Tywin has some strong wards though, and definitely has been improving them as much as possible.
He just lacks defenders worth a damn unless he brings in everybody. Plus you know, the kids don't live in Casterly Rock so he needs to move them there without Lanna's divination noticing. And you can bet she casts those for her kids regularly since she can't be there all the time and the guards that can't be posted are way weaker than her.

Keeping hostages from a powerful Sha'ir... Ballsy. Although Tywin is rich, has extraplanar contacts and has (at least some) Golden Shields who are probably more loyal to him than to Gerion and Lanna.

No, it's more likely that he makes Gerion and Lanna do stuff out of familial loyalty and duty. Gerion is a Lannister, after all. And perhaps he's stupid enough to make gearing them up conditional on being "useful to House Lannister, if they'll drain its coffers singlehandedly". Idiot. Their only chance against us is serious WBL-mancy!

I wonder if Tywin set up large extraplanar trade deals? He definitely has contacts and portals, after all. Honestly I expected us to find signs of him in the Opaline Vault (he uses plane of Earth shenanigans to awaken his magelings), but it seems more likely that he's mostly dealing with some factions on the Plane of Water.
I expect Tywin to be violently opposed to anything that lessens the value of gold on Planetos. Wouldn't be surprised to see him outright reject dealing with the Shaitan because of it, while limiting Extraplanar trade to products and materials he can acquire through commodity trading, which we have already taken steps to devalue, to a certain extent.

If it isn't hostages then I sincerely hope that it isn't just familial loyalty that makes her work for him. I mean at some point you have to realize that a member of your family is being insane.

They probably do. They're just worried Viserys is going to go for 'destroy the entire family line' in the most stupid westerosi tradition. Which they're right to worry about because the thread has been stupid about this.

Not that any of this is relevant since even if Gerion and Lanna came here, they would not disguise as a 'Reyne' and Jeyne Weaver. They'd want to avoid our personal attention, not draw it.

You know, if we hit a Mindblank it would be REALLY obvious these two are Lanna and Gerion right?

As in, they would only be able to bet on being beneath our notice as to not divine them, but if we did divine them we could put two and two together EASILY. Even Viserys could put this together IC.

I mean considering that both the hard-liners and the non-hardline have agreed to remove the name from history without removing its members too much so...I don't know what you mean.

Now to be fair we did agree to spare the third cousins, just so long as they're twice-removed.

It would actually be funny if these were part of the Illithid infiltration team.

Tywin is not insane, undoubtedly monstrous, arguably foolish and short-sighted, but his actions always follow a consistent logic consistent with observable reality.
It's just the reality he observes is completely divorced from actual reality. Which is not his fault, but anyone with good contacts over in the Planes (like say a Sha'ir) is bound to have heard of our dealings with the Shaitan and noticed we've clearly already won and are just waiting to put our cards on the table.

It is politically impossible for the House Lannister to survive.

No one is particularly feeling vengeful towards anyone not named Tywin. But we essentially cannot allow Lannister, or any Lannister institutions, to survive the Reconquista. Tywin really screwed the pooch with the whole child murder thing. Can't go killing royal heirs and expect to remain a political entity afterwards.

Even Illithid aren't stupid enough to poke their noses around here. The people fucking despise them and know what to look for.

I don't think this is Lanna and Gerion. That said, if they've already considered defection by now, I'd be entirely unsurprised.

I mean, by now, both of them surely must have met enough representatives of extraplanar polities to be perfectly clear on the true value of a high-level wizard. I don't doubt Tywin considers Lanna useful, but from what I've gleaned of her current role, she's certainly seems treated as more of Gerion's hoyden wife, a necessary but distasteful resource, than the single greatest asset that House Lannister can field.

High level wizards are ambitious. They need to be. It remains to be seen how long Lanna will tolerate being referred to as "the whore of a Lannister witch" or have her children painted with that same brush.

We know too little about them as it is. But it would be interesting to find out what the actual dynamics in that family is like at this point, if only to know where to stick the knife in.
