[X] Move and Reorient

I don't like the logic that combat votes can't be trap votes, therefore always pick the riskiest one. Taking a big hit here is just going to wreck our ability to fight back effectively, people are entirely too optimistic about how easy it'll be to shrug off a blow from a glass cannon.

[X] Defend and Counter

I prefer what Sixiang is doing in this plan, which I think everybody has been missing.

With the evasion plan, Ling Qi avoids the damage and stacks up personal perception with Sixiang's help, turning the fight into a race between her and the assassin, with her allies as tokens to be taken and guarded.

With this plan, Ling Qi takes a hit but spreads some defence to her allies in the area and Sixiang attempts to dispel the assassin's stacked stealth techs, which increases the chance of allies being able to strike or guard against the enemy. And she tries to hit the enemy too, I guess, but frankly that's not the most important thing going on. Though HR does apply a speed debuff iirc?

This attack 1-hit murdered another green officer. Do we really think such a powerful attack is easily repeatable? Do we really think he's so fragile that a single tag will cripple him?

Why do we think that Ling Qi will get the better of the exchange between the known 1-hit attack and her counter hit?

Also dodging lets Xiulan attack without friendly fire worries.

Ling Qi isn't going to stand still.

The point is that Ling Qi is deceptively tanky, and with TRU online, she's going to be nigh impossible to decisively put down by anything that we have any business fighting. As the update didn't end with Ling Qi's decapitation, we can logically determine that this guy's in our weight class.

A sustained fight is not in our favor, because most of us are nearly tapped out, so we want to take the choice that front loads as much of the fight as we possibly can. SCS leaves him entirely unharmed, and pitting his greatest strength against our tertiary traits while we're low on Qi.

Beyond that? It's not the "Single tag" that will get him. It's "Hitting him hard, poisoning him, and then locking down his position where Xiulan can throw a sun at him. If he's still alive at that point, he's going to be having second thoughts about this whole 'Sneak around and ninja' thing. And that presumes that Sixiang has to spend all their time dispelling us instead of dispelling his stealth buffs.

[X] Defend and Counter

Better we tank the hit and counter, Ling is a tough girl.

I kind of hope the Barbarian invasion isn't happening soon after this battle. I wanted some years to get our fief up and running before being drowned in savages. :V

I mean, the last guy who got murdered didn't get the chance to put up defensive techs. He was killed at his desk in his room and nobody noticed anything until they checked on him and he was dead.

You don't use the same kind of weapon for killing someone who is helpless as you do for fighting someone who is defending themself. To use a physical analogy: a straight razor will slit throats like nobody's business, but is useless against armor. I can easily imagine assassination-specialized arts that have massive bonuses against unaware/unprepared opponents and are hard for other people to notice on passive perception, as opposed to this guy just being able to throw out superpowerful attacks.

The known 1-hit attack could cripple Ling Qi even if it doesn't "decisively put [her] down".

We don't, in fact, know the assassin's greatest strength. We know exactly two things about the assassin: #1 they killed a green officer without any resistance and #2 Ling Qi cannot detect them without perception techs. They could be more focused on their initial strike being the perfect 1-hit assassination for officers drinking tea alone, or they could be more focused on great (re)stealth for battlefield assassinations like everyone is assuming. But we do not know.

[X] Move and Reorient

'only the last hit point matters' and 'whatever, we have plot armor' is the wrong way to go at this imo, because 'not dying' isnt 'safe from consequences' and I dont like the potential consequences of tanking a big attack with our throat.
Because M&R allows the assassin to do as he pleases I like the survival chances of, say Xiulan, when faced with the same attack even less...

Hmm. You know, being Han Fang'd for a while would be an interesting consequence of the vote. She manages to get off one last song as her throat is slashed, then she's impaired for the rest of the arc and maybe another turn.

Her Music isn't fully physical, so it would be a significant but not total impediment to her arts, while being an interesting platform for advancement. Both for music (Vocals anyone?) and for Dance. How does the mute songbird express herself, after all?

Also Han Fang is cool, we should be more like him.

A benefit of this that I don't think has been brought up: TRU makes us unable to be moved by enemy action. You know what enemy action would really suck right now? An assassin taking us as a hostage and running off with us to Barbarian territory. Let's avoid that.

[X] Defend and Counter

At need to put this thing down fast, we don't have time to play stealth/teleport cat and mouse

Also we're not the only people here, TRF should let us help the others here who are holding of the rest of the swarm

Whatever the result of this encounter, I feel that we're gonna need to comfort Zhengui a bit. This was his moment of triumph, where he finally proved how big and strong he was to Mother and she's gets shanked out of nowhere right after.

This is gonna be a kick to his budding confidence, if he isn't able to help catch this assassin next update. :(
