I agree on all counts - the Burning Vengeance is a waste of Favour, and this is exactly the sort of turn to give our Protector Coin a spin!

Unrelated, I've just noticed this detail:

I think we might just be Belegar's most trusted advisor, and isn't that a hell of a thing?

I think that Prowler is a better fit than Protector.
At least so that we can test/check out whether it works on Greenskin habitat in the mountain. We want to know its limits after all.

@BoneyM do we know if Roswita trusts enchanted items made by imperial magisters?
She's got magic phobia. She'll be afraid of it. But she'll also deal with anything we give her for the good of Stirland.
How would you feel about using Protector instead? Because of how much pro-active defending we'd be doing, by intervening in Karagril and Sylvania?

EDIT:

That's also really tempting to do... Increasing stealth ability or pluses to rolls is one thing. But being able to make our sabotage and chaos-spreading efforts even more devastating? To, in a word, increase the tactical tools in Mathilde's arsenal? That's very tempting and useable.
I think the thread mostly agreed to swap over to Protector during the battle itself, which it was confirmed we could do as long as we stuck with it the turn after the battle. That'll be our time for fame, after we've spent months setting up a situation where we can capitalize on it all.

[ ] Karagril: Carefully map as much of the mountain as you can.

The most basic scouting action, that all others build upon.

I want to throw my hat in to argue for Mapping Karagril. Thanks to MAP, if we can gather highly detailed information about the force dispositions, structure and any other nasty surprises waiting for us when we assault Karagil, taking such an action would not only help the Rangers in their own missions but also provide vital strategic data for the Council in planning the assault on Karagril. I think that this action has a greater long term impact than assassinating the leadership (nice to have, but the Greenskins would likely restore much of their leadership losses within the six months), and would allow Mathilde to be far more effective at deciding which enemy infrastructure to best sabotage, as opposed to simply taking targets of opportunity.

In my opinion, taking this option:

-[ ] Karagril: Carefully map as much of the mountain as you can.

Should be our priority this turn, with regards to Karagril. Remember, Mathilde cannot do everything alone, so, mapping is the one action that can help her fellow Councillors do their jobs better, which Mathilde is best placed to undertake.

As for my actual vote in this mid-turn action:

I think that during the battle Gambler would be amazing though.

For the second stage of the vote, I'd like to put an early point in towards long-term planning with the EIC spy network, specifically:
[ ] Start hiring handlers who can then start hiring informers and begin to collect non-public information.

That's going to take a while to pay off at all, so getting it going early, and doing things like the Internal Affairs a little later seems sensible to me.

The only one of the options I outright oppose is the Auditors Division. That's Wilhemina's area of expertise, she can handle it - we don't need to make sure all the profits are right.

I personally don't really want to mess with Dhar I just added it for the sake of completeness regarding our mindset when using Ulgu as tongs. I'm mainly interested in the manipulations of other winds of magic using Ulgu and hopefully it doesn't only work with Dhar! I don't think (And I could be totally wrong) that all the winds repel each other, I only think certain pairs do like Hysh and Ulgu, and Shyish and Ghyran. And even then as SuperSonicSound pointed out, we might be able to manipulate those winds by interacting with them like a magnetic South and North pole interaction. Or it'd be impossible to work with our polar opposite wind. I'm quite keen to find our though, but I get where you're coming from in that it might be quite unsafe for our surrounds. Hopefully our Oh Dear tower will help alleviate some of those

With your assumptions you may as well manipulate the second wind directly.

Throwing in Ulgu just adds Dhar (2 winds) and Miscast chance (using tongs is harder and more imprecise then just hands)

Unrelated you missed other possibilities for interactions. The interaction between winds might be far more complicated then magnets. It might not even be possible to cover the full range of second winds options with Ulgu. Example, no matter how much Ulgu and where you apply it, the second wind won't perfectly rotate 90 degrees. Maybe the tong method affects other winds that we just ignore. Could be that poking one spot of second wind requires the Ulgu pokes 3 spots.

In case anyone can tell I'm studying for my Matricies midterm rn.

What cities are we going to be sneaking around in again?

Also sabotage is not our job. Dealing with magic shit is. And Belegar gave us our orders. I would like to respect them. Especially since he was such a bro about us helping Sylvania.

Yep. I won't vote for any plan that doesn't have this action, period.

Considering the number of threats wouldn't it be better to postpone all training and research till after this turn?

Sure it does hurt a bit but there's nothing really urgent there anyways.

Going all in on Karagil and Sylvania would allow for maximum benefit from using Protector.

[X] Tower of Oh Dear - with a series of very prominent buttons easily accessible from anywhere in the room, be able to drain all magical energies in three heartbeats. Near-complete immunity to miscasts and any other conceivable magical threat. 200gc, 3 College favours, 3 Dwarf favours.

The point is to set everything up for months so that it'll be as safe as possible for us to go double or nothing. Storming Kharagril is a fountain of dwarf favor, and we know that we'll get a whole lot more if more than the few dwarves on the council are aware of what we actually did during it.

Plus, there's a certain desire for variety; I want to see what it actually does to people, for one, and during the battle and the turn afterwards are going to be excellent opportunities for that.

My tentative wants for turn plan: I'm generally in agreement with the arguments that karagril being ~6 months away means we shouldn't count on assassination or sabotage fully lasting until the campaign. Additionally, information is the most important, and the more chaotic we make things, the less reliable that information is able to be; If we go around assassinating warbosses, we're rolling the dice on the new ones being worse and making any intelligence reports from either us or the rangers less accurate, because things will be more prone to change. So imo, stick to just the mapping option for karagril. Greatsword learning is an obvious pick, getting some practice in with our new fancy sword both before the big campaign and before any fights this turn. Starting up wizard club (or another org, but i prefer wizard club) is likewise essential, to avoid having the half-action round up cost us next turn. Other than that i'd like to focus on sylvania. going back to undead in sylvania will be nostalgic, i feel, as well as interesting--all of Boney's war posts are cool, but this way we get some vampire fights in different areas before going in for another interlude of underground greenskins and maybe skaven. Also i strongly support the interpretation that mathilde would want to protect Abelheim's legacies--both his familial legacy and his hoped-for legacy of cleaning up sylvania. This helps with both, and roswita needs all the help she can get. Torn between night prowler and protector, but atm i am more interested in efficiency than in ensuring that stirland knows who it has to thank. As for the we, i agree with whoever it was that said that the We will mostly be interacting with dwarves and so its most important to get them started off with a dwarf teacher, so:

Max: Really not sure here... Autopsies probably?
Johann: Torn between letting him investigate the clan under karagril, or helping with sylvania
EIC: [ ] Have those supplying the Stirland Army keep you informed of events in the Sylvanian Campaign.
Coin: [ ] The Night Prowler
Penthouse: [ ] Have additional rooms excavated underneath your Penthouse: -50gc for 2 rooms.
Free: [ ] Hire an open-minded Loremaster from a Young Hold to teach the We. [does not cost an action or your money]

Mathilde: (5)
- [ ] Establish a weekly meeting for the various Journeymanlings and Ducklings that you've accumulated, so you can keep tabs on what they're up to and assist and intervene as necessary.
- [ ] Ask an acquaintance to train you in a skill: specify who and what. (Greatswords with gunnars again)
- [ ] Karagril: Carefully map as much of the mountain as you can.
- [ ] Sylvania: Investigate the attempts on Roswita's life, and see if you can determine the mechanisms, spells, and controls that make it possible.
- [ ] Sylvania: Investigate Alkharad for yourself, and if a good opportunity arises, take it.

I've made a plan. I'm rather convinced by the benefit of the Protector Coin, and really, we need to use it sometime if only to get an idea of how strong it is.
[] Plan Protector
-[] [COIN] Protector
-[] [MAX] Allow him to spend all his time on his metalworking studies.
-[] [JOHANN] Allow Johann to spend all his time investigating the Skaven
--[] Clan Moulder
-[] [EIC] Put policies in place that local news should be collected and sent to you (rumour mill).
-[] Establish a weekly meeting for the various Journeymanlings and Ducklings that you've accumulated, so you can keep tabs on what they're up to and assist and intervene as necessary.
-[] Hire an open-minded Loremaster from a Young Hold to teach the We. [does not cost an action or your money]
-[] Karagril: Carefully map as much of the mountain as you can.
-[] Sylvania: Investigate Alkharad for yourself, and if a good opportunity arises, take it.
-[] Attempt to interest one of the currently present Runesmiths in the interaction between Runes and Vitae. (Will start at the top and work your way down)
-[] Ask an acquaintance to train you in a skill: specify who and what.
--[] Gunnar, Greatsword Practice
-[] [SERENITY] Have Max write a paper on:
--[] Collate the information that the Army of Stirland collected during the Purge.
-[] Have a tower built atop Karag Nar: -100gc for 1 room, bonus to room's purpose.

I considered picking assassination for Karagil, but it's not quite as important as scouting, and we can certainly have a go at killing some Warbosses when the assault properly begins anyway - it worked fine before. I really wanted to include learning spells to tip us over into Magic 8, but the only thing I could really have removed was showing off the Aethyric Vitae to the Runesmiths, and we're about to enter a war turn...
Really feeling the action crunch here.

Do you want that as a single enchantment or as a banner? Because a banner with that sounds really good for her Greatswords, the poor bastards.
(I assume banners would be more expensive, given that they affect more people at once? Though I don't know by how much, the info just said to ask Boney outright for something like that)

Edit: @BoneyM, how much for a banner of Ward Against Abomination? Moderately Complicated, which costs 3 Favor for a single item in your info page.
Ward Against Abomination: Undead cannot approach you. Intelligent or especially powerful undead can resist the effect

[X] [ENCHANTMENT] Ward Against Abomination for Roswita

@Mr Apollo could I persuade you to change your enchantment vote to this version -some people might want such a ward for us, and don't want BoneyM having to work out which was intended if it happens to win.

I think that if we don't use Night Prowler on a turn where we spend 3/5 actions on scouting in places that are to varying degrees cities, we'll never use it.

And I think that success is more important than publicity.
She's got magic phobia. She'll be afraid of it. But she'll also deal with anything we give her for the good of Stirland.

What about BungieOni's suggestion of using Deceiver to wreak maximum chaos and havoc in our infiltration efforts -- perhaps followed by Protector afterwards, so the war and post-war turn will have lots of Protectoring?

Though we could also go Deceiver->Night Prowler... set up lots of lies in the 6 months, and then during the war turn, use the Night Prowler to more easily be able to infiltrate the places ahead of the army... ... Prowler would be really neat for any time we need to go into an enemy city or camp. Gah. Even if Protector would get us fame and urban legend from it.

Greenskin settlements count as cities, and there's a ton of cities in Sylvania.

It explicitly is. Belegar asked us to "do our magic", and sabotage is in the "assigned task" section of actions.
Seems to be the story of all our foes. Knock one over, two takes their place." He scratches his beard in thought. "I'd not say no to you working your magic, literal and otherwise, in Karagril. But if you think you can make a difference in Sylvania, take a squad of Hammerers and a flight of gyrocopters. Wave the banner and all that, show off your new sword. Probably won't make a difference in time for Karagril, but there'll be plenty more battles after that and we can use all the help we can get.
Mathilde, see to the education, whatever method you think best.
I'm just going to point out his explicit orders were to get the WE educated.

Throwing somebody else at the problem, and only one other person at the job seems... Insulting? Like almost deliberately snubbing his words.
