EC as in Elector Count.

The first thing that Mathilde did in the quest was explore the castle and get jumped by a Zombie created under the direction of the Von Carstein claimant. That same claimant was also responsible for the disappearing tax ledgers and the like.

From the very start of the quest there vampires trying to subvert the Elector Count; absolutely nothing suggests that they would rest on their laurels rather than try and take Stirland, since once the Von Carsteins were perceived to be out of they way all of them started acting more aggressively.
I didn't say otherwise. Just pointing something out.

Is voting closed yet? Forgot I hadn't actually voted so far

[X] Tower of Serenity - Perfect temperature, perfect level of background noise, perfect conditions to get those bloody papers written. Or for someone else to do it for you. It even has a rune to keep your drink warm. Every turn, writing or dictating 1 paper costs no actions. 300gc, 3 College favours, 1 Dwarf favour.

People wanting to go and kill that vampire: getting the extra revolver will make Mathilde considerably killier, as it ups her number of attacks by fifty percent.

It's an hour and fourty minutes till the vote closes, please, there's still time to switch to Revolver + Rifle (as just revolver has zero chance of winning).
Suddenly realized I never voted. OOPS.

Say @Redshirt Army might I inquire why you don't want to look into the Assassination attempts? Since I'd imagine knowing how our enemies gather information is useful, not to mention giving Rosi a buffer would help.

We can get a huge powerup by 125 gold with literally no downsides... but people don't want to be fifty percent deadlier for some reason?

It's the rifle that scared people off. I felt the same way when the romance novels got kiboshed. Just make another purchase plan next turn with just the revolver and no rifle and it'll work out.

[X] [PURCHASE] Rifle and a revolver.

I don't particularly care about the purchasing part of the vote, but buying more guns should be something of a no-brainer. If we're willing to shell out that much for books, why not pay less for the ability to just directly kill things better?

I am not overly fond of the rifle but yeah, sure, additional attacks are good stuff.

@Redshirt Army, I think that specifying in Johan's vote that he is there to generally scout clan Moulder instead of generic investigation (and possible poking) is better, since it can be lost in the thread that this is what the vote meant.

Basically, I'm hoping that Roswitta gets a buffer either way - none of the options are explicitly a "guard Roswitta" choice, after all, so it seems reasonable that a baseline level of protection is implicit to basically all of them.

I think the extra protection of Mathilde being on-site (in addition to the Hammerers and Gyrocopters) isn't that valuable, compared to leveraging the Coin to the fullest extent by scouting basically every city in Sylvania.

I mean considering that if Roswita dies thread interest in Stirland is likely to drop and would thus serve the direction of the quest I would prefer more, take that I'm arguing in good faith when I say I think you're completely wrong. The Necrarch is the only Vampire currently actively trying to kill her and therefore if your goal is to keep her alive then you should be focusing on that.

The thing is that I don't see the Anti-Assassination option as merely Mathilde and her entourage being on site, rather I see it was Mathilde investigating how all these assassination attempts are being orchestrated and either shutting them down or putting in place safety measures.

I think we need second revolver until we learn Shadow Knives and while I'm not entirely sold on rifle, I'm willing spend money on it since no one is buying only revolver.

For me, Stirland is gonna be a very much one and done deal with whacking Alkharad. We have a bunch of shit that needs doing down here in Dwarf Town.

You know, I think that Mathilde should take a flask of snake juice with her on this adventure, just as she did on her last. If the worst does happen, having some pure Aethyr to feed her soul on is much better than having to resort to drinking blood or the standard necrach approach of metabolising dhar. Then, well hopefully Mathilde has heard of Azorgaron and can manage a detour on the way back and kill him fast enough to cure the vampiric side effects before the physical transformation starts.

You can see why the Grey College might be reluctant to send a Magister up against a vampire when you consider how quickly a turned Grey Wizard would become a threat. A Lahmian or Necrach Mathilde would be a terror.

Huh. Given how mutually contradictory the various books of canon are, I'll take that as "something that Boney decided against being canon for this quest". Arguably, even if that is the case, Mathilde's service to Abelhelm could be taken as falling under Article 14. Really, that bit strikes me as the writers trying too hard at making the Grey College sneaky sneakers who sneak for the sake of sneakiness. :???:

In some ways, the Grey College similar to being the Fantasy version of Ordo Hereticus. They're an autonomous order of secret police responsible for rooting out chaos cults, and by extension vampire's servants as well. Helping Aberheim fight actual vampires and their agents is of course fine. I think the Stirland League, for example, was merely greedy though. As note, Realms of Sorcery is pretty much the book of lore on the Colleges. It's hard to contradict it, as there's simply not much other material out there in enough detail to do so.

It's possible that BoneyM did change this, or that Mathilde just broke the Grey Colleges rules. Or she could claim some form of plausible deniability because Aberheim's political opponents might have been vampire agents, although that's a really slippery slope.

Most vampires could not care less about a trading company, with only very few inclined to infiltration.

The Lahmians probably would, but they'd probably also do a very competent job, would gravitate towards middle management roles in Mathilde's information gathering network, and no one would ever know that a copy of every report that passed over their desk went to the Silver Pinnacle. Infiltration is what Lahmians do, and a compy majority owned by two women that's likely to be more open than normal to female travelling merchants and clerks is an ideal spot for them.

I just realized that we haven't talked to Julia in years and Lahmian are running around...

I mean her boss is a witch hunter, but...

They're dwarves. Drinking the local ale and grumbling about how it's not up to scratch.

Non-Von Carstein's generally don't care about openly ruling
