[X] Auger and Fu are once again joining up, so maybe you could help them?

Auger will not be able to tank pickaxes half as well as clubs, we should be by his side to make sure he doesn't straight up die.

It is true that the pick-axes are more along the lines of armor piercing almost like Verge's drills.

Hmm, the recent post from Ironforge has gotten me thinking. In the next update would you guys like Verg to try and talk with Gnaw on the way back?
You know, the more we do this the more I keep thinking our mon Verge might end being the heart of this party/group.
Huh, I never thought of it that way but....strangely enough it kinda fits.

[X] Try and stay beside Flamemon during the upcoming battle.
[X] Stay with Gnaw and try to show you have his back as a friend. Even if he scares you shitless sometimes and is mean.

I would of course be fine with that if we get the choice.

Well you have kind of made it pretty clear narratively that each mon fill in for certain aspects and flaws. So it was kind of expected really that Verge would end up filling out into one kind of role or another.

Something I'm going to mention is that of the Moralities being displayed here right now are in part more widespread in the digital world as a whole. Flamemon and his opinion whilst not common is present in some parts, while Gnaws more not really caring that much outlook is by far the most common.

In a way each mon is at one side of things with Flamemon being very black and white, with what one could consider a very naive view on things. Gnaw is more strictly practical and doesn't much care about the lives of other digimon unless they're directly associated with himself.

Gramps own opinion about not liking it, but being willing to bring the lighting down if necessary is very widespread by *normal* digimon in cities and towns.

As for Verge, as a character he very much is a digimon who's opinion can potentially be milder depending on the events here in the prologue, who he interacts with and the choices made. Currently he has deleted a digimon, which when combined with his reaction to Gnaws choices has put him more into the grey area.

We'll see how he develops as the prologue continues.

I like Gnaw. He cares about the people close to him, even if he doesn't show it much personality wise. He is also respectful to Gramps as well, listening and doing what he says. Still a grumpy sod whenever it happens though.

I also want to see where his ruthless views on the digital world actually come from, with how he lives in the village like the rest of the cast. He acts like how I would imagine a wild digimon to be, protective of any close to him and deadly to the ones that aren't.

A lot of that has to do with his species actually. Well that and a bit of Fanon/GM leeway.

As a Blackgabumon he naturally has a kind of *pack instinct* as a lot of the time they end up forming groups together.

Beyond that as a Virus type digimon he's naturally inclined to be act in a....well more brutal *evil* manner. He's also picked up a few more gruff attitudes from Gramps.

While that's not the whole story. It's all that I'm currently willing to divulge at the moment.

The mineshaft that the Goblimon have taken over is close enough, less than a hundred meters meters away. A veritable mountain of stone is piled up a dozen meters away from the entrance, showing just how much progress the rookies have made in the last week. Various rookies all of the same shade of green hurry in and out of the hole, many carrying the strange tools while others move sacks filled to the brim with various materials. Some look to be full of that strange crystal you'd found last weak, though other bags just look to be filled with rocks. The grumbling digimon carry these sacks several meters out, up a small makeshift stairway, then haphazardly toss them down into a gigantic large wooden box standing outside the entrance. You have no idea how they could possibly hope to move such a thing once it's full, as you estimate that it's weight would far outstrip even the strength of fifty Goblimon much less two dozen. That fact alone sends a chill down your spine, as it must mean that they somehow have another way of moving it.

As your party begins to disperse into their own small groups with Fu leaping atop Augers back and Flamemon sidling up beside Gramps, you find yourself scurrying over to stand beside Gnaw. To be honest you find yourself still more than a little worried about the Blackgabumons condition. Between his injuries from taking on four Goblimon at once and the recent near-scuffle with Flamemon he looks more angry and bitter than ever. Sure the virus-type digimon is mean and more than a little scary at times but.... you know that he does care about the others. Leaving him in solitude now just wouldn't sit right with you. When you draw close enough the reptile digimons left ear cocks to the side as if discerning something, then a moment later he begins to speak.

"Hmph, you here to lecture me too?" Gnaw growls, turning his head to glare down at you.

"N-no. I'm not here for well-ah. That." As the taller rookie tilts his head in confusion you take a nervous swallow, then continue. "I-ah. I wanted to see if you were.... okay"

"Ha! Okay?!" He chuckles, all traces of anger flowing away from his tone. "I'm okay. Flamemon's still a pain, but that's nothing new." Gnaw grumbles. reaching over and lightly pats the fur on your head. "He really is soft. Bah, thanks for the concern Verge, but save your worries I'm tough...." Gnaw trails off a second, clearly thinking over what to say next. ".. I'm-"*Cough* "-Glad that you helped me. It's good to know you'll have my back." Gnaw's frown briefly flips into a warm smile as he shakes his head. "You're not a total coward"

"Oh. Uh, th-thanks Gnaw, I, uh-"

"Shut it. They've seen us" Gnaw barks, turning back towards the small mine.

Oh...OH! They're-it's. Okay Verge get ready!

While you'd been speaking with Gnaw the enemy rookies had indeed seen your group and were even now lining up in front of the small mountain. They wait just long enough for a few stragglers to pour out from the inside of the tunnel before letting out a collective battlecry and charging forth. What little discipline they had before vanishes in an instant, as each rookie strives to be the first one to attack your much smaller group. A number of fireballs are tossed out towards the party, but not a single one of them is thrown with enough accuracy to have even a chance of hitting you.

You slink down as the mass of enemies, charges wanting nothing more than to turn tail and sprint away at top speed, however you barely manage to hold on standing your ground as they get closer and closer. Gramps is the first member of the village to move, confidently hopping forward at the mass of Goblimon without a single trace of fear. Electricity begins arcing around the scarred Elecmon clearly building up for some sort of technique. Gramps takes a deep breath, then with a cry leaps high up into the air.

"Lightning Knife!"

In your time alive in the digital world, you'd seen a few displays of power. Such as Flamemon defeating Goblimon with a single blow and that dark green rookie casually defeating Auger. But Gramps? He makes both displays look like pure childsplay. Exactly twelve bolts arc down towards the mass of charging Goblimon and not a single one of them misses. Each one of the small bolts hit a specific target, zapping a full half the green rookies with enough force that they blacken and fitfully collapse. In just a single moment a full half of them have been defeated, and as Gramps lands back on the ground he doesn't look the least bit tired. Your jaw drops open in shocked amazement, fear monetarily washed away by the pure spectacle of what had just occurred.

"Bwehehe. Glad I didn't push things with Gramps"

The remaining half lose their momentum almost entirely stumbling to a near halt as they try to comprehend what the Scarred Elecmon had just done. In turn this leave Flamemon the perfect opportunity to dash in from the left and deck the closest surviving Goblimon right in the face. He doesn't stop there however, bobbing and weaving down the line as he dodges clubs and begins to strike down other unfortunate rookies. Gnaw makes the next move dashing towards the right side on all fours, and tackling two of them off of their feet. You try your best to scamper along after the wounded Blackgabumon only to find yourself blocked off by one of the remaining wild-eyed Goblimon. The last six of them make a terrified rush straight towards Fu & Auger hoping for an easy escape. Though you don't get to see what occurs therafter given your own situation.

In the first opening seconds of combat you quickly learn two things. First off, this *miner* Goblimon is far tougher than the mon you'd first fought, barely stumbling when your first Mach Jab hits him square in the face. The second is that his weapon is very different from a simple club. When you attempt to block his retaliatory, only for the tip to carve a painful furrow down your arm.

Argh

The next few moments turn into a desperate, terrifying battle as you desperately try to retreat and deflect his blows simultaneously, not that it does you much good. A dozen more shallow gashes are torn across your chest and arms over the following seconds culminating with a final strike that blows past your guard, letting him lodge the weapon deep into your shoulder. The pain sends stars shooting across your vision and it only gets worse as the Goblimon struggles to pull his makeshift weapon out of your body.

Fury rises up the pain, painting the blackness a deep shade of red. The Goblimon lets go of his weapon and stumbles back in surprise as you let out an angry roar.

"Drill Spin!"

The green rookie screams as your drill tears into his shoulder, boring through his digital flesh before tearing out the other side. Your rapidly spinning claws come in a moment later, heightening his screams even further as you tear into his chest. In that moment you come so close to just pushing in a little further, and deleting him, but then but something snaps and you rip free from the heavily wounded Goblimon leaving him alive if only barely. The wrath you'd felt lifts away, leaving you frightened and whimpering from the pain.

"Verge!" A very concerned Gnaw appears in front of you his paws reaching up towards the weapon embedded in your frame. "Spirits above" He mumbles, stealing one of Gramps phrases. "Just hold on" There's another flash of pain as he rips the Goblimons weapon out of your shoulder. You try not to scream, but fail crying out from the sudden bout of world-shattering pain. Darkness calls once again as you fall towards the ground but the Blackgabumon catches you. Quickly he presses something against the wound on your shoulder stopping the flow of data leaking from the wound. The big rookie carefully helps you down to a more comfortable position allowing you to see the last few Goblimon by Fu and a battered looking Auger stand toss down their weapons and kneel down in surrender. For an odd reason you can't describe, a sense of elation surges through you.

Your group had succeeded. They'd won against the Goblimon here!

With the Power of Soft Fur we will help Gnaw learn the art of Chill!

.....Even if Verge himself doesn't know how to Chill.
