "Lastly, these "New Men" which you speak of no more replace the necessity of the Lords who do swear me fealty than magic of translocation replaces ships, or for that matter mages replace a craftsman.
-[X] By their skills they can enhance the work of the other, this is true, and men with the will and dedication commiserate to the task in question can rise above the mire and muck which had left them sunken beneath the reeds of ignominy, but in essence it is loyalty I reward, of all varieties, so long as the one possessing it has the virtue to fill the role they aspire towards, and no further.
-[X] I do not, on the other hand, reward mediocrity in all things, but for the one talent involving a glib tongue readily offering fulsome praises, as Magisters have learned quite sharply in these lands." Which means to say, those who rule in Westeros will be sorely tested if all they continue to offer is bluster. Repeated and stubborn hostility to an open hand is met no more or less sternly than sycophancy.
-[X] "New Men or King's Men, it makes little difference, they are both mine to lead and protect into a brighter tomorrow, just as it is my duty to reconcile the desires of both until they are equally satisfied. If one should declare the other free to be dispensed with for they are 'no longer necessary'," you don't even try to hide the rolling of your eyes, "then they shall be most disappointed."

Sorry this is not the most engaging vote to leave this on guys, I'm almost tempted to go for four updates but it's almost midnight and I don't think I could produce decent quality writing this late.
