Well, while it is sad to see another light dimmed it was kinda an inevitability with the action.

Yrael was moving forward through purposeful ignorance, hoping beyond all hope that Heaven still existed in some form; that the world he knew still lived on, preserved in some fashion. He was able to tolerate the acts of Viserys by knowing that there existed a better place for all above. That hope is dead now.

While I hope Viserys won't end up going the same path as Asmodeous (although honestly at this point I can't tell), Yrael accepting that he has to work with what he has, that he might have to do terrible, unspeakable acts in order to try and preserve what he hopes will be some sort of good...It's a tragic thing to see, but worthy of a fall if nothing else.

Terrible unspeakable acts would be going a bit far for where Yrael is at the moment. He has acknowledged that one might have to do some evil to preserve what is good.

I hate to say it guys, but this place has likely already been looted down to the bedrock. There probably isnt going to be much if anything left of worth to find.

@Crake
Can you ask what happened to the souls of the lawful good that died? And where the survivors went?

edit:
I feel like I shouldn't ask, but we can just take some time? IC?

To not be a machine. To just take in what we just learned. About the universe? Ourselves?

Sure, but he has already made the first step.

This line, although spoken by a zealot, could be just as damning to Yrael I feel:
""We all were blind. We wanted to be blind. I still recall Damerrich speaking about the damnation brought in tiny steps and how the wicked walked it without knowing their destination.""

Although we hope that Viserys will not become Asmodeous 2.0 (or at least I do) and that Yrael will never have to do those acts, the first step towards them has been made. By accepting that evil can be done to preserve good, he has left himself open to acts of greater evil in the name to preserve good.

I'm not at all trying to say that is inevitable, nor that it will happen in this story (I would hope someone would be able to snap him out of that). Only that it has become a possibility.

So, it may be a good moment to call that one Deva we freed in that one weird town?

As with all things, extremes are possible and bad.

I think we have a, shall we say decent track record of keeping the Extremes down? :V

@DragonParadox AW MAN MY CHARACTER SHEET!

Naw don't worry about it though. Yrael... We made choices. He supported them.

Yrael is far from the only one who is going to be disabused of some notions now that Azel is dming.

I agree here. In addition to what duties he has, I feel we should request his aid in sending any lost Celestials he finds to us. The Imperium is a safe haven for them.

Also, I'm very, very daunted now. I'm really hoping there are celestials hiding in godly realms now that Heaven is done for.

I don't know if it's just me, but telling him we're going to fix heaven just doesn't seem to be the right thing to say here. I mean, we can, but it's like kissing a boo-boo to make it better. Yrael just said something rather poignant-"Do what is necessary, No matter what the price might be". We should address that. Maybe something like this?
[X] Say Something
-[X]"And I swear to you now, Yrael, as my Vassal. I will never ask for more than that."

I'm going to make a guess here and say that Divine Realms are now far more important to the flow of souls than Heaven, and that whatever poor souls end up here need to be rescued by whatever Angels remain or cut a deal with Baator

I imagine he has already been doing so, but I think explicitly changing his orders to "Find as many survivors as possible" would be a good idea.

Not being in motion involves trying to accept and reconcile something that cannot be accepted. That has broken lesser men just gazing upon it, never mind thinking about it and all the implications.

All is lost. Now we need to see the full scope of the work before us, because no one is going to be piecing what is left back together again. There's not enough pieces to get even the shape of it together again.

Whatever we build to stand in its place will be it. Because there's nothing left. Hope is what you bleed and shatter your fingers to create by your own hands, because there is no hope. No other side of the coin. No dichotomies.

There is the Pit, and then there is a gaping void.

Fair enough. I still want those questions answered though.

@LockedMind In their own realm likely.

I think summoning him in general would answer a lot of our questions. For one thing he could tell us where exactly he's been sending a bunch of souls now that the Celestial Planes are sundered. Firsthand witness there.
So where do Seven live with all their righteous-souls-made-angels if all upper plans are broken and desolate?
All gods have a godly domain in the Astral Plane. It's entirely feasible for their angels to have hidden in there.

Well considering the Seven has Celestials, we know for sure that Celestials are still being born, even if it's only happening in godly realms, not on the Planes of Elemental Good.

So. Well.

We need info.
How the souls flow now, who broke this, how it could be done.

Very important point is finding out if the personal domains of Good gods are still intact.
Those are almost impossible to take by force, since gods are an order of magnitude more powerful and unfettered in their realm, so knowing what happened there is important to get the big picture.

Check out Axis too, at least a look. Someone has to oppose evil spilling from the lower planes and the Bloodwar alone is not enough containment.
Maybe Axis is doing the job now?
