Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Yeah know. I am going to trust Shen Hu with this. This is a dream scaled towards us, so anything thrown at his village will be something he can handle. And if one of the big guys actually go against that village it means that one of the New Weilu is there and Shen is already in trouble due to the Prince fight we the previous update.

Trust your friends in this. Even if he isnt one yet.

Ugh, makes sense but this isn't great for us. Don't think asking for power at the price of allies would be in character for Ling Qi. Asking for mortals to be spared would be a bit much though, don't imagine that'll fly at all. I can't see a way to avoid them being collateral damage in this civil war.

[X] Accept the blessing of Fang

Shen Hu has shown good sense, and he knows that this is a dream. If he feels the King or a hunt coming, I trust him to get the hell outta dodge. He is faster than LQ when he's underground after all.

I think we stand far more to gain in appealing on behalf of the mortals. The elders are likely watching how disciples act in the memory. Abandoning the main duty of the cultivator for a personal blessing isn't a good look. More to the point, even the true Weilu are cultivators. The lord isn't going to give us that much heat for asking to spare the mortals, because protecting the mortals is something he'd understand and even have partook in, to some degree.

e: would also prefer to ask over the safety of our friend over a reward. Even if he's perfectly safe on his own, I don't feel it's certain enough or a good enough excuse (and it is an excuse) not to ask.

I think at best we could get his word on Shen Hu if we asked him. Getting him to spare all the mortals though is probably impossible. At the same level as asking the Bai to spare everyone that went into the jungle beside the Sun clan.

Hmm talk of trusting Shen Hu and that the civilians aren't the target seems convincing.

So, this went waaaaaaay better than expected. Seems that we have a 'down' time to think about things before going full Wild Hunt.

I am inclined her to trust Shen Hu. He wanted to come with us, and he knows the risk. Furthermore, we can't micromanage our friends all the time, even assuming that Shen Hu is already a friend. They will do dangerous things, and sometimes the party will be split. This might even not have permadeath, so who knows.

I will vote for Hide because I think it fits Ling Qi better, but if it's Fang vs Shen Hu, I'll switch.

"Protect the Mortals" is an Imperial custom, made from good sense to maximize Cultivator population.

I don't suspect he'll kill a bunch for no reason, but he won't care how many die in the process.

You don't escape a riptide by fighting it. You escape by letting it carry you until you have an inch to move. And he told us right here and now. "You haven't done me a major service, just a minor and appreciated one, which is enough that I'm willing to give you a comparable boon in turn." We ask for something that'll change his actual battle plan, he'll laugh in our face at best.

We're committed now, all we can do is have faith in Shen Hu and his established cunning and ability to handle the wilds to do his part, and ride the wave and hope we can do something as we go along. The time to try and back out and save the mortals was last vote.

Taking a personal blessing to get caught up in the dream, kill some people as part of the hunt ourselves, set back our budding friendship with Shen Hu, and not even try to stop some atrocities is pretty horrible.

I would rather appeal for the safety of the mortals and fail then never try at all. It's unconscionable to do otherwise.

e: also, no, it is not an Imperial custom specifically. It is an old legend

Sadly this is either pre empire cultivators or just after. And the Weilu as told and now as seen is far more spirit then they are humans. Protecting the mortals is a far more modern outlook on things. We can probably get him to spare Shen Hu because he is not really involved, but getting him to spare all the mortals?
