And if they are anything like modern students, they have no sense of self-preservation and will get inside the largest concentration of dhar they can find just because if you give them half a chance.

Replace "dhar" with "radiation" and I'm speaking from experience.
So what you're saying is that getting an Apprentice means we get a free Dhar locator, and we don't have to push them towards studying forbidden arts if we need to?

... Maybe I should expand my previous vote.

That... does match my experience, yes.

An unrelated question: how many apprentices can we loose before the Grey Order starts asking us uncomfortable questions?

Thus continuing the Quest's tradition of critfails insta-killing minor characters.
I think that was Karl Franz who just got offed, that's not really a minor character.

Honestly Mathilde is kind of a terror to be around, whenever she rolls a 1 someone important dies an anticlimactic death

Those shyish-kebabs really should be turned over to the Amethyst Order.
I'd like to give at least a few of them over, we've got plenty of the things and it's not like we need all of them.

So i was thinking about Hexensohn as a result of our latest crit-death, and had 2 thoughs
-does the amethyst order have a new patriarch?
-What's our patriarch like? And apparently

Tome of Sorcery said:
Starke is ruthless in his dealings with those he sees as the enemies of the Empire and is prepared to sanction almost any means to ensure what he sees as the protection of the Empire. In the more backward country districts he is sometimes mistaken for a Witch Hunter and yet at other times a warlock. If he finds himself in a village or noble household where the people don't seem properly devoted to Sigmar (something he sees as one of the most important unifying factors of the Empire), Starke thinks nothing of taking steps to restore their faith, using intimidation, lecture, and of course. magic. Needless to say, visits to the Temples of Sigmar increase once Starke has passed through the area.

Note to self, discussions of politics with the Patriarch are to be avoided.

So, everyone voting for College Branch... What's up?

Why does this need to be done now? You are killing every ambition of adventuring and research for the next fourty turns.

We are a gunslinging, swordfighting wizard. Seems like a shame to never adventure for real.

Not to mention Mathilde is a baby magister. Not the kind of person that opens up magic colleges.

We don't have the time to waste on something that the Colleges know about and consider 'interesting but not important'.

Before we had our unique magic juice the shyish-kebabs were all we had and thus worth looking into if we ever found the time.
Before we got our first edition tome of forbidden law the shyish-kebabs were low priority but something to get around to.
Now they simply are not worth our time.

By the way, did we ever decide what heraldry House Weber uses?
If not then might I suggest this with grey for the shield and a pithy motto?

Yes. It's on the sheet. Blazon: Sable, bend argent, sword argent bendwise inverted, base dexter serpent supine vert and or.

Edit: To clarify, in common English that means "Black background, grey diagonal stripe, grey sword diagonal the opposite direction, on the bottom facing left a yellow and green snake lying flat."
Some renders of the heraldry have the sword decapitating the snake, but that's not the sort of thing one can officially put in heraldic language.

This doesn't need to be done now, but there are a number of reasons that it's better done sooner than later:
  • As this is establishing an institution, the earlier we start it the more time it'll have to grow through the scope of the quest. Moving beyond the two-magisters-and-a-half-dozen-apprentices stage might take a few years.
  • Our deeds in taking out Drakenhof are still fairly fresh in others' minds. If we're going to enter into politics doing so when we still have some of that war hero shine is a solid play; if we go off wandering and killing things first, we'll be yesterday's news.
  • The new Elector Countess has a desperate need for money and a lot of uninhabited land that she's selling- but hasn't sold off yet. If there was ever a time that a prejudiced ruler could be convinced to hand over land to a bunch of wizards, it's when they can offer something she really wants and all they're asking is to go live away from other people- and some of that middle-of-nowhere land might be just what we need, if the Valley of the Singing King really is rich in ulgu as implied by @BoneyM earlier. If we wait the land will be occupied and the Elector Countess will be better off.
  • Wandering off to kill things independently as a magister is basically doing so for personal amusement, reputation, and development. It's self-indulgent. Establishing a College branch is a statement that we're devoting ourselves to a larger cause- and that kind of thing has a lot of attraction over being an independent contractor to someone else.
Side note, it doesn't actually kill all ambitions of adventuring or research; research will still be faster than, say, becoming a mercenary since we'll be building an environment suited for magical academics, and part of building a College branch will involve building its reputation. That means running around Stirland and related areas being highly visible and helpful, which will almost certainly involve a fair bit of killing gribblies. Just not as much as if we choose a "spend the next five years murdering things" option.

The thing about going of adventuring is that however exciting it is it isn't actually very helpful. As a grey wizard the 2 primary methods we can positively influence the world are research and intrigue things that we can do far more ably in a Branch college. There is also the fact that I don't want to run around being a murderhobo, it's a waste of our time and potential and doesn't make use of our skills very much. The fact that I really really want to do our research is also rather important.

We simply are not remotely qualified for that. That's problem number one: we don't even meet the prerequisites.

It will essentially take up the entirety of our lives for decades to come.

And the college seems to accept "adventuring" as a valid way of serving the Empire. A wizard is a tremendous force multipler.

Of it means a few thousand more dwarves will live, or the reclamaríamos one of the most important holds of their history will come by that much quicker, it is a tremendous boon for mankind.

Furthermore, its one of the best ways to hone our skills.

That's in the future. Starke probably isn't born yet. We might see him as a snot nosed apprentice when we're middle aged and crabby.

That's the thing though we aren't a battle wizard nor are we a wizard from a college that's particularly great on the battlefield. Sure we'll be helpful but we'd be much more useful as a spy, assassin or anything else focused on intrigue. Things might be different if we'd developed some of those fog of war based spells we potentially have access to but we haven't yet.
