Just an advice

If you are gonna offer a healing item in the voting options don't end the chapter hinting at a huge battle. People are gonna vote for it anyways

It could lead into some neat interactions. Like I dunno Verge turbo focusing on learning healing magic and cue someone from the village dragging him out of his books
Mmm, things were actually pretty close on the vote 8-7. But yeah, I do actually agree, ended up regretting it a couple hours after the update launched. It just kind of made sense to me with Sorcerymon offering as they're about to go since he was concerned, but I should have found a better place for it,

Maybe healing that arm the hard way will get him to be less reckless from now on.

[X] No, (Things stay the same)

A life crowded with lots and lots of obligations is less likely to be a happy one. Maybe if things continue to go well we can get more attached later.

I'm gonna repeat something that I mentioned in the discord: I think it's really neat how drexal is able to believably portray a biased perspective while still giving the hints needed to show when that perspective is incorrect. If you follow the context clues it becomes clear that it was actually an incredibly dangerous fight for Flamemon, which he only won because A. he had a massive elemental advantage, B. He used an incredibly risky tactic that was pretty much guaranteed to get him killed if it failed, and C. A single sucker punch from that guy when he was near-death broke his arm. Seriously; I think that if Flamemon had to throw three more punches than he did, he'd have fizzled out entirely and gotten shredded by that projectile attack. However, Verge doesn't realize any of this and thinks Flamemon won easily, both because of his idealized view of Flamemon and because Flamemon tried his absolute best to hide his exhaustion after the fight was over due to wanting to look cool for Verge.

It's a really cool way of taking advantage of the medium to build characterization.

Edit:

The disk was pointless I'm so mad at all of you right now! :mob:
I mean, I wouldn't say it's pointless - just not worth using right now.

Though honestly, I have a sneaking suspicion that either choice with regards to using it will have consequences. Either we don't use it and Flamemon's broken arm will cause him to lose a fight he could have won, or we use it and someone gets seriously hurt and we have no way of helping them. Or something like that.

So is anyone else getting the feeling we are moving more and more from the knightly hero ideal of our bro and becoming more and more like a simple family mon?

As everything we do can be pretty much be boiled down to does it help/protect my friends/family in some manner. Heck our complete change in focus to learn some kind of healing over everything else really nails home the kind of mon we are and I got to say that is really neat.

That's my vote for a quick reason. That said, it is more likely that we'd want to IC up Lunamon and our charge as a Major/Minor goal anyway.

Doing a vote count. 10 so far. Seems pretty one sided. Bit surprised the whole "Trying for Family" thing is winning so heavily.

I have a question about the "General Fighting" skill. Based on the name, I was under the impression that it measures baseline skill at fighting(and will of course get harder and harder to raise as time goes on), and more specialized types of fighting would build off of it. Is this correct?

Yes that is is correct. Mon can move to specialize further into things like swordsmanship, fisticuffs, etc.

With your party having been able to deal with the Goblimons employer early in the morning, Gramps allows the pace set while coming back to be a bit more leisurely. Something that you think makes a lot of sense considering how most of you are hurt in at least some capacity. That night after setting up camp you find out how painful the wound that Wizardmon inflicted upon you truly was. Chewing the solid food your leader had brought along is a painful challenge given your missing teeth and damaged gums but you stay silent about it. Flamemon has it worse after all, as he's only able to use one of his arms while the other is a constant pain. A few times you almost offer him the healing disc, but never manage to actually go through with it.

In your mind if the healing disc could save another one of your friends in the future, then saving it would be more important than some pain on Flamemons part, albeit if only barely.

That night you manage to handle falling asleep away from the village and your bed slightly better. However that fact is marred by yet another painful nightmare that has you waking up screaming.

Your party arrives back at the villages gates late next morning and after making sure Sparks has parked his Mechanorimon in a way that won't hinder anyone's way or out Gramps tells everyone to listen up. The old Elecmon explains that he'll call everyone when lunch is ready, but for now you should all rest.

Fu lets out a ragged cheer at his words and heads off through the open gate towards her hut, Auger & Sparks follow behind her shortly thereafter. Flamemon doesn't bother using the gate, instead deciding to just vault over the wall in a bid to get to his shelter.

You frown after the tall rookie, then shake you head and start padding through the entrance. After everything that happened, you simply want to go nap as well, but are waylaid by a couple familiar figures before you can so much as get halfway back.

"Verge you're back!" Lunamon happily shouts, bouncing up towards you with a grin on her face. However this quickly turns around as she notices the half-healed wound on your face. "But you're hurt..."

"Ah'm glad yer okay" Sorcerymon says, peering at your "But not without a scratch or two Ah see" The white champion raises a hand quickly muttering a number of lines. A moment later you feel a soothing sensation over your face and in your mouth, and one inspection later you're amazed to find that the teeth you'd lost have actually grown back!

"Thanks! Sorcerymon!"

"Wasn't no trouble" he replies, letting out a small chuckle. "Ah do hope the disc came in handy partner"

"Well.. uh. Ah-I mean I didn't use it" you admit, a surge of guilt making you hang your head.

"Oho, no need to apologize little feller, I'm glad none of you young'uns got hurt" Sorcerymon says giving a reassuring pat to your shoulder. Before the two of you can talk more Lunamon suddenly perks up and starts hopping in place.

"Ooh! Ooh! Verge!" She shouts, rapidly waving her arms in the air to get your attention "Little brother evolved!"

R-really? B-but he only hatched like... A few days ago.

"Graar!" A high pitched voice snarls out from behind the two mon alerting you to the presence of a newcomer.

What could only be the evolved form of Jyarimon sprints between the champion and rookie, his tiny limbs moving back and forth at a frantic pace. He moves at a surprising pace for an In-Training mon, though nothing you can't easily keep track of. The In-Training digimon decides to greet you a few *threatening* growls while bouncing up and down all around you with wild energy. After a couple seconds of this he finally goes in for a bite leaping in for your arm.

Despite his recent evolution, the result is almost exactly the same as before, i.e. with him only getting a small amount of fur. The only difference this time being that his teeth manage to actually go deep enough to scrape harmlessly against your skin.

"Hey! Bad digimon!" Lunamon yells, her forehead antennae moving to point directly at the small black mon. "Tear Shoot!" A blast of water erupts from her appendage and showers your *Little Brother* carrying him off of your limb and down to the ground. You get sprayed with a little bit of water too, but her accuracy is quite good considering that the front half of your body isn't soaked. "I've been trying to make him not do that." Lunamon explains with a pouty *hmph*. The little rookie glares down at the wet reptile digimon, her arms moving down to settle on her hips.

Much to your surprise, he actually falters under her disapproving stare, looking sadly down at the ground.

Huh. Lunamon is... I-I guess she can handle him.

"Do you know what we can call him?" you question, looking down at the former Jyarimon. The In-Training digital monster seems to take your voice as an invitation, whirling around and leaping up towards your shoulder. In the next second he's climbed up your body and is snuggling up within the fur on your back.

Lunamon looks nervous for a second then gives an embarrassed shrug.

"I...'ve just been calling little brother*You* and *Bad Digimon*" Lunamon replies. "Maybe... Maybe Onii-Chan you could give him a nickname?"

Choose One:

[] Chompy, after his habit of biting others. You think Lunamon might using enjoy this one on him.

[] Sharptooth, due to his teeth while that are well.. sharp. They did manage to cut your fur at least.

[] Thresh, because of how you've seen the little digimon tear his food apart.

[] Varm, Sorcerymon referred to him as *Varmit* so something about calling him part of that is funny.

Gramps wakes everyone up for lunch at the start of the early afternoon and the meal is pretty peaceful. Your friends seem to have regained their good moods for the most part, with one odd exception. Flamemon isn't quite as cheer as usual, though the why of that becomes clear rather quickly. It doesn't look like he'd gotten his arm has been healed at all. You want to ask about it, but end up holding your tongue upon realizing that that would sour the mood.

Plus that would stop you from eating, which would be unfortunate. Your appetite has increased what feels like four fold in the past few weeks, before a couple bowls of stew were enough to satisfy you, now it takes a full eight to the same. Indeed it's grown just as your body has increased in size. In the past few days you've become much wider and taller nearly reaching the same height as Flamemon when standing up!

Of course, your *Little Brother* is as messy as ever when it comes to devouring the stew, using his new timely appendages to hold down the bowl while he attacks it with a frenzied fervour. He particularly seems to favour the meat, devouring that first with wild abandon before grudgingly moving on to attack the vegetables. Lunamon has to spray him with another burst of water to stop him from trying to consume the bowl itself.

You wait until after everyone has finished and gone about on their later business to walk up to Sorcerymon and ask about why Flameon hasn't been healed. The answer is a surprising and somewhat worrying one.

"Why. The caretaker told me not ta heal'im" Sorcerymon explains. "Ah swear by Kami that old Elecmon has only gotten more strict in the last year"

Last... Last year?

"Y-you mean you've met Gramps before this?"

"Darn tootin' right ah have. Ah hatched here in the village, Ole Gramps was the one ta raise me! Well before I met Revolvmon anyways." Sorcerymon lets out a low sad chuckle before shaking his head. " Do you think Gramps would trust anyone but a former in-hab-ee-tant to guard this here village?"

You open you mouth to reply then stop short. How Gramps had treated those from outside the village comes to mind, and you take a second to think over how that might apply to his question.

"Aaaah. I-I get it"

Sorcerymon gives a small shrug at that, then after a few seconds looks down towards your bag.

"Hmm. Ah don't suppose you'd want another lesson?"

Not seeing any reason to refuse and thinking it might be a good way to get your mind off the recent drama, agree.

[X] Thresh, because of how you've seen the little digimon tear his food apart.
I will still call him Bread-kun in my heart.

[X] Endurance Focus (3 Endurance, 1 Agility, 1 strength)
I still want Endurance to break 90.

Biting actually is a combat skill in games like Dwarf Fortress, and if you play as a species with big jaws like a crocodile man and get that skill to legendary, I am sure you could bite most things in half very easily.

So Jyarimon is specing right, I think. Keep power-leveling that bite skill my little friend, and the big bad will be reduced to an angry, flailing torso in no time.

This brings us to the very last week of the prologue. There are two "Mini Arcs" left before we get to the festival. Plus another day to get through, the last dream, a final story, and a three day timeskip.

So roughly.... 8-10 updates left I think.

Oh nooo what dastardly plans do you have in mind.. plz no generic "and then every1 dies welcome to revenge quest"

The whole protect lunamon and now little brother thing is setting off my death flags.

And Woodmon was trying to say his boss is even scarier....

Fun Fact: Thresh is a word here's it's Google definition: Separate grain from (a plant), typically with a flail or by the action of a revolving mechanism.
"machinery that can reap and thresh corn in the same process"

Kek.

Bah, I like to think I'm not that shallow a writer and planner. Ending the prologue with "lol everyone but Verge dies" would be a waste so far as the characters are concerned. Plus, killing them off purely for the sake of drama and to get a rise would be an insult to the players who are at this presumably at least somewhat invested in them.

I can't say much beyond that for fear of accidentally spoiling stuff.

Mainly because in hindsight, it's... a notch more fitting than Varm. And it has a sort of drill like meaning as well. So yeah...

Also, nice tibbit from Sorcerymon's origins.

This is our niche, we should take it farther.

Edit: Also, Drexal, I don't think you actually mentioned what the kid's new species is in the update.

Indeed I didn't. (It was actually intentional)

Hehehe. Technically speaking so far as I know BlackGigimon doesn't technically exist. Couldn't find a picture of it anyway, so I had to get some help to make it. I was very pleased with the result.
