Are people saying that Hold maximizes time they spend in Eye territory? Because they'll be able to get to Karagril and Mhonar without being exposed, and holding those points is going to really really hurt. The point that Dwarves can most efficiently trade lives when on fortified defenses is valid, but it is explicitly noted that they will be far more sapped of motivation and manpower after they run the Obstacle Course From Hell and the Waagh is getting gutted, making them easier to deal with. This is exactly the kind of elastic defense we should employ, I think.

It doesn't maximizes time spent in the eye. It maximizes time spent in range of our massive artillery batteries and doom anvils. Also people have brought up that with the number of snotlings they have the orcs ran run a truly massive number of traps with little morale loss.

No, we are saying it maximizes them being in literally everything else territory.

They can get there without being exposed to the Eye. They're still very much exposed to pre-sighted artillery, and multiple Runelords, for however long it takes them to first open up the mountain entrances then fight their way in.

It's just not the Eye that we'll use, but artillery. Holding gives us more time in that as well.

@BoneyM Ah, sorry for the confusion -- is it clan Huzkul or Hazkal? The information threadmark has the former, but the update has the latter (and I could swear that I've seen the latter floating around somewhere else).

This looks about right.

Re: Concerns about the Greenskins widening the West Gates: This is basically fine for us, I think. Our only constraint on firing The Eye (in First Line: Caldera, anyway) is whether or not the Greenskins are fully committed. If they stream in more quickly, I think we just fire more quickly.

If we didn't have Gyrocopters or if the Orcs didn't have so many snotlings, I'd be more in favor of withdrawing, but since we do and they have forces practically tailor made for throwing into traps, I don't think it would play to our strengths as well.

We probably should give Gotri the Eshin intel on the warboss though. Him knowing the guy is practically an AA battery seems important.

It's crazy to think we will probably be using the death tower in like a few updates. It's amazing how lucky we got with the construction timing.

There hasn't really been a split in the Karaz Ankor since the Coming of Chaos, has there? And that was over a little thing, like worshipping a demon god and becoming chaos dwarves? Or have there been some fuelled by even smaller offences?

Ok, so I don't want to get too much into the math as others have already mentioned most things, but if we are getting only about 20 orcs/s in a line in front of the citadel, can we just deal with that? We have thousands of archers and Artillery units, pretty sure we can deal with those numbers trivially until they realize they need to group up.

I am tempted to open up the Karagril reservoir and flood the caldera, we could Agincourt a sizeable portion of the Waaagh before the Eye comes into play.

We need to hold because if they enter the mountains it will become hellishly difficult to remove them. Pre-sight the artillery for best effect, collapse the entrances to the other mountains to prevent infiltration.
-[X] THIRD LINE: Eastern Valley
We cannot let them get in or else casualties will mount very high in the retaking.

If they can't get through the West Gate (right into our killzone) they'll come in through other ways and cause trouble.
