Well, if Steel Ram wins, this will be a very mobile army. And with a victory from the skirmishing phase, that should give us bonuses to even things out and stack the battle in our favor.

[X] [Diplomacy] Metapontion. The Metapontines are cordial with Eretria but have no love for the idea of us being victorious in war with Taras. We must move to keep them neutral, and if possible, to allow Thuriian infantry through their lands to assist us against Taras [-20 talents for bribes, Mnemnon will attempt to negotiate with Metapontion].
[X] [Land] Distribute the public lands [-10 Talents start-up cost for hoplites, permanently lose 9 talents per turn in public revenue, +351 Hoplites, Hoplite Ratio to 45%].
[X] [League] Accept the Pylonos' Reform Proposal [New League Strategos elected by the cities, power to preside over annual meetings, new League Games every four years, common weights and measures, veto reformed to super-majority of delegates from cities].
[X] [Strategos] Theron Zosimos (Demos Antipatria, The Storm of Iron)
-[X] Glory 6, Lawfulness 3, Friendliness 1, Courage 8, Magnificence 2, Wisdom 5

Well, if it is the will of the gods that we lose, at the least the city will be more open to newfangled ideas like hiring mercenaries, trainers, siege techniques and logistics.

[X] Carry A Big Stick (With A Snake Wrapped Round It)

I, Hermesdora Eretriazenis the psiloi, do vote for that which allows me and my fellow psiloi to give glory to Eretria! And at the same time preserves the public lands upon which we can freely graze any livestock we have!

My fellow psiloi, let's run wild like wolves! No-WE ARE THE WOLVES OF ERETRIA!

@Cetashwayo , can we approval-vote plans?

It's important to note that the land decision does not impact the war directly, just our available hoplite manpower in the aftermath as stated here.

If Storm of Iron wins it is with our already existing hoplite manpower that we fight with. No additional hoplites from giving land would come.
If we fight a major land battle, we will assuredly take hoplite casualties, and need more hoplites to replenish our numbers for future fighting against the remaining Tarentine forces, possibly the Metapontine forces, and probably against the Dauni.

We're more likely to gain respect for siege techniques and logistics if we pursue a plan (successfully or unsuccessfully) that involves siege warfare and striking at enemy logistics, as opposed to a heroic clash of manly arms on the plains of some nondescript blob of land somewhere in southern Italy.

Oh definitely. I just wanted to point out that it would not have an effect on the current war.

But I agree that more hoplites would be more important than the city's revenue if we go down the winning strategy. Thankfully that's been addressed.

The son of Aristeides and the son of Arktos Arkadios speak with eloquence befitting Athenian orators, yet honesty befitting a Lakonian. When faced with such overwhelming oratory, what can a man do but follow? I will gladly lift the stone of Arktos and hopefully for many more meetings of the people to come. In times of war, we must not be sparing with our public land, the push of pike is a dirty business, and it is in this dirty, bloody business where arete triumphs and kleos is gained, when the enemy is driven back and the slaughter begins. Do we wish to torment our own hoplitai that we restrict more good men from joining them? Do we wish to torment our young men that we prevent them from earning kleos? No. Although it pains me, the city's public lands are there for the city, and now we must act for the city. Divide the public land and strengthen our phalangitai!

It is imperative that we speak with Metapontion. I do not fear the Dauni's ability to raid our lands and punish cities that wish to be our friends, as I doubt their ability to truly take a city or fight with the ferocity of Hellenes. The Metapontines choosing the side of Taras, however, would spell calamity for not only us, but perhaps even our esteemed league. And on the subject of that league, I agree to reform the proposals suggested by honoured Pylonos. A stronger league is a stronger Furthest Eretria. Yes, I understand that this allows the league considerable power over strategy, but every man must listen to his friends, and even the most skillful taxiarch is dependent on his taxis. Let us be a strong taxis, a mighty phalanx; if Eretria Eshkata is to be the taxiarch then let her stand to the judgement of those she leads into battle.

Finally, it is custom here in Hellas, that the best man leads the good, and Theron is a man better than many. Let courageous Theron, host-bane and rough-rider, lead the othismos and bring us victory. In the dirty business of push of pike, the daring man wins. Let the high Olympians know, that Eretria Eshkata dares.

It looks to me like Steel Ram is in the lead here, but there are some people who have not put in votes but were part of the discussion or did not put in plan votes: @Redium @LonelyWolf999 @Versharl @phil03 @McLuvin @Erandil @HastyGaming

It looks to me like voting is dying down early here and I suspect part of that is because of the intricacy of voting, discouraging people from voting immediately, and the plan voting. So I think I'll have generally less intricate votes in the future and definitely not plan voting as I quite dislike it as a format.

Depending on how many more people vote I will leave the vote open for some time. However if there is a big drop-off in new votes I might move ahead to the campaign later today. We'll see how it goes.
