Assuming you mean 'without signing up for a life of being very carefully watched over and unleashed only for the most important battles', it'd require you to demonstrate a great deal of good judgement and loyalty to the Empire.
Umm, is assisting allies of the Empire also taken into account or would that be considered as not being all that loyal to the Empire?

Because Mathilde should be able to murder something in any given phase. And I like guns. Just going to be honest.

Would you mind if I quoted this in the Useful Information threadmark?

Go ahead. Glad to share. Bear in mind, of course, this is talking about realism. Depending on how much expertise you have with martial arts, and the nature of Warhammer itself (not having been written by HEMA practitioners), this may or may not be the case in the universe you're writing about, and you may run into some challenges trying to reflect it alongside whatever is written into Warhammer canon.

Still, enjoy the info, and make use of it as you please.

Are you that person who does combat sports? I've heard of you from somewhere in this forum....

I'm far from the only one, but I am one of the HEMA practitioners on the forum, yes.

I'll consider voting "yes" here if the specific item we'd get switches to something actually useful.

[X] Have them help you teach your fast-growing familiar simple commands.
[X] Introduce him to the dwarven smiths so he can try to convince them to teach him.
[X] Have Ulthar handpick his best sharpshooters to be equipped with envenomed bolts.

Antimagic is something the dwarves are especially good at per word of GM, and the less we need to worry about magical defense, the more we can go on magical offense.

It's immediately useful in that we're going to be needed to deal with enemy wizards and shamans too. It will be further useful in the future as we wander into arcane situations.
Normally I'd say it's too specific if we were any other type, but not for a wizard.

@BoneyM

I'm imagining what a channeling/antimagic artifact might look like lore-wise.
Would something that selectively stilled everything but Ulgu (or whichever wind it was made for) be a reasonable interpretation?
(Not that I'm saying we should ask the Dwarves to make that specifically, just wondering if it would fit with your interpretation of the setting/be in the realm of possibility for what they might come up with)

@BoneyM

By the way, in the book Storm of Magic, that's where it's mentioned that Alaric harnessed the upsurge of Magic to create the Runefang.

Page 20:
"A Mighty Gift:
Alaric the Mad, one of the greatest of all Dwarf Runesmiths, captures the last eddies of a magical storm. Through potent runes, Alaric binds those vast energies into molten metal and begins to make the twelve Runefangs, the magical swords gifted to the Empire by the dwarfs."

To clarify, this is not the only Storm of Magic. I can give you a link to a site where you can easily download the book in PDF form if you want?

Let's make use of Panoramia - she can prepare not only potions, but also poisons.

[X] Have Ulthar handpick his best sharpshooters to be equipped with envenomed bolts.
[X] Barak Varr is a trading hub; go shopping with her and employ your good name among dwarves to see if there's seeds of anything useful to be found.
[X] Help Seija teach Esbern to Dispel.

Now for rune item...

[X] Yes
-[X] A Talisman
-[X] Protection/Antimagic
-[X] 15 Favors

A Talisman - staff is tempting, but Mathilde have only 2 hands, and can carry only so much on Shadowsteed.
15 favous - it's not excessive. It is called getting absolute top-tier equipment. We will not have two talismans at the same time. We will have one, so let's make it best we possibly could.
Protection/Antimagic - both are needed. Both are speciality of Dwarfs. Antimagic is effectively still protection - only extended to more esoteric elements. Not only in protect wielder against enemy spell, but it protects dwarfs against mess-up of mages.

Honestly, if I had to choose, I would choose Antimagic. Wizards can make other items for protection, Mathilde's robe being a prime example - but only dwarfs can create effective antimagic items.

[X] Many mercenaries look for work at Barak Varr among trades looking to make the long and dangerous trip to the east. See if any can be convinced to join the Expedition instead.

Esbern and Seija of the Amber Order
[X] Have them help you teach your fast-growing familiar simple commands.

Johann of the Gold Order
[X] Help him find a place with the dwarf artillery crews so that he can supplement their abilities in combat.

Panoramia of the Jade Order
[X] Barak Varr is a trading hub; go shopping with her and employ your good name among dwarves to see if there's seeds of anything useful to be found.

Perhaps the best thing we can do for the Journeymanlings is help them find a place in the army where they can contribute. The dwarfs are suspicious of magic; Mathilde has the prestige to smooth over difficulties.

[X] For the sake of your curiousity, sit in on some of the meetings between the two Kings.

[X] Yes
-[X] Greatsword
-[X] Killy
-[X] 15 favors

Three actions we can only do while in Barak Varr, and one that will pay dividends all the way to K8P if we run into trouble.
The chanelling/antimagic talisman being proposed strikes me as too unreliable to sink that much favours in, and I don't consider a talisman that just does antimagic as being worth the investment. We're rocking magic 7 here, we're a pretty capable dispeller by ourselves, ideally we should spend the favours on something we can't get otherwise. We can cast all our known spells reliably, and battle magic is a very far ways off, asking for a talisman now to counteract the miscasts of spells we might learn at some point far in the future seems like a waste.

On the other hand, a greatsword forged by Kragg would be an invaluable boon in any combat situation and we know for certain what the result will be when we ask for a weapon that can murder very well. We will get a weapon that can murder very well.

Stilling the winds of magic would take a lot of power and, if held for too long, could cause nasty side-effects. Something that drove away other winds would be easier, since the Winds by their nature are prone to flow to places attuned to them, so making somewhere specifically not attuned to most Winds of magic would cause them to naturally flow away and give trouble to users of other Winds.

That would be great, the entirely legitimate version of the book I've got is missing everything but the rules.

And IMO the must-pick:

[X] Help Seija teach Esbern to Dispel.

We want to ensure every Wizard and WItch in here knows their dispels like their fingers. 6 Wizards and a Runelord are a decent set, but we never know what we will run into.

[X] Yes
- [X] Collar for wolf
- [X] Protection
- [X] 10 favours

Listen, the doggo is precious and yet not equipped for the dwarf hold exploration. Any skaven can shank it right now. We may want to change it.

Anyways, I'm interested in getting the best we can out of this, and dwarves do antimagic really well. The less we have to handle that personally or the easier it is, the more we can use Magic in battle for other purposes.

And think: are we, a wizard, really not going to get involved in arcane situations in the future?

That's where the antimagic will come in handy.
