23rd Day Of Light: *Pipismon* & *Stingmon*
[] Plan Full Frontal Assault: You have no idea if this champion is waiting for you or not, so cautiously go inside with Beat and get ready to fight it two on one from the get go.

===

Right let's... Let's do this.

You take a few deep breaths, thinking on on what the two of you could do in order to increase your chances of victory and lower the chances of being deleted. After a few seconds, you tighten up your chest and try to strike a confident chord.

"We'll be cautious. Ready to fight on the approach." you state, glancing at the dark looming depths of the cave. The Wormmon begins to rolls his eyes at your words, and seems to be ready to say that was what he planned to do anyways, but stops himself at that last moment.

"Understood."

"I'll be… Well, I'll try to get its attention during the fight. You'll uh, hit Pipismon while he's distracted." The insect digimon nods at that, and you pause for a moment, thinking of a possible complication. "Hrm, how well will you see in the cave? I mean it'll be dark, so…"

"Well enough."

That's… good? I guess?

After a single shudder, you step forward in tandem with Beat, tentatively passing through the cavern mouth. Together you slowly creep a few dozen feet into the cave, keeping towards the center of the slowly shrinking cavern walls as it winds leftwards through the mountain. Initially your claws make a clacking sound against the ground, something you try to silence as best as you can by bending your toes upwards as you walk. The floor is covered in dozens of shallow lines, from where blades must have carved into the stone; as a result of this hundreds of tiny shards of rock are scattered across the surface.

If Beat is scared, he doesn't show it. Instead the insectoid digimon is almost scarily intense and focused on the path ahead, scanning through the darkness to try and spot Pipismon. For your part, you try hard to keep your own fear and nervousness at bay.

Forty-seven seconds into the the approach, your eye finally manages to catch sight of the Pipismon, finding the feral champion curled up at the very back of the cave, apparently deep in the grip of sleep. Pipismon looks to be nearly twice your height but thinly built, with thick looking blue fur interlaced with a few patches of almost snow white fur. Two enormous ears sprout up from the champion head, raised and alert even in its sleep. The champions wings are currently folded across it's back, forming the simulacrum of a blanket. Massive fangs protrude from the feral mon's massive jaw, and you do a double-take at its form upon realizing that instead of paws the beast digimon's limbs all end in wicked looking sickles.

Spirits above! That isn't right!

Biting back a yelp of surprise, you come to a halt and reflexively rear up, ready to defend yourself in case it attacks. For a moment it looks like the champion hasn't noticed your presence, but then Beat's foot hits one the many many pebbles strewn across the ground, sending it sliding forward into another with an ever so tiny *clack*.

Pipismon's orange eyes instantly snap open, and the mon in question jerks its head towards the disturbance, i.e. yourself and Beat.

It's awake!

A horrible screeching sound rips free from the champions throat as its jaw unhinges and stretches open wide enough to swallow your head whole, bouncing off the cavern's walls and funneling it towards the entrance. Your ears throb and ring in protest, and you wobble in place; nearly throwing up as a sudden nausea rises in your gut. It leaps up in the blink of an eye and charges, bladed feet causing more sharp sounds as it skids across the cavern floor.

The feral champion closes with speed belying its strange digits and lashes out with its right arm, leaving you with barely enough time to raise up your nose and catch the blow before it sinks into your skull. Metal slides against metal with a groan of protest as the champion expertly rotates its wrist, hooking the digit around your nose and then pulling left.

Erk-strong!

The lanky digimon yanks your head aside and opens its massive jaws, clearly intent on biting into your defenseless flank-

-only to start loudly hacking as a line of silk is shot directly into its mouth and down its gaping maw. The grip on your nose slides back, leaving with just enough leverage to set your feet.

Getitgetitgetit!

You shove your spinning claws at the champion's narrow torso with a panicked squeal, and nigh instantly begin drill though its digital flesh with a disgusting squelch as the digging instruments slam home. The big rodent lets out a muted roar of sudden pain and tenses its left shoulder, bringing up its opposite arm for a tearing cut intended to rip out your throat. If you hadn't been sparring with Pidmon for the past several days, the attack would have torn through the flesh on your arm and hooked around the bones in your forearm. Instead it clashes against the claws of your right paw, wrapping around the digits but causing no actual harm.

"Worm Tail!"

In the next instant Beat leaps directly into Pipismon's face, stabbing his his pincers through the champion's right eye. Another nearly deafening shriek of pain erupts through the cave, once again making your ears throb in protest and your comrade jumps away just in time to avoid being torn in half by the champion's scything tail.

The beast twists its grip again and shoves you away, tearing away a chunk of flesh from its chest in the process, and then violently coughs, expelling the silk from its body. Now half-blinded, choking and sporting a large wound your opponent seems to have had enough. It takes a deep breath, its chest inflating to twice its normal size.

That isn't good!

"Crazy Sonic!"

A small green blur tackles the enemy's head even as you dodge away, meaning only the edge of the sonic blast catches your right side. Even that is enough to send you flying back to slam painfully against the cavern wall. Pain flares up across your body from the impact, and your muscles feel almost as bad as when those Vilemon ganged up on you, but thankfully you're not crippled or dead. It is, however, enough to make your poor, abused right eardrum finally ruptures, and the pain of all those exposed nerves dwarfs any other aches you've received in this fight by far. Sorcerymon's healing incantation reflexively begins to cross your lips as you slid back towards the ground.

Pipismon's tail catches the now retreating Beat, dealing the Wormmon a *glancing blow* that slices through a full half of your comrade's hide and draws a small eruption of data from the newly opened gash.

Spirits below! Beat!

The insect digimon goes flying down the tunnel towards the exit, tumbling across the ground and around the bend out of sight. Pipismon begins skating after the rookie, and you sprint after the two of them with all the speed you can muster. Thankfully, your spell finishes a few steps in, bringing soothing relief to your wounds.

You catch up to the Pipismon near the mouth of the cave, and are just in time to witness the Beat jump into its gaping mouth. The jaws slam shut a moment later, trapping the little rookie in perhaps the most deadly place you can think of at the moment. If it starts to chew...

No!

You leap forward-

"Drill Spin!"

-and plunge your nose directly into the feral champion's back. The momentum sees you sinking up to your face in the enemy mon's hide, but you don't stop there. "Screw Claw!"

Rip. And. Tear.

You burrow through the struggling digimon in a flash of angry red, tearing through it like you would any other substance. It might have taken you thirty seconds to go through a few feet of stone. Pipismon's body may be tougher than yours, but still significantly weaker than stone. Roaring in victory your head erupts out through the front of the thrashing champions chest, dealing it an undoubtedly mortal blow. Then, as the creature's struggles all but stop you pull the your body through in a burst of data.

Despite having deleted Pipismon, the anger from before still remains. You roar again, cursing the beast digimon for what it had done to your ally, and dive back towards it, intent on mutilating whatever is left.

However you freeze as a very familiar white glow bursts out from its body and suddenly illuminates the cavern.

Spirits below, no! It can't be digivolving!

Wrath fades away into panic, and you back away towards the nearby entrance, shaking in sudden fear. It's only a half-moment later that you hear something unexpected, and realize the light is coming from inside Pipismon, rather than from Pipismon itself.

"Wormon Digivolve Tooo!"

"Stingmon!"

Your comrade bursts free from the rapidly collapsing digimon's skull, exploding the already fading champion into hundreds if not thousands of tiny pieces. Nearly overwhelming nausea attacks your stomach at the sight, and it's a struggle to keep your lunch of travel bread down. Pipismon's data swirls around the newly evolved Stingmon as he loads whatever portions available before the rest vanishes into the ether.

Beat stares down at his new limbs, eyes somehow conveying a certain sense of satisfaction. His new clawed hands snap shut in a blur of motion, and with an audible *pop*, long spikes erupt out from his forearms. His head violently jerks to face you, igniting a sudden tinge of fear from your core. You try to speak up and think of something to say, but it dies in your throat. He just gives a single nod and blurs out of the cave.

Several seconds passed in stunned silence as you try to process what just happened.

He- Beat survived and now… now he's a champion? Is that right?

You shake your head and rush out towards the exit, idly wondering why in the world Beat intentionally jumped into Pipismon's mouth earlier.

Upon leaving the cave, you're met with a sight you couldn't have seen coming: namely a green blur attacking Sergeant Scratch. The Gladimon and his dual sabers are in constant motion, parrying stabs, kicks and claw strikes sent from all angles as Beat dances around him.

...What?!

Blinking in confusion, you take a second and then:

=== Choose One:

[] Heal yourself once again and wait, you're pretty sure that there's still damage to your ears from the Pipismon. Maybe this isn't what it looks like?

[] Shout for them to stop, and ass why they're fighting! Beat just digivolved so one of them could get hurt, and Scratch is your leader. They have no reason to fight!

[] Push past your fear, tap into your anger and sprint towards them to get in the midst of the combat. You'll stop them with your body if you have to!

Authors Note: Woot! Got this done! Started later than I thought, but once I really got going it wasn't too hard. I hope you all enjoyed Beat's evolution. One Bonus point to the person who can guess what Beat's current stats are :p

The fight was fun. Beat clearly had a plan at the end there with regards to jumping into Pipismon's mouth, one which Verge seems to have screwed up by hulking out, but it turned out to be fine because he digivolved anyways. I highly doubt there's anything bad going on here in this fight; Stingmon's a Virus type iirc(I know Wormmon at least is), so he might just be dealing with a lesser version of what Gnaw was, and Scratch is helping him blow off steam.

That went well and Figures he became a Stingmon.

Let's heal up and enjoy the free show.

Yeah, I sincerely doubt that Beat would suddenly try to kill Scratch. More likely he's testing his new body against the strongest and most talented ally he can. The description of Scratch's actions sound fully defensive as well, and given his likely stat line, I sincerely doubt that even with all his stats capped before digivolving, that Beat can actually defeat him.

My best guess at Beat's new stats:

Strength: 480
Fortitude: 450
Endurance: 375
Agility: 760
Special: 420
Spirit: 420

Aw great Verge is the weakest of the Group again. Oh well, Verge will show them once He reaches Champion!

He may not be a Legend, Godling, or something just as ridiculous like that. But he is a Champion mutated Rookie and that's has meaning too.

I highly doubt his Fortitude upon becoming Stingmon would only get a 2.5 multiplier, considering Stingmon's bio points out its exoskeleton as being particularly tough.

My personal guess is:

Strength 480
Fortitude 630
Endurance 450
Agility 665
Special 420
Spirit 420

Though shouldn't he have gotten a boost from loading that guy? maybe loading him was what caused the evolution in the first place tho. Even so, he was described as loading a bit after evolving as well.

Heh, sorry but that's not right either.

Also my challenge doesn't factor in the boost from loading which people would have no idea how to figure out. This being completely unfair.

Always looked more like tough for its agility rather than objectively tough like the big bugs

Even if it's exactly what it looks like I'd rather not jump inbetween the two fighting champions.

I suppose that is a possibility, but I still think the multiplier is at least x3. I don't recall him being frail or anything back in the show either. I don't remember 02 as well as the first season but iirc he could take hits fairly well.

Yeah, I meant that Stingmon looks like a high strength/agility striker whose defense doesn't actually suck. Starting with 600 Fortitude looks weird on Stingmon because it says his durability as as significant as his speed(which is patently false because Stingmon is particularly fast for its category) or attack power.

Its tougher than most non-metal/armored humanoid digimon...but those are usually like Wizardmon, and categorically squishy(like, there are Rookies with more durability squishy).
600 Fortitude says to me something like a Kuwagamon, with built in armor thicker than your leg.

Ah, I see. Yeah, that does make sense. In that case, the stats could be:

Strength 480
Fortitude 540
Endurance 450
Agility 760
Special 420
Spirit 420

AKA a x4 in Agility and x3 in everything else. It might have less than a x3 in one or both of its non-physical stats since all of its moves and abilities are physical, but I'm not sure.

As a note there is a difference between durability and mass.

Stingmon while tough is laughably small for an insect digimon. Being only about 7 feet instead of 14-16 feet and built nimbly instead of monstrous

If a Stingmon and Kuwagamon have the same defense, and both take a powerful hit, the Kuwagamon will be better off in most circumstances as he has a much bigger body to distribute that force.

Kuwagamon's armor maybe be thicker but pound for pound (which is the important thing here) that doesn't mean it's necessarily tougher when it comes to direct fortitude.

[X] Push past your fear, tap into your anger and sprint towards them to get in the midst of the combat. You'll stop them with your body if you have to!

The reason I'm voting for this one is because is while this is the most dangerous out of the three options, it is also the most beneficial for Verge, as I think the options influences Verge's personality.

Reason 1 it states that Verge will push pass his fear meaning that this option would at the very least be a step forward in getting rid of Verge's cowardly trait.

Reason 2 This option would have Verge face danger if his friends are in danger, which meant that Verge would be able to get over his fear hangups regarding stronger digimons if his friends are in danger.

Reason 3 Because Verge is willing to face such dangers, this would help in facing the Count and Repulsa I believe.

Stingmon's a assassin build mates

That's not lore. That's the biology of the mon, swift sudden strikes or shooting. A tank it ain't

Goddamnit Beat, are you pulling your "fight the strongest 'mon around" shit again?

Beat probably just wants to test out his new strength.

I knew that frontal assault was stupid now we have more problems with the squad. Verge is injured, Beat was close to dying and has a grudge with Sarge, there will be massive lost of trust no matter how this goes.

Dammit.

Um... Archer? That's not quite what's happening here I think. Verge is injured, yes. But he has a couple more casts of his healing spell left for the day. Beat... while he did come close to dying, I don't think he has a grudge against Scratch. He's testing his new limits out, now that he's evolved. We need to be able to hear if either of them are saying anything during this, because both of them now have face covers that make it impossible to tell if anything is being said while we're deafened. For all we know Scratch is giving Beat pointers on how to use his new weapons more effectively.
