[X] Return

I don't think we have the time to investigate the assassin. He's going to be good enough to gank a green officer, which means it will take a significant investment of time to find him. In that significant amount of time, our territory is going to be in danger from whatever is happening in the South. We have an assigned area, we've dealt with the areas which requested support, it's time to go back to our assigned area and brace for impact.

There was something familiar. It was faint, even with all of her focus, she could only just barely sense the fading remnants. It could best be described as a film, like the skin that formed on curdled milk, a scent of rot and impurity that she had only caught thanks to her previous experience, and time spent in Li Suyin's workshop.
Also, I really liked how this additional plot element ties in the threat of the Barbarians with what we've experienced in the Corrupted Caverns. And it gives us a reason to go back with Li Suyin and others! Trying to figure out the connection between what exists down there with the Cloud Barbarians could be a really cool arc, and I think we've gotten the hook which makes it all the more likely.

We need more antagonists and playing detective sounds more fun than fighting a few spirits, even if it is with Xuilan and definitely the smart and responsible thing to do.

[X] Return

If it's really gnavling one's then we need special equipment tp investigate that we lack right now.

[X] Rescue

Still don't like leaving a man behind, but return do appear too align more with our insights. Can't decide.

"You've gotten even more scary," Shen Hu commented absently as she sank down toward the earth in front of him. His half closed eyelids fluttered, like a person in the midst of a dream.
Just wait, Shen Hu! We haven't even gotten to cultivating our Cai arts yet, or the arts gifted to us by our interaction with the Phases of the Moon. We have only begun our climb up the terrifying ladder!

"... My apologies, but I can spend no more time here."

The dinner bell just rang, and it's time for Qi to get the fuck home. We've personally countered the assaults on both villages, and while the second one is still without a direct leader, we can't afford to taxi this guy back. Some very high powered shit is going on right next door, and we need to be there for it.

Investigate feels obviously terrible, we don't have the luxury to gamble everything on a slim lead.

Yikes, glad we ended up going to this village or it would've been a massacre.

As far as the vote goes... Rescue has us making sure an up-to-date message actually spreads and the not insignificant benefit of having another 3d realm's personal gratitude, but with an assassin on the prowl, a possible 3d attack on our village after we left, and the 4th realm fight at the mountain breaking out already means making haste is potentially worth a lot.

And since pesumably we at least describe the location and point the current 2nd realm soldiers at the downed scout in either non-rescue option, I'll vote with:

Yeah, I'd love to have another Inner Disciple owe us one for another rescue, but I've been officially spooked by the fight south of our village.

This briefly got noir as hell, and I loved it. I want more detective Ling and her floating eyes sussing out crime scenes.

Also, for clarification's sake, but there's nothing specific to indicate that a 'tide of spirits' is going to smash into Zhengui and Xuilan. Just that things have gotten serious with all the recent developments.
