Keep in mind that Grey Wizard plus two amber wizards opens up options like sneaking into enemy encampments, and enraging the enemy monster units who'll cause a ruckus, but it is certainly less useful in outright combat than leading the Stirlander troops if we're aiming to participate in that field while not being a battle wizard.
Pall of Darkness + the Amber berserk spell is hilarious on enemy monstrous units...

I personally thought of this as the Halfling political leadership trying to find some way of getting rid of an inconveniently victorious army. This would be a means of removing disruptive elements of the population and preventing a victorious general from returning to seize political power.
Watch as they end up earning enough gold that they settle for just take a chest full of it because the cost to transport, and guard it would be ruinous.

The only vote I care about is talking to the dwarf ranger captain. I'm going to wait till morning so I can read the discussion before deciding the rest.

As for the voting, I have zero idea what those wizards can do; all I know is Amber = Beasts, Gold = Metal. Beyond 'attach the Amber wizards to units with monstrous mounts', I dunno what we'd do with 'em, so I'm leaning towards accepting command of the Stirland forces.
Amber wizards can do the following potentially useful things at the journeyman level:
  • Instantly break the will of an animal of a type which can be domesticated
  • Heal animals
  • Panic small groups of enemies, but not as well as we can
  • Buff themselves
  • Shapeshift into a wolf, raven, or horse
  • Rally fleeing allies within 48 yards (probably the most important application for them in mass battles, particularly where enemies might deploy fear effects)
  • Talk to animals
  • Command animals briefly

Gold wizards can do the following potentially useful things at the journeyman level:
  • Debuff enemies
  • Buff themselves
  • Divine things about mundane items
  • Craft and break items
  • Shoot enemies (2-3 per round, about as good as several crossbowmen)
  • Give nearby allies rerolls

Bear in mind, however, that for most of her Journeyman career Mathilde knew very, very few spells. These guys could know ~2 spells or more like ~10 depending upon how far into their journeyman period they are, and miscast is almost certainly a serious risk for a good chunk of their known spell list.

So what the hell's going on up in Middenland and Nordland? And the Cult of Ulric for that matter?
Let's spend some time with the Ulricans and find out.

If you want to spend time with our wolf, there might be some synergy in combining that with socialising the Winter Wolves. After all, they might actually be able to tell us how to care for a little wolf pup.

On the one hand, it sounds like the (VAST HORDE OF) Stirlanders could use a bit of leadership, or just a figurehead.

But on the other hand, wizards. Whom Dwarves mistrust in general.

From what I can gather via skimming, Gold Wizards are strongly materialistic, and very fond of shinies.
Amber Wizards, meanwhile, are basically anarcho-tribalistists who live out the wilderness, and don't care about ridiculous civilized trappings like "money".
...I suspect that trying to get them to do anything, especially together, will mostly result in headaches.

Many, many headaches.

Still, if we work with the wizards, we can (probably?) attach our small troupe to any of the larger army groups who could use help. If we go with the Stirlanders, the wizards will likely do their own thing; probably not very effectively.

It'll be a learning experience, I'm sure.

Hi guys. I like your... bling... and raw leathers. Um. Sorry, my diplo is terrible.

If the Dwarfholds rolled poorly, it sounds like they could use a few rerolls. And Mathilde happens to specialize in delivering messages speedily and reliably.

Bring some more cannons, please. We like cannons.

My thought was that it was a political play. By showing how the Moot repeatedly contributes to the good of the empire they seek to curb Stirland revanchism. Whenever the current Stirland Elector Count or nobles turn their eyes towards the Moot they can ask why they turn against one of the empire strongest allies instead of purging Sylvania, particularly after the previous Stirland campaign which broke the greatest vampire stronghold in Sylvania.

Hey guys do we have any idea what's going up in Middenland and Nordland?

I think there's supposed to be some lost dwarf hold that fell to chaos or something in the Middle Mountains, which lie in both the problem provinces. Perhaps some ancient evil awoke in the mountains and is causing the problems, but poor rolls resulted in Nordland and Middenland pointing fingers at each other.

That, or Skaven.

Guys the best use of our time would be to deliver messages and getting more support for the expedition.

Even a hundred more dwarves coming would be more useful then trying for the familiar bond which isn't guaranteed to form right now.

Makes sense to me. Let's herd some kids, and handle the manling magic contribution. Since we are going into the wastes, the beast wizards are likely to be more important to start with, we want our familiar attempts to start ASAP and we need more cannon for this to work. Let's give it a whirl.

Maybe, but there aren't many human settlements in the Middle Mountains because of all the monsters. And that wouldn't cause a simultaneous schism within the Cult of Ulric (assuming that the two events are linked of course).

The conflict seems to be near the old Drakwald Forest.

Could the Ulrican Cult be killing Nordlanders?

There are several competent human military forces in the expedition anyone of which could provide a competent leader, maybe not as good as us but considering that we have several knightly orders along we're hardly lacking in skilled soldiers. We are however the only magister along making us the only one qualified to lead the magical contingent. It's also worth noting that I simply do not want to play as a general I'd like to play as a wizard.
The campaign also only has one terrifying Stirland commander that reduced Drakenhof to rubble, whispered of in the dark night as being everywhere at once.

The Grand Theogonist and the Ar Ulric are having a power play, with Middenland and their allies backingthe Ar Ulric and Nordland and their allies backing the Grand Theogonist.
Last we heard it was practically a religious civil war

To the point that the knights dedicated to Ulric just left Middenland in disgust. To the point that the Grand Theogonist refused to send any assistance to striking at the heart of vampire power as a Sigmarite.

There may be something involved with the Queen and her involvement in a conspiracy...but it smells sort of like a very nearly typical Lahmian plot if you were shadowrunning
