That's... valid. Secondary education is not free, but there's a reason for that. The Imperial Military Academy teaches a variety of careers, but some of them have occupational hazards and they do require a five year term of service. In exchange the state heavily subsidizes their education to the point where it isn't just free, but they are actually earning money from it.

The impetus behind it is to direct draw the poor but talented into our hungry military machine, in exchange the State looks out for them.

And the university isn't ruinously expensive, as posited by the fact that a thrifty but somewhat wealthy share cropper slash lifestock herder can afford to put together the gold and silver to send his niece there.

Of course the guy is wealthy by farmer standards so that's basically his life's savings. Anyone else who has the inclination to get secondary education can easily afford that amount.

I don't think it needs to be said, but the Djinn took a look during an economic council and has heavily encouraged non-predatory loans to people in that lower-income bracket range who can afford to pay a loan off in the first place and actually have cause to take one, which the Shaitan largely agreed with, and the Braavosi thirded based on the fact that you don't shoot the goose that lays golden eggs.

I get the philosophy I just disagree entirely with it, the military in this time, particularly our military, is glorious and like any other part of our realm will only benefit from a more educated and productive civilian population.

I see this as a crutch we do not need for recruitment.

Look at something like NASA, no direct military applications yet GPS is basically necessary to fight a modern war.

Investment into academically inclined industries returns multi-fold, NASA is again a fantastic example of this.

We can address that after our current needs have been met, in say a year. At that point we will not have to worry about military brain-drain to the private sector for at least half a decade.

Not ideal but acceptable, we are still technically fledgling.

While I don't believe it will be an issue at all I suppose it is worth ensuring it not be the case, I've been wrong before after all.

The is probably the most legal heavy quest I have ever read. And why are we doing all this legal drafting ourselves and not have a crack team of adjudicators doing the nuances?
Because we're basically the number 2 greatest lawyer in Planetos, save perhaps for Malarys.

EDIT: Malarys have a base bonus of +21 while Viserys is +19, that's without other skill boosts in play.

Excellent. Now then...

...what item shall be presented to the board of directors next?

That's nothing, next level we're going to be qualitatively better than even some of the best legislators in the Planes, with none save those found south of Avernus, so to speak, having anything substantial on us.

Oh? How so? We're going to dump some more skill points into it next level up? Because I'm not counting library bonus and things that are available to everyone in the Imperium.

Indeed we are. Enough to automatically pass the general "high hard" DC of most possible skill checks, with possibly only super obscure and convoluted/draconian legal code being even somewhat opaque to us at that point, and only the most ridiculous cases being more than a lazy afternoon of idle judgement for us.

Don't forget to vote, yall.

Talking to the regulars and the lurkers who only come out once in a blue moon.

It might be time to start piling some nice +5 Competence bonuses to select Knowledge skills onto Viserys' gear.

Hypercompetence is an ongoing process, after all, not just a state of being.

Speaking of gear, has DP decided on a price for Rings of Sustenance for Balerion and the other Valyrian Dragons?

Nope. I'm still calculating them at 2500 each for now on the crafting spreadsheet, ten times the regular price.
That seems fair to me. It's going to save us quite a bit of money in the long run.

By the way, with more rangers, I hope we're making good use of our dinosaurs. Especially the Ankylosaurus. Imagine that as the Legion's personal battering ram.

EDIT: I'm still waiting for Soft Strider to train the Allosaurus we got for her.

Imagine our Minotaur Fighters in fullplate armor riding Ankylosauruses wearing heavy spiked barding, all buffed by a Magic Army spell along with a full suite of low level AoE buffs, charging through an army of mounted knights.

That idea deserves its own Power Metal song...

I was thinking Triceratops for them. Ankylosaurus is great for a standalone tank, but the 3.5 version of Triceratops have Trample which is fantastic for a charge.
