Fu's suggestion to simply try and get past what you'd done is a very tempting method of trying to run away from what happened, but... you don't that it's possible. Well at least not for you, the memory of what happened was too strong and you're sure that it'll never fade away. What had transpired yesterday, that which you'd done... killing another digimon in that way. It was a gut-wrenching event that even now haunted you, but a part of your mind wasn't sure that trying to get rid of it would be a good idea even if you could. That would just be fleeing from the event, almost as if you'd be ignoring what had happened, but you don't want to run. That is not an option if you're going to help Flamemon become a hero.

Instead you try think over what Fu had said about Gramps opinion. Trying to maybe embrace the memory and use it as a lesson. The screams, the feeling of your claws burrowing through flesh the repulsive feeling that rose up in your core afterwords. You do your best to commit every facet of it to heart. Of course, the thought of actively trying to remember deleting that Goblimon starts a figurative rebellion in your mind as it desperately attempts to stay away from the painful subject. However your commitment to Flamemon proves stronger, piercing through the chaotic swirl and pushing it aside as you make a solemn vow.

The Goblimons death had occurred simply because your mind had been overwhelmed by the absolute mess of your fear and devotion clashing, thus making you panic.

Never Again.

Your *mantra* so to speak continues on for quite some time as you simply repeat your final thoughts and the oath which came afterwords. Sparks proves to be the one knocks you out of your self-imposed trance, flying up onto your back and shouting for you to "Wake up"and "Come eat lunch with Big Bro"

Admittedly his terminology ends up being confusing at first, but as you open your eyes and follow the In-Training mon towards the cauldron it quickly becomes clear that the's referring to Flamemon. The three of you eat lunch together before Gramps calls for yet another assembly.

He wastes no time in mentioning that your party has a new target today, something they would have struck against yesterday if not for…. certain problems. While everyone there knows that the scarred Elecmon is referring to you, it's only Gnaw who takes this moment to send any sort of reaction your way. Namely a small glare that has you flinching away.

From there Gramps explains that considering what happened yesterday, the army of rookies should be more wary than before and that they might even be preparing more active defenses. The scarred old rookie tells everyone to keep an eye out for any patrols or traps laid by the encroaching Goblimon.

Next he outlines the specifics of todays attack, explaining that that are five lesser mineshafts spread out to the left and right of the main tunnel the Goblimon are working from. Your party is going to be attacking the very furthest group on the left, then returning back to the village for additional training.

Your group heads out shortly thereafter and you find it almost remarkable on how much easier it is to go through the gates compared to yesterday. While it's still more than a little nerve racking, the event doesn't prove to be the nearly crippling endeavor of the day before. Flamemon spends the time moving sticking by you and even though he doesn't say much his very presence alone is very comforting.

Roughly two hours into your journey through the woods, Gramps (Who's at the head of your group) pause for a moment, then whirls to the left. Naturally you follow his gaze, thus spotting eight green small green figures appearing out of the foliage. At first they look just as surprised as your group, but that quickly evolves into cruel grins as the group starts running towards your own.

Flamemon readies himself to jump in, but much to your surprise Gramps shouts for the powerful rookie to stay back with him. You're more than a little horrified by the caretakers proclamation, but as the eight digimon advance you don't get much time to think about it. Gnaw lets out a howl of happiness then starts sprinting forward, a few moments later he bowls two of the smaller rookies over then proceeds to get stuck in fighting another pair. With a four to one advantage already clear, the other half moves on from the brawl and quickly head towards the second biggest target. Auger.

The Armadillomon stands just in front of you, with Fu by his side. Both of them are clearly readying themselves for battle.

You take one last desperate look at Flamemon, (who gives you a confident thumbs up) then take a deep breathe and:

=== Choose One:

[] Advance up beside Auger. Together the two of you might be able to hold the four Goblimon off while Fu keeps her distance and attacks.
[] Hide underground for a few seconds and wait for the Goblimon to attack Auger. Then pop up and start attacking them while they're distracted.
[] Stay back and try to keep close to Flamemon and Gramps. Maybe they'll be willing to help if the Goblimon get too close?
[] Dig down and try to come up near Gnaw. You're scared of him yes but.... that's four enemies he's fighting alone. You don't want to risk losing him.
[] Write in.

Authors Note: Sorry for the relatively low update size. This one was mainly just to get from one point to the next. Combat should be pretty neat to write next turn though.

Gnaw is the second oldest and most experienced in the party, plus he's notably stronger than Auger, Fu and us he should be fine. It's better that the three weaker digimon learn how to work as a team and how to cover for each others weakness so that our stronger members can act more independently. Essentially, catching up to them in stats is going to be a gruelling process we might as well learn how to be the anvil to their hammer until a point where we are strong enough to match their actions in combat.

Hmm. Very nice and logical speculation. Always happy to see that.

Gramps is intentionally holding Flamemon just for this exact purpose.

I know that Gnaw could probably take care of himself, but I rather Verge be there as back up just in case Gnaw gets overwhelm.

I'll be doing a vote count now, though it won't actually close for a few hours yet. Update is going to be later tonight Edit: tomorrow.

If anyone checks the character sheet, they'll find that now Verge has major and minor goals.

Edit: Thanks to everyone that's voted so far.

2nd Edit: Used tonight to get my notes for this next week more in order. Sorry for the lack of update.

You take one last desperate look at Flamemon, (who gives you a confident thumbs up) then take a deep breathe and then immediately start digging down into the dirt. Earth easily parts way before your spinning nose and claws, and within seconds you've reached the bastion of safety only a tunnel can provide. Several surprised shouts along with a cry of "What?" emit from the surface but you do your best to ignore them in favour of tunneling. Leaving Fu and Auger to the Goblimon wasn't something you really wanted to do, but both Gramps and Flamemon are close enough to provide assistance should they need it. Besides, you've seen Auger in action before so you have faith that he shouldn't have much trouble holding out... or well, that's what you hope at least.

No who you're worried about is Gnaw, as strong as he may be the frightening rookie is up against four of the Goblimon all by himself. He may be strong, but you can't help but be worried about his safety. Like Fu he's your friend...sort of, and you don't want to lose him if you can help it. So with anxious energy you tunnel under the four rookies, and head towards the brawl Gnaw is fighting.

When you come up a few moments later, it's to the sight of your Blackgabumon companion blasting an enemy rookie point blank with a stream of blue fire. By the looks of things he's taken many a blow from the enemies attacks, his body burnt and covered in bruises. Not that the wounds seem to be effecting his compusre.

"Bwahaha! Burn!"

Another of the green digimon lays a couple feet away covered in scratch marks, leaving only two of the hostile rookies left. Quickly you pull yourself free from the ground and dash towards the nearest of the Goblimon just as it gets ready to strike your *friend* once more. With a high pitched war cry you slam into the green digimon, sending you both tumbling over. Gnaw takes this moment to leap away from the fight, gaining some distance from the fourth rookie.

Hurriedly you rise back up to your hind legs, and square off against the green digimon you'd previously knocked over. For a moment it looks like the other Goblimon is also going to attack you, but Gnaw pounces on the unfortunate mon, bearing him to the ground.

"Hahahaha! Good going" The large rookie cackles, finishing off the mon he'd jumped "Take care of that last one, I'll finish the rest!"

O-okay I-I can do this. Just... just remember what you've learned Verge.

With that your first real fight begins.

The Goblimon strikes, pushing off the ground and lunging towards you with frightening speed. His club whistles though the air, arcing wildly towards your side-

"Goblin Rush!"

-only for your right paw to swipe down and swipe his weapon away. Your recent training proves to be very valuable in the coming moments as you deflect and block a half dozen more of the speedy blows. A couple attacks from the flurry do manage to slip by, but you manage to stop the majority from hitting home. It leaves your arms understandably sore, but intercepting the attacks is far superior to just letting hit you.

As the green rookie takes a deep breath to recover from his onslaught you lumber forward, bring a paw back in the closest copy of a fist you can make then send it snapping forward.

"Mach Jab!"

Your right paw lashes down across the Goblimons face, battering it aside with the heavy blow. It's momentarily sent stumbling left nearly spinning fully around from the force of your attack, however the rookie doesn't go down, managing to plant his feet on the earth below and right himself. He goes right back on the offensive, and soon the two of you are trading blows once again though this time he's noticeably more wary not leaving himself so open to your attacks. The rookie proves surprisingly resilient actually blocking and dodging a few of your blows. Eventually this leads to a mutual trade with the Goblimon striking your gut, while you land a glancing blow on his shoulder.

Even as you struggle to fully regain your own balance, the Goblimon let's loose a whoop and leaps forward, weapon coming down in an overhead swing towards your skull.

*Thunk*

Silence reigns between the two of you for several moments as the Goblimon struggles to comprehend what had just happened. His wooden instrument had struck the tip of your drill and was now completely and utterly stuck there.

"Erm..." The Goblimon gazes up at you with a chagrined, slightly hopeful expression. "Maybe time out?"

"W-well uh....." You trail, not really knowing how to reply.

"Spirits above! Just hit him!"

Um-okay.

So you reach back, then simply sock the stuck rookie in the face with your left paw. This time, he doesn't get back up.

I won? Yes I won! Aha! Thank you Flamemon! Thank you Fu! Thank you Gramps! I did it!

With the opponent defeated you're able finally to look back upon Fu and Auger to see how they're fairing. Three of the attacking digimon are down, with one having been knocked back several feet while the other two are down amidst a spattering of seeds. Of your two companions, Fu seems more or less unharmed though Auger looks to have taken a bit of damage going by the slight cracks on his carapace. Neither of them are fighting now however, rather they're resting as someone else takes on the eighth foe.

Gnaw is fighting the very last Goblimon standing, though perhaps *fighting* isn't the best descriptor. Perhaps a more apt classification of events is that your friend is *playing* with the frightened rookie. Gnaw dances around the much slower foe, casually dodging the Goblimons club before striking shallowly with his claws.

You'd known that Gnaw was cruel and powerful, but watching him toy with the enemy like this... it made your stomach queasy. As the Goblimon gets weaker so too does it get more desperate stumbling about with wider more powerful swings. This only proves into the cackling Blackgabumons hands as he finds it all the more amusing.

Cuts pile up on the rookies green skin as it begins leaking more and more data. Finally the wildly swinging mon just collapses, lacking the strength to even stand. Gnaw hops atop the fallen foe and with a vicious grin, gets ready to finish the barely conscious Goblimon off.

Your eyes widen in horror as you realize what he's about to do.

But but before the reptile digimon can finish him off, Flamemon is there, a hand wrapped around Gnaws wrist. The older digimon snarls in anger, and attempts to rip his arm free but your best friends grip holds strong, keeping the Blackhabumons attack in check.

"Get off me" Gnaw growls his eyes narrowed into a deadly glare.

"No." Flamemon replies, his voice low and steady, "I won't let this happen Gnaw. We can't just delete other digimon it's wrong!" Gnaw snorts in reply before rolling his eyes.

"Wrong? Right? Blegh, you're just trying to force a stupid opinion on others"

"Gnaw we can't do this! Deleting a digimon takes away their everything. Any good they could do in the future, all of their experiences, their friendships. All that they could ever be" You hear his words and can't help but slump down in shame. "I won't let you do it."

The Blackgabumon simply growls again and raises his other hand up, not caring about Flamemons speech. He readies himself to attack the taller rookie...only to yet out a hell of pain as Fu hits his head with a seed, Flamemon meets a similar fate, letting go of Gnaw to rub the side of his own skull.

"By the Ten, Enough" Gramps shouts, hopping down between the weaker rookies. "Flamemon, don't touch him. Gnaw, we spoke of this."

"Alright Gramps."

"Hmph, fine"

The two digimon turn away from each other, ending the troubles...for now at least. You let the breath you'd been holding and sigh in relief, glad that the conflict is finally over. Over the next couple minutes Gramps proceeds to do his magic, waking up then threatening the various fallen Goblimon to the point where they're visibly shaking in fear. After that they flee away from the mountain, leaving your group free to continue onwards to the mine-shaft.

Upon arriving at the area, you're surprised to see that the *Workers* haven't collapsed the tunnel leading into the mountain but rather seem to be digging in there without any visible trouble. Dozens of the green rookies go in an out of the shaft, many carrying strange metal tools instead of their normal clubs. Gramps says that this time he'll be helping fight along with Flamemon, as you're going to need the firepower. He doesn't give any specific tactics, mostly just telling you all to stay away from him while he's fighting.

So. That was Verge's first real fight. And by real I mean one that didn't have his wrath procced or was him panicking with his eyes closed.

[X] Auger and Fu are once again joining up, so maybe you could help them?

I have an actual reason this time.

Flamemon is in top condition Augur's not.

You know after that, I kind of want to chill and talk with Gnaw. As he seems like he would be in a weird headspace right now and might be feeling like the lone mon out

Since 3 out of the 5 did more or less just get together to bring him down. Kind of makes me feel Gnaw might not feel like he belongs and that is effecting things here.

I like the write in. Is acceptable. And well, Gnaw clashes with Flamemon who's admittedly the more popular digimon around.
