I don't care about starting a family in fact I'm very strongly against it, but I've had enough of our research opportunities being put off. I want to take the time to figure out whats up with them.

Hey all, long time reader just thought I would throw a vote out cause I love this quest and it's updates.

[x] Seeking adventure as a mercenary, ideally with Asarnil the Dragonlord, and possibly build a Mercenary Company of your own.

Elf-Dragon waifu... anyone?

[x] Interrogation
[x] Research and Development (thaumaturgical) (ie. stuff derived from Shyish-Kebabs and Qhaysh juice)
[x] Research and Cataloguing (biological)
[x] Being available to investigate reports of unsanctioned magic-users.
[x] Being available to intervene in matters of great import as needed

Also let's get an apprentice to love and adore but who will die violently next to us as the Curse demands (Rip Abelhelm)
 
Even if we go off on adventure, we'll still have time to do some of our research. We had time during the Purge to do non-Purge stuff; we don't need to open a branch college to spend a single action or two each turn looking into the Snake Juice or cracking open the big book. Plus, we won't have nearly as much administrative stuff to do anymore, so we'll have less distractions from our research than we're used to.

Hearing about Dwarf Vietname send shivers down my spine. Hence, as interesting as it is, I felt it'll better for either a smaller scale campaign or a different time, since I want to see Mat trying to make a family first.

I do not think that Asarnil is going to hook up with Mat. We got a sensible QM for this quest who uses common sense, logic and realistic consequences.

-Spend some money on the estate
-Spend some time with Anton
-Fold gong farmers and factories into EIC.
Actions:
-Bid farewell to everyone you hold dear
-Establish a gunpowder factory
-Sell both niter and gunpowder to Stirland
-Snake juice
-Your experience with the so-called Fog of War has given you a lot of ideas for new applications of Ulgu. Investigate them to see what might be possible
-Familiar: You'll have a cat, damn it. Spend time with the alley cats of Wurtbad and see what you can find. (low chance)

They've been awaiting a poke for eight years. And they won't keep forever now that they've been taken out of the tomb. If the option for Thaumaturgical Research and Development doesn't win the current vote (it's doing fairly well) followed by immediate research, I think those death swords are going to wind up a lesson in the folly of empty promises. "I'll get around to that", indeed.

I do feel it's throughly unfair to judge this quest on another's merits.
I agree with your assertion, but I object to the context, as Asael wasn't judging the quest.

While I too am a bit miffed that one of my liked options get smeared, "I'll vote for something else because I've seen something similar to this in a different Quest" is a pretty usual way of voting. And it's not like Dynasty of Dynamic Alcoholism is a small-time Quest on SV.

Because it's such a good idea to get an apprentice while we study the local eqvivalent of Necronomicon.
 
I don't have a vote for the open-ended exam question. I always choke on those. I don't trust my own judgement on what sounds good.

I like this the most. Keeps us a decent ride from home and the Estate, keeps us out of the new Countess's hair for the most part, and is still close enough to everything we've spent time building up that we can retain our influence, friends and connections. It also gives Mathilde a good excuse for suddenly understanding Necromancy unnervingly well (via the Liber Mortis, a fact we will tell no one).

[X] Enchantment Services (payment in College rep)
Going for more money will set off red flags in the Order, but rep would be useful.

Shadow horse is good for fast response time, even if we do end up out in the boonies.
 
My business/network to do list for next turn:

Wurtbad
Sell a load of saltpeter for working capital
Arm and train gong farmers with dwarf support
Build state of the art powder mill with dwarf support
Fold the powder mill but not gong farming and nitre works into EIC cancelling our debt.
- Future nitre profits go to expanding and maintaining gong farmers and intelligence ops slush fund.
Look for suitable manager.

Estate
Make improvements - viticulture, lime(stone) quarry, soil improvement etc.
Hire spellcasting Shallyan and/or Rhyan priests and build small temples - this both makes our village more of a center for local trade and gives us a respectable religious presence as a shrine to Ranald won't keep the witch hunters away.
A nice, fortified manor house suitable for a branch office (because who wants to live in a keep?)
- EIC and estate income go to estate improvements and college business.

Would be mighty fine if she was, at least we would have an excellent idea about her location. Apprentices are like gas: they get absolutely everywhere unless you go to extreme lengths to prevent it, and often even in that case.

And if they are anything like modern students, they have no sense of self-preservation and will get inside the largest concentration of dhar they can find just because if you give them half a chance.

Replace "dhar" with "radiation" and I'm speaking from experience.
