If we ever want to build the Suez Canal, which we really really do, we need to keep our navy relevant.

Also, holy shit. The Syffrin nations are going to wake up after this crisis, look at our science and say 'Where the fuck did that come from?'.

We went from average level education and behind the curve on science to the most advanced land army tech, catching up on sea, super advanced on financial and medical science as well as getting a higher education and innovation score than most countries now.

Edit: Does anyone think it possible that our martial artist religious scholars that we sent out to set the syffrinites on fire way back in the lightening rounds left a lasting link between religiousness and violence in those cultures? Is there an action we can take to boost navel or millitary tech groups. I want to put some PW behind steamships of we can.

Navel drills maybe, spending temp navies to boost research?

Or in this case giving them hulls to try to retrofit with engines even if they expect to fail.

So, to get a Suez Canal up, from what I know, we need to basically:

1. All-the-Railroads between DC and Khemetri (and Kielmyr for that matter)
2. Cheap Steel and Steel Railroads (and/or Kielmyr assistance... though having Triple Crown invest in the project may be helpful even if its more expensive, since that means one more nation whom will have an interest in getting the canal done and stand against Sketch and others that try to scuttle the project)
3. Khemetri must secure and maintain control over one or both sides of the Gibratar Straights to prevent Sketch or other Syffryn naval power from pouring into the Med. Sea.
4. Extensive diplomacy to neutralize or distract other powers and bind allies closer to DC in preparation for the project.
5. Extensive spy networking to keep abreast of what the Sketch and others are up to.
 
Hot take: Is the other option, that is, letting Sketch have a minority share, an option here? Or at least a minor signatory.

Considering that AN has basically confirmed that the Sketch are about to rival us, I don't think they will want to get a share in one of our ventures.

Even their hyper mercenary capitalism only goes so far (I hope :V )
