The cost/effect ratio was judged too low to be worth it. If your crew is being tacked one by someone with an AMF, you probably lost the battle already. Plus unlike magic a poison mechanism could be triggered by an enemy on mass much more easily which would be a hell of a weakness.
I love how you respond with: "...Aaaactually... yeah they're stupid but not for the reasons you're thinking... because they did think of this."

It's like what the fuck! I know their leader is a paranoid madman, but they're total clowns in every way!

I don't want to leave until we can see about getting what the Efreeti were after in Valyria.
And we pointedly haven't quite finished our task here until we got the puppeteered body - if soul could be called back with it, then we have to grab it.
Out awesome (potential) book could be in danger! :o

...Also, a CR 20 enemy left to wander, that will fuck up someone's day.

The courtmage could arrive any minute.
Seriously, in cases like this I always consider what Viserys would do, and I'm quite sure he would be here with a few companions in less than a quarter hour from getting the message.
You're not going to be able to keep a Gate open long enough to move an appreciable number of people through @Artemis1992. Our other Gate related shenanigans are pretty much contingent on Demiplanes.
Then how would you get away as fast as possible.
[X] Use the gem containing the soul of Efreeti Sorcerer and the curse-staff of Yss to divine the location of the body - and capture it, it may yet be used to great effect agaisnt Efreeti with the fleshforge you now have.
-[X] After that, use miracles to free as many of the remaining crew as you can

One does not leave a loose end unattended.

I want to loot the fuck to the very end.
Maybe he'll even be amenable to working with us, who knows...
The curse-staff takes and hour to work.
THat's not doable in a reasonable timeframe.

So turn the soul into a book or throw the stone in Yss maw.
As long as we do something with it fast enough that won't become a big problem.

I don't think the puppeteered body qualify as CR20, I'm unsure if it has access to all the body's innate abilities(things such as the wish SLA might be more tied to the soul) and while it probably has the HD from the class levels, the Familiar shouldn't have access to the spell casting, the BAB, the Skill points, or the non-body enhancing feats from those class levels, so all in all, I'm guessing the Familiar at most qualify as CR15 in that body.

I also doubt the Familiar is voluntarily going to the Efreeti, even in the best case for it, it would have to hand the body back to its master, do you really think it's loyal enough, to give up being a CR12-15 independent being, in favor of once again being its masters servant/slave?

It feels horrible to leave that body running around >_<

Granted, it's in Valyria...
But it's still on our fucking plane.

A CR 20 threat.
An idiotic one, maybe, but still.

Losing loot I'm okay with - we weren't in for it anyway - but it itself being around is another reason for me to worry, and frankly um fucking tired of that.

@DragonParadox
Did Taena prepare the Shadow Tower for our looting, leaving it mostly empty today?

[X] Use miracles to free as many of the remaining crew as you can
-[X]Use the Shadow Tower to get the crew out, then Teleport the ships home
--[X] Immediatly turn the Apprentice into a Book, if still possible after spending those spellslots, to prevent anyone from calling his soul back to his body.
-[X] Take an inventory of the loot before deciding how to repay the Genie's help
-[X] If interrogation of the crew reveals what they were searching and that it was reasonably near, loot that from Valyria too.

Why do you think it's CR20? The mage was CR20, do you really think a random being possessing his body, will be as strong as he was?

Remember it had to use a scroll to escape, if it had access to its masters spellcasting, do you really think it would have needed a scroll to escape?

I'm just mad it succeeded in the ad hoc ritual. I was looking forward to the Efreeti Mage's corpse and its loot. We could have put that Ring of Mind Blank to good use. :(

I don't think anything, even a god, can call a Soul Trapped soul back.

@DragonParadox, how quickly can we find out what the Efreeti's goal was in Valyria, where the loot they were after is located, and how long it would take to get it? Because I really want it.

I'm not betting on that.

Lesser spells of the same kind, like the one that creates a soulgem, can be beaten with a caster-check.
This one propably can't be beaten by regular spells, but a big ritual or a Quasi-Divine intervention from the Sultan might work, especially if they have the body as focus.
We can do some pretty impossible things with a body, the Curse Staff and our magic.

Well the fastest way to do it would be to interrogate the soul you have bound, the problem is you can't read it's mind as it is, so that leaves interrogating the remaining officers of their skulls. How long that would take Viserys can't really guess, though if nothing else it would be much faster to interrogate the living than the dead.

Could you add us looking for the puppeteered body with Divination/Yss staff after we finish with the crew and the ships?
That Mind Blank Ring is indeed a grand prize, one we can't quite afford to pass up :/

It is unlikely a CR 2 familiar in the body of a CR 20 mage would be itself CR 20. Viserys would estimate Cr 10-12 (not in those terms of course but it comes out the same thing).
That makes it considerably less problematic... but I'm not okay with it still.
Case in point, I have the following slated for next month's MAs:
[] Use Discern Location, Greater Scrying, and Greater Teleport to find and exterminate the Wisps that wronged you so long ago n swamps of Braavos
I don't take well to existing threats, not those wronging us :/

Wait, this guy refused to become a test subject for experimental flesh-grafting and you think that's suspicious? You would probably have grafted him demon flesh, and he knew it!
...
Actually, that sounded surprisingly sane for a Planetosi. Clearly he's an extradimensional ROB-insert and needs to be hunted down and experimented on.
He was probably the high cultist of Beelzebub, of course nothing would scare him more than to take that which is denied to his master.

Either the body is so far away(or so well protected) that no one should go after it, or it's open enough that Dany, Richard and Lya can deal with it. We can stay here and free slaves while cataloging loot while they handle the rest. Additionally, the efreeti are spiteful bastards, how much do you guys want to bet they gave the slaves "take them down with you" style orders in the case of a loss? Putting all the ships on the line for one body doesn't seem like a good idea.

[X]Use miracles to free as many of the remaining crew as you can
-[X] wild arcana Mages Decree to attempt to direct survivors to the deck of the ship where we can work out what to do with them.
-[X] While Viserys does this, Dany and Lya look for the body. If they find it, they can decide if it's a manageable risk given the support available. Should Viserys finish before they do, he joins the hunt.

Can we turn it into a book on the spot?
