Magical Girl Escalation Taylor (Worm/Nanoha)

So anyways. If we go with Physical Heal, should we have Lacey register with the PRT first or go heal at hospitals to establish her bona fide first?

Get her Physical heal, and send her to the hospital to train and be tested. Not everybody needs to be a martyr like Panacea and Malcibuin. Take a job as a nurse. Healing spells for cash!

Uh, @Silently Watches , what's Lacey's third spell aside from Cover and Strike Boost? The character sheet seems to imply that it's Ring Bind... which, by "Five targets can be affected at a time.", should have instantly ended the fight. Does Lacey need more tactical training?

Right, sorry - I looked at the character sheet, went "hang on, her third spell is Ring Bind - did Lacey make a mistake or am I just horribly misreading something?" No worries. That does bump up the priority of getting Lacey some tactical training at some point, though, even if we want her to focus on healing/support. Ring Bind is a very, very good ace to have up one's sleeve - as long as you remember you have it.

Won't make much of a difference, really. Lacey is going to be very resistant to doing any kind of tactical or combat training.

The tactical training she needs is "ring bind stops the fight without hurting anybody unless there are brutes or more than five people involved".

I'm very much in favor of getting her physical heal and getting her started healing at a hospital at a reasonable rate. Yes, she could heal for free, but charging a reasonable fee means she could spend a lot more time healing. I'm sure SW has seen the people who feel doctors should work for free because it's "the right thing to do". As long as she isn't charging predatory rates or refusing to help people without getting paid up front, her conscience should stay clean.

That brings up a detail for ring bind, though. How much can she adjust the bindings? Being able to gently restrain a patient could save lives all on its own. I'm sure she can knock people out further down one of these spell trees.

I think she should be tested by the hospital, and register later, personally.

She could pull a page from Maclibuin's interlude, and say she's new to her power(true, too) and wanted to help as she could. Getting a job as an official rogue or hero healer can come later.

She also needs to realize how much getting to fly will help with bringing in the groceries, though she could also just ask Sam or Taylor to teleport it all up if she doesn't care so much about anonymity. Note that I don't mean flying up and in through the window. She could float up the stairs, looking like she's climbing them normally but using magic to take most of the burden.

On an unrelated note, I would so heavily abuse having magic =P

Now, if only social with the Adepts and Lacey had won, we could send her and Maclibuin together to hospitals. Sending an experienced cape with her would help ensure that she doesn't get in a fight she can't escape from or hold off long enough to call us in. Yes, I'm paranoid. Unlike Always-late, though, I sip from my paranoia punch while I watch him do keg-stands.

@Silently Watches I asked before but didn't see a response. Would Barrett Boost affect our spells? Since the template was combat support, I would think so, but it could be that it is for enhancing magi-tech energy weaponry and has no beneficial effect on spells of any stripe.

Edit: Found the line that says what d12s are for: Epoch's Rare Skill, on the other hand (which is pretty much the only time you'll see me roll a 12-sided die in this quest), was a surprise.

I wonder what they got and which character got it.

I did answer this question. Barret Boost increases power of Shooter and bombardment spells. It does not affect tech.

I didn't roll a d12 though?

Then I just missed it, or it fell back out of my head as soon as I read it. My bad.

Didn't you a few pages back? I'll go look....
Nope. I don't know why that stuck in my head as something recently done. Maybe I'm mixing in what happened with the Adepts with your rolls a few days ago for the Protectorate/PRT. How little I can rely on my brain lately is immensely frustrating.

Thinking about it, I think it was a discussion on the 19 you rolled that made me think of rare skills and then connect that with the comment about Epoch's rare skill.

Not necessarily how I would word it, but it's close enough. I'm sure the differences between "career options" and "healing for pay" are merely pedantic, so I'm copy/pasting. Career options sounds too long term, and "testing as a parahuman healer" is possibly giving too much information away, as, unlike parahumans, her powers are going to grow. A lot. In a few weeks, she could move from a trump 4( I think healing's a trump rating, and physical heal seems pretty strong, relatively speaking) to trump 7 or 8, depending on what's down that spell tree and how we vote.

Of course, starting the mage trial program in Philly means she could be registered with the PRT on that front, but I think it'll take a few weeks before that is really an option.

Depends on how the healing is achieved. Panacea, for instance, is not classified as a trump but a striker. Othala was a trump, but that's because she did not heal so much as grant regeneration, and giving other people powers is one definition of trump power sets. Lacey would likely be considered a striker or a very short-range blaster for her healing power.

Of course, the Boost spells are all solidly trump for the same reason as Othala's, but that's a story for another time.

You know. An interesting idea comes to mind: hospitals likely network with each other. I wonder how they are gonna react to two healers with similar powers showing up in such a small time frame. Especially with how few actual healing capes there are in general.

-[x] Physical Heal
[x] Explore her powers in the real world (non-combat)
-[x] Go to the ASPCA and volunteer. See how she can use magic to help out.

Suggestions on what she can do:
  • healing (and better to test on animals than humans, since she seems pretty wary about her powers)
  • cleaning / disinfecting
  • distracting and comforting frightened animals (perhaps a precursor to / inspiration for Purple Haze)

-[x] Cape name (Vitaemancer)

She's still gonna need a name when she introduces herself at the hospital... which I'm terrible at coming up with whole cloth, though my brain did go through an odd train of thought on this one:
Lacey + Support (+Tailor) = Quilted? (Or some other pun on the idea of stitching people back together / making them stronger)
Maybe on a solo outing she can run into The Knitter (https://www.dailydot.com/culture/the-knitter-tumblr-fanart-cosplay/)

Good point, though Maclibuin's interlude shows that she could get away with "haven't decided on a name yet".

So, suggestions:
Wench. We're not really about the Privateers any more, but I figured I should throw in something that would fit.
Nightingale, for Florence Nightingale.
Scrubs, for the common name for doctor/nurse attire
Renaissance, for "rebirth"
Succor
Mend
Supplementary
Medicine Woman
Healer, possibly so generic nobody thought to use it
Endow
Vitaemancer, translates as "life diviner", but Vitaetheurge, or "life mage" sounds even worse
Relief
Enchantress
Nobody
The Bag Lady
Overlook
Overwatch
Armory, though it doesn't fit her personality. It just keeps jumping up and down trying to catch my attention.
Alleviate

Eh, I'll keep thinking.
