Three Green-level enemies is hardly optimal conditions.
They are wild spirit beasts. Level of cultivation is less important so long as we have time to get all our arts running. They won't be able to buff up in the same way.

Edit: Imagine Ling Qi fighting 3 Ling Qis that don't have any arts.

3 green-level enemies that are preceded by ample prep-time to get fully buffed, a horde of lesser minions to play into our anti-army endurance/empowered build, set in full darkness. This really is as close to ideal conditions as we can expect to test the viability of our core offense strategy.

Yes and in neither of those cases did Ling Qi attempt to metabolize the qi. I never said they're not using qi, I said Ling Qi likely can't take it into her system safely for her own use.
Then I suppose your argument has to revolve around the question of whether the qi we could feel and drain is actually different in kind to the qi we normally use. That the mutual toxicity is qi based rather than based on another form of reaction. And there has been no indication that the qi we have dealt with so far is any different then the qi Ling Qi uses and identifies with.

As for not metabolizing the Impure Antlion's qi, AE's qi consumption is a passive ability. So we should have, it just wasn't talked about in the narrative. There are a couple of possibilities there. That we didn't gain qi back from AE, for whatever reason. That we did gain qi back from AE and it wasn't mentioned. Or that we did gain qi back from AE, but we couldn't use it and that wasn't mentioned.

I agree that it is possible that we can't use qi generated from AE or FSS because of the toxicity in the environment, but that presupposes that the qi down here is different in kind from what we typically use and there has been no indication of that so far. And I'm not willing to make that presupposition without more evidence.

[X] Hold your ground. You are Zeqings student and nearly a master of the Forgotten Vale Melody. Let these creatures lose themselves in your song and despair. Hold the cavern against all intruders preserving whatever is within.

[X] Choke Point. Retreat only to the entrance tunnel, and hold your ground there. May result in the caverns contents being damaged, but offers greater defensibility in the coming conflict.

We're good at swarms. Choke points are also good against swarms, so thats like, double the defense!
Except that these things burrow, so the choke point may just restrict our movements without restricting theirs.

@yrsillar does the Music element's ability to strike through "I can't hear you" defenses mean that it would strike even foes that have yet to emerge from the ground, in a spherical aoe?

I mean assuming they are just wild spirit beasts may be a problem. They look almost human which puts warning bells in my head. They also look like rats. Rats are known to gnaw on things. Right now I am giving this new enemy a non zero chance to be gnawing ones. So let's hope everything goes well.

Yrsillar has said that yes, Ling Qi's music can act through terrain. Enemies still benefit from cover bonuses to a degree though, and FVM needs a physical path to the enemy for the mists to move through.

This is a touch of a hard call.

If Zhengui was awake, I'd go all in without hesitation.

If Li Suyin or her spider were even partially third, I'd go all in in a heartbeat.

As is, it's a touch of a hard call for me, with loss aversion struggling quite bit with FOMO.

In the end though, I think it's time to lay down.

I can't think of a better way to overcome uncertainty that we would risk everything for those closest to us than to look at a friend on the cusp of our innermost circle, grin wryly, and say "Don't worry, I, you we can do this"

We aren't just a magpie that grabs treasures it wants, remember the tits necklace Cui almost tricked us into stealing for Meizhen.

One of our friends wants something, let's take it .

Might change my mind if Yrs answers the "buff up" question with a firm negative.

Do not think retreating is the right move here, risking for Li Suyin feels like the right choice.

And given the opposition and our fighting style, I do not think a choke point would be much of an improvement.

So all in we go.

Literally Ling Qi's strongest field, to take on a swarm of poorly coordinated foes with a handful of legitimate threats in their number--that swarm becomes a liability. More importantly, we have a little time to spool up before it hits in earnest, and it doesn't matter if they can see our stuff or not, because the Music element means we hit them anyway if they're in our territory.

Choke pointing is normally a good move, but as was established, these guys can dungeon bypass to a certain degree, and it would cost us time setting up the choke point.

Plus, well, we need to help recover from her recent shakiness. Not ceding ground for the sake of an ally, even against daunting (But this time, not impossible odds) seems like a good step in the right direction.

I don't really see how we would in any way benefit from a choke point. Our entire strategy thrives on large open areas where we can dance and evade right in the midst of our enemies.

Shame we have never gotten an art to get enemies to hit each other. That would be a logical next step.
