I'm gonna wait and see if there are any contenders posted before I vote for "All the options" plan.

FYI everyone is voting in a manner such that the tally will not be able to distinguish between the art subvote plans.

Get to fixing

"Indeed, proud as I am of my work, without Master's touch it will still be some decades yet," Lin Hai said agreeably, stepping away. Let us away to my boutique then, and we can begin laying out your options."

@yrsillar Editing note: I've noticed fairly consistently that when you have a split dialogue like that that you'll miss the opening quotation marks on the second section. This is one example, but there's one every chapter or two going back the last few chaps

I still establish that setting the foundations for a solid social package now is our best move. MoSS is not something we need urgently as we've only once seen a situation where our current abilities were not up to the task--and it was a very extreme one and even then we nearly nailed it. It'll be great later, absolutely, but I don't think we have an urgent need to get it now when we have a glaring weakness we still need to close.

PMR and MSS is the foundation of a comprehensive social package--an all out offense/conditional defense art to push our agenda across, and a team player/defense art to prevent our own agenda from being undermined. HDW 5 when we train it will serve as a decent stopgap for MSS until it develops its own screen art, but we want to master HDW anyway due to its incredible domain-bait potential, which will let us pivot to MSS when MSS's full potential begins to come online.

Plus, it will amuse me for us to make this Ling Qi a fully armed and operational politicstation before anyone can fully adapt to handle it.

While we interact with spirits far less often than we do with other people, the results of our interactions with spirits have generally been far greater. For example, even if we were socially perfect during the Luo gathering, the benefits would have been significantly less than those we obtained when we met Zeqing or Zhengui's dad. Our other spirit encounters admittedly had smaller rewards, but it's hard to deny that our encounters with spirits have generally had greater potential benefits than our interactions with other people.

And Ling Qi is fine dealing with spirits now though, it's not a magic wand that we wave and then she achieves great power.
This reasoning applies to the other social arts too. PMR or MSS are not magic wands either. Perhaps less so, given that Melodies is scarily well suited to Ling Qi. Plus we'll have a human social art anyway.

Actually, I'm also going to go ahead and call BS on Ling Qi's social skills being garbage that must have all the effort immediately. By the same standard as you use on spirit ken, "major arc problems ending badly" Ling Qi's cultivator social is going even better. By the standard applied to cultivator social, there are also plenty of times things could've gone better with spirits. Now, it's true she didn't do amazing at the party back in arc 4--that's one reason people agreed to train her social stats and skills. Which has happened. This is a quest with literal grades we can take a look at. Empathy and speech are both C-rank now--AKA needs a literal insight to advance further, and caught up to spirit ken.

maybe a little help with the art names:

CDE = Curious Diviners Eye [our current perception art]
RME = Roaming Moon's Eye [ a CDE successor with Clairvoyance theme]
CDP = Curious Diviner's Poise [a CDE successor with Precognition theme]

MSI = Moon Sprite's Inquiry [ the chatterbox social art]
PMR = Moon Sprite's Inquiry [the muse+honesty social art]
MSS = Moonless Saboteur's Smile [the plot+scheme social art]
MoSS = Melodies of the Spirit Seekers [the spirit+music social art]

CDP has phasing scouts and can ignore C rank attack skill, at the price of (RME's) long range scouting and (imo) useless three target scrying (CDP instead has single target scrying). Also better combat perception and initiative passives.

MoSS is imo mandatory, as interaction with spirits is a pretty big thing for Ling Qi.
One thing i really like about MSS is how it helps protect our allies. Both the tech and the passive.

What are the major differences between the two versions of CDE+?
CDP unlock minor Precog and prioritizes CDE as a combat-centric art with mild out of combat utility

RME increases the speed and range of the wisps to Far and B speed, as well as allowing us to clairvoyant 3 targets instead of 1 at a time. This combines well with Wind Thief's ability to SableStep anywhere in Far range, as well as WindThief's ability to allow us to phase through physical barriers so long as we have vision of where we want to arrive. It's an incredibly powerful combination for mobility, intelligence and stealth operations, even though it is less combat oriented.

PMR is the direction of sincerity and honest social interaction, and MSS helps us with social as well. With the Fade hole in our build on the mend the other hole is our social suite, and that's explicitly noted in the story by everyone around us. Let's patch that hole now, focus on spirit-ken later and specialize once we're solid at everything.

oh also Cap Empathy Please, that's very important and good in my opinion <3
