The Deep Ones don't know it's us - that's why Dywen is so useful.
Exactly. I'm worried about the Deep Ones not seeing this as anything to do with our truce, but still seeing the weirwood as a prime target that's invading their hunting grounds. There would be nothing stopping them from attacking and destroying it.

Not to mention the fact that such a visual symbol of turning against the Drowned God makes these guys a target for all the other Ironborn, and especially Drowned Men fanatics. It would probably spark a crusade.

@Goldfish it might be a good idea to add in something that explains the actions of the OGs. The guy's obviously been around the block more than a few times and giving the mysterious stranger a motive would probably put him more at ease than any reassurances we could give.

Also, what is our long-term plan here? I was under the impression that we'd have him publically convert, and in return we'd be growing a bunch of vegetation/a heart tree. One obviously that isn't sacrificed with the Toad Idol, and since it was done by 'Dywen' the Illithid won't know it was us anyway.
Hence my additional to Goldfishs vote. The implication is that the Old Gods need him to do his job and do it well. It's not a gift, but up-front payment for him preparing his holdings for the war against winter.

I'm not so sure about this. Would some sort of demonstration of power be needed? Yes, but defending the Heart Trees is why we started making the plant creatures. Teleport them in and have them scatter the Deep One pawns. Rodrick will also be running countermeasures, and he's recently gotten a hell of an upgrade.

I also want to do more than just grow a Heart Tree - the idea of making a good part of the island fertile, or at least bear plant life, would give these people a lot.

It's less about the Ironborn themselves and more about the Deep Ones. The Iron Islands are one of their strongholds. I will be astonished if a Heart Tree growing on the Iron Islands isn't met with excessive force in retaliation. It would not in any way break the truce for an Ulitharid and an army of Deep Ones minions to show up and wreck whatever plant guardians we send over to protect the place, along with destroying the weirwood.

  • [X] Goldfish
[X] Answer politely. Appear surprised that he's rejecting a healer come to help his Lord and asking for naught but hospitality for miracles.
[X]"Nothing but the blood of those that striped you of your sanity, who wish to enslave your people, and those among your people that are already willing slaves to these abominations."
[X] "The cost is your allegiance. Not to the gods, but to your own people, those who rely on you to steer the course and see them safe in these ever more troubled times."
-[X] "Rule them wisely, and ever with a wary eye turned to the sea, for below the waves there live monsters who have less regard for mankind than you would a rabid cur."
--[X] "Beware the Drowned Men, for they are tools of the Deep Ones, who would see all men as little more than food."
---[X] "Guide your people through the war against the waves and the war of men, so that they may be ready when Winter comes."

I wonder if anyone will ever notice that "Dywin" casts his spells in Valyrian or draconic.
Not First Tongue or any Westerosy language.

Kinda doesn't make sense for the character.

While technically true, I doubt they would be so unsubtle. They've been putting a lot of effort to remaining Sub Rosa, if they would act against the Heart Tree it'll be through the Drowned God fanatics, and those'll be something that we could handle while not giving the game away.

It might have been useful to have hit him with a Heal to repair the damage his body has taken over the years of his life, like bad liver or old damage to limbs, extend his living years to max "allocated" instead of letting him die sooner from accumulated damage.

Also, higher quality of life while he works to fight the mindflayers and others.

I think we did use Heal.
It cures mind and body, and we have it known so no wishes wasted.

@DragonParadox, is it possible to reincarnate him as a Mature Adult or older rather than a Young Adult? We're using Blood Wish to direct the reincarnation, and we're not trying to totally screw the heir over by making it so that he inherits in another 40-50 years or something.
His heir should, as I understand Azel, hire on with us and earn something of his own if he's out for Glory and riches.

Not really, The young adult part is central to the spell's theme of renewal
Is he even old enough to worry about dying before his maximum age if he's already been healed of all physical and mental illness? And even general susceptibility to disease from stat maluses could be solved with a Con item.

Blood Wish-directed reincarnation. We can Blood Wish the reincarnate, and then we can use another Blood Wish to direct the spell and make him a human male.

It brings up an awkward succession problem, though... @DragonParadox, can we just shave 20 or 30 years off instead of just making him a young adult? I'd like to avoid accidentally stripping the son of his inheritance.
We can always just heal him fully and completely, that don't work forever of course, but the lifespan of a medieval human was 50-70 year normally, whereas for modern humans living for between 70 to a 100 years is the norm, and our healing is superior to normal healing, if we heal him fully and keep doing that at least every other year, he should have at least a few decades in him.

Healing can't reverse aging damage, but it can reverse everything that has sped it up, every sickness, every drinking binge, every wound that left lingering damage, every time stress made him age a little faster, all that shave fragments of lifespan away from people, and all that lifespan we can restore by magic.

Guess the only thing that can be done is to give him a Greater Ribbon of disguise to help him sell the ruse that he's still old. Even Aemon did the extraordinary and lived to the ripe old age of 102. The ruse might only really wear on if someone physically accosted him, or he lived longer than a decade more, and by then he could divest of it safely.
