Hasn't higher rolls been good most of the quest? Is that a specific difference, or was the required number just that high?
Belegar just mouthed off the High King and poured dirt all over his entire national doctrine for both pragmatic and ideological reasons, more or less. Publically.

And not only did Belegar get away with doing that without anything worse than being told "Fine. Prove yourselves right." said High King gave him the supplies, expertise, and starting infrastructure to set up Belegar's own Gyrobomber Corps, which is a huge gain for everything a helicopter would be useful for, which is damn near everything in this situation.

I mean, yes, but he also did it after being spectacularly successful. Which usually merits some slack. Certainly you wouldn't expect 'now never ever come back' to be the good result.

I imagine that it's more "Come back when you've won doing it your way then." rather than "Don't ever come back."

Belegar basically threw down the political gauntlet, saying that the platform that Thogrim ran on is wrong and that there is still yet hope for the Dawi.

Thogrim can't leave that unanswered, and unless we got a Nat100 I imagine the separation was going to happen no matter what.

But Thogrim still wants to believe in hope. His own hope has shriveled, and now instead of seeking to Reclaim the glory of ages past, Thogrim seeks to make sure the Dawi leave the world as best as they can before they die to the last.

Belegar isn't a party to that plan, not anymore at least, so Thogrim made a choice. He gave Belegar one last show of support, one last set of knowledge and power that a King worth the title should have, and told him "Prove me wrong then."

A lower roll wouldn't have given that last gift, and an even lower roll would have likely initiated a deep and proper Old Hold/New Hold split. But you'll notice that only the Old Hold Capital is barred from us.

Politics are being played, but the High King has decided to leave this as a matter of Capitals rather than splitting the Dwarven Race in half. We can still get further help from other Old Holds, and I imagine that Belegar is going to leverage that for every ounce of strength he can gain.

Aside from all that.

Great googly moogly!

14,000 Gold Crowns!

Let's say 10% of that removed, 5% to the College, 5% to make a good and proper Ranald shrine, so 12,600.

Our debt to Stirland for the loan is roughly 1,300 right now, so 11,300.

That's more than Matty has ever had in her entire life.

I don't even know what to do with it all.

For everyone worring about the Debt to Stirland/EIC, we have 14 000 gp. Read that. Fourteen thousand. The vote decides where three quarters will be spent. The final quarter is still about 3500 gp. It should cover the debt, or at least massivly reduce it. Let's reinvest the majority into our new home, eh?

[X] This is Dawongr Weber's money. The funds will largely go projects within the Karaz Ankor - your tower for one, but also investing in the Undumgi or Ulrikadrin, or purchasing goods made by Dwarven artisans or sold in the markets of Barak Varr.
You know what would be great? Another niter factory for the new settlement, sometimes down the road. Dwarves always want more gunpowder.

[X] Karag Nar penthouse
I like this because it lets us spot trouble from a mile away, and watch everyone with our magic telescopes. It let's us keep up the Grey Wizard "I know everything" shtick, and that matters.
[X] Karag Lhune secondary peak
This one is also nice, since it's central and has a lot of room. All that storage room might come in handy for later.

I'd rather not go the Citadel route. Let's not experiment near the enemy, ok?

[X] Claim the site where Ranald mugged Mork and build a shrine to Ranald there.
This is a must. Even if no one else knows, or will claim it, this is going to happen. It's just a matter of if we want this up now, or later. I'd rather do sooner, especially since we already set up space for the other gods.

[X] Scout the rest of the Eight Peaks, to find out what other horrors are waiting out there.
I'd like this one picked at least once. Let Mat have an eye on what may be hanging around her home. To prevent nasty surprises.

[X] Write a series of papers on the magical phenomena you witnessed. Or better yet, get your Journeymanlings to do the actual writing.
We've been warned some might be taking off soon. I would like at least one action with the other wizards. This one seems best.

@BoneyM If the amber folks head out, could we just trade/give the eggs to the Amber Order?

[X] King Belegar is allowing you to use the King's Armoury. Recover your extant study materials from Stirland and tuck them away safely in there.
Research! Also if we plan to do it, we should get our stuff over here.

@BoneyM Also, can we visit our friends while going for our stuff? Not in a let's go settle over there, but in a "Seeing friends" kind of thing? Like, can we visit them for character reasons, not future plans reasons, if that makes sense?

I'd vote for the friends thing, if it was about organising acutally visiting friends, EIC interests towards K8P and maybe poaching some people from the Watch for the Roadwardens. We do need someone to train mercs how to do police work. But I don't want to signal "Staying in Stirland" when I just want to see our friends. Maybe talk to that priest of Ranald. See how it felt from his side.

Guys. Guys please. Please don't build our wizard tower in the fucking Bottomless Abyss, it'll look real cool but no one is ever going to come visit.

There are like 3 different tower locations with real, actual strategic value, don't just vote because digging down deeper than any dwarf sounds cool. That didn't work out super well for Moria.

You guys want a Balrog? That's how you get Balrogs.
I mean, I hadn't even considered it before, but now that you mention it...

[X] The Grand Abyss
The Balrog is Shadow and Flame! We control the shadows and are immune to fire! THIS IS THE BEST OUTCOME WE CAN WISH FOR!

Also to keep my old votes in in case I forget to update.

Buy exotic shit from Karak Varr, Build the most pimping wizard tower imaginable, help out our little fiefdom in Stirland a bit.

Expand our library a whole bunch.

Try to acquire more books of Nagash for completely non-sinister reason's.

Fund an an expedition to lustria To become a Slann's Shoulder loli.

This suggests a future of investigation and study at Karak Eight Peaks, and perhaps helping Johann poke at Skaven technology.

@BoneyM If the amber folks head out, could we just trade/give the eggs to the Amber Order?

Yeah, that will be a valid way to offload the eggs if you don't decide to bring Esbern and Seija on board.

@BoneyM Also, can we visit our friends while going for our stuff? Not in a let's go settle over there, but in a "Seeing friends" kind of thing? Like, can we visit them for character reasons, not future plans reasons, if that makes sense?

You'll be able to visit in passing but it'll be less time spent with them than if the dedicated visit option is chosen.

So, is Mathilde now number 1 in dwarf rep when it comes to the Empire?

Yes. Probably in all of living humans outside of Tobaro.

Alright, so in light of the fact that we have at least one more round of picks, I'm changing my vote.

[X] This is Dawongr Weber's money. The funds will largely go projects within the Karaz Ankor - your tower for one, but also investing in the Undumgi or Ulrikadrin, or purchasing goods made by Dwarven artisans or sold in the markets of Barak Varr.

[X] Convince Esbern and Seija to stay long enough to deal with the spiders in the Chiselwards.

[X] Write a series of papers on the magical phenomena you witnessed. Or better yet, get your Journeymanlings to do the actual writing.

[X] King Belegar is allowing you to use the King's Armoury. Recover your extant study materials from Stirland and tuck them away safely in there.
So, I see all three of these as time-sensitive. Creating a shine to Ranald let's us further shape the culture of the undumgi, we don't want the memories that the Papers option relies on to fade any further, and getting Esbern and Seija to stay a bit both synergises with papers and clears away another bit of the research backlog.

The snek juice can keep, and although I'm a little nervous at putting off getting to know Royalty, they'll probably understand "we were super busy."

edit: decided I don't care about the eggs.

Can we use our connections with our new dwarf friends and our friends in the EIC to make some money?
Hmm... wasn't their an idea back a while ago to make a canal to connect the Black water through the mountains? It would create a water based route all the way to Barak Var and therefore us if we could pull it off. We have the Dwarf reputation and favor to get the expertise and the EIC has the Empire merchant connections. The main problem I could see would be getting Empire political support when RsVH still hates us but we have some friends still serving in her council who might be willing to talk her into it. Then again maybe if Stirland won't do Averland will or whatever.

Just spitballing but it is a good idea in my mind unless I missed something.

Hahah, they got air survailence and air support now b!tches!

I can somewhat understand Belegar's gambit and its a shame for Mathilda to not be able to spend the favours in the dwarven capital.

No matter, we're not in this for the short term, we're a gabling woman and our bet is on Belegar and his dwarven renaissance.

Excelent, having things a bit neutralized for action beyond our control makes this realistic.

This is dwarf rep, not College rep. Unless you are saying that some of their rep gains should be overflowing to us, as their commander.
Compare this to a hypothetical expedition where we did all that we did but let dwarfs sort out what to do with magic users themselves. That's certainly a lesser contribution to a campaign and a huge headache for Belegar who has no idea how to use wizards. So I think that this work should have been appreciated.

I'm not so sure about the Karag Nar penthouse, since while it does give us an amazing view, vision goes both ways. The entirety of the grand stairway of Karag Nar will have eyes on our door, and everywhere we can see through the windows can also look in towards us.

For a grey magister looking for a place to catch up on her pending research, some privacy might be nice.

Can't we just cloak the outside in shadows, or at least figure out how to?
