These are all really cool. 110% behind not trying to retake a dwarf hold in general, but these in particular are really neat.

I don't expect the Second Coming option to win, but I remain hopeful enough to hope that I can do approval voting. With the Sylvania one and our Fog trait, going into that shrouded hellhole to poke at things at see what makes it tick... man that'd be cool. And setting up a branch campus in and near an area infamous for foggy weather and hidden secrets? That's just gravy.

[X] Enchantment Services
[X] Lectures and Demonstrations

Enchanting commissions and services let us gain practical experience doing things we might not otherwise think of. Lectures would be a good way to disseminate what we learn on our own. R&D ties in nicely with Lectures and advancing our knowledge in general. Interrogation, Intervention, and Investigating unsanctioned magic are basically legally mandated, but I think we could actually make helpful contributions when they're needed.

If we break the law, our Master is held responsible. Same would apply if we took on an apprentice and they fell to Chaos or Necromancy etc. It'd officially be our fault in the eyes of everyone else.

Realms of Sorcery also says an interesting thing - Magister's responsibility for apprentice doesn't wholly end even after apprentice becomes a Magister himself. Basically it goes like this:

Younger Magister does something really horrible and public.
Colleges execute him, but need a scapegoat to deflect questions like "why did you teach him so badly that he did this horrible thing?"
Colleges dig out older Magister, who taught the younger one, says to public "it's his fault!" and exile him to Marienburg or wherever.
Then they turn to Magister and say "well, you are officially exiled, but we know that you aren't actually guilty of anything, so you have our unofficial support and resources"

Uh. I would have said that "become the college dean" does not imply "exploit your subordinates for everything they're worth and then fuck off without actually doing the dean's job".

Maybe I don't understand academia.
So we'll be overseeing staff selection, allocating funding, ensuring we have enough students, dealing with teacher complaints, dealing with the neighbors complaints, choosing academic programs, purchasing needed materials, etc.

Alas my dreams of firing cannons at goblin shamans are probably dead but dealing with feuding wizards and an aggravated Elector Countess should be a pretty amusing consolation prize.

I assume 'hand it over to another Magister to run' would be an option, just like for the Watch, Info network, Gong farmers or Niter factory, freeing us to do other stuff.

So how are we in the Gandalf Comparison Scale? 'Cuz we are building our own Hogwarts School of Ninjas and Wizardry

I'm not sure Gandalf ever cast a spell capable of making you a prisoner in your own body for days on end, unable to move or speak, slowly dying of thirst and hunger, unless you asphyxiate first.

So... we're well ahead on Disturbing Magic?

You know, the underground palace while not full of Ulgu could potentially be a great place for a hidden wizard college. Probably a terrible idea to be fair, coz it'd piss off the witch hunter who replaced us and his minion but a hidden palace in the city an elector count rules from? The shrine to Ranald probably makes it not the best spot as well.

@veekie Plan Collegiate Loyalties is now two contradictory plans because of your changes and cut-and-paste voters cutting and pasting plans from non-original plan posts. :)

"Gentlemen, BEHOLD!"

Or at least, that's why I wanted to vote for it.

Sooo... our new spells.

I have to ask:

Is this in fact as it sounds an absolutely terrifying multi-day Hold Person-slash-horrible-torture spell?
Obviously, what we need to do is engineer a mirrored version of this spell that makes a dead person look and act alive for a few days.

It can help with morale if someone important, like say an Elector Count, dies in the middle of a delicate operation...

If the branch of the College that we build is full of nothing but shut-ins who do research... what would be the point of having it at all? At that point we might as well just have everyone stay in Altdorf because they certainly have the best facilities possible at the place that Teclis and students designed and built.

No, establishing a branch of the College makes us inevitably a political and military actor on the scene of Stirland. A branch campus is a center of study, yes, but more than that it's a basically a command center from which wizards go forth and do wizardly things in the region. And if we're the one who built and runs it, then there will certainly be a lot of intrigue and diplomacy involved- because all those situations where we've been saying "the Colleges would back you if" or "the College wouldn't like it if" will then suddenly involve us acting as the speaker for the College.

Should be pretty great.

Doesn't look like it. If we choose to set up and run the branch college we will in fact be running the branch college and not delegating it and going off and doing other things.

This makes sense since the choice is what are you going to do for the next 5 years. We can't say, 'I'm going to be dealing with setting up a branch college' and then bugger off and and go to the Eight Peaks for an adventure after a year.

As such Darklight has convinced me to head off for adventure in the Eight Peaks since managing a college doesn't sound that interesting. I think adventuring with the dwarfs should be interesting and we'll be able to meet fellow seekers of fortune on the adventure. Also we now have the ability to enchant without tools so we can continue to work on enchanting no matter where we are.

I thought you were more in favour of a "I'll show you all what a True Ulgumancer can do! You called me Mad! Who's laughing now! Not you, Fog Shades! Nor you, Shadowretches of Weber! Certainly not you Abomimatrices! Hahahahaahaahahaaaaa!!" style of demonstration.

You know, what with the Practical trait and all. Then, maybe a small field trip through all the Counties of the Empire, to examine the value of armor in protecting against your own shadow when it reaches out to strangle and slice and substitute you with a hateful, twisted Shadowretch. The advanced class will observe first-hand whether material fortifications protect against roiling fog banks that strip away all memory and identity from a populace, using them to feed the creation of Fog Shades that hunt down the now helpless former possessors of the animating memories.

Obviously, what we need to do is engineer a mirrored version of this spell that makes a dead person look and act alive for a few days.

It can help with morale if someone important, like say an Elector Count, dies in the middle of a delicate operation...
You mean when the Mockery of Death spell you cast on the Elector Count to quiet her complaints and work undisturbed becomes less mocking and more actual?

Mathildes Abomimatrix Transmutation always was a challenging spell to cast without permanently damaging the subject. Weaving that miniature Warp Portal to sustain the Ulgumancy bound into the Mystical Matrix, seeded with a slice of bleeding Wisdom Asp antiflesh... A delicate operation.

——
Oh.
Ohhhh.
Fever dreams of a nightmare future aside, we can, right now, make Ulgu lenses, mirrors and suchlike, right? Boxes that let light in, stop it escaping?
So, in theory- like if we ever develop a full-fledged deathwish- we could make a Ulgu-based replacement for the Mirrorcatch box.

You know. To sustain the Abomimatrix with slices of Asp bleeding Warpstuff, of course.

I figured I'd do something different and answer the "assess level of dedication" question in the third person. If they're going to ask about Weber rather than "you", why not reply in the same way?

[x] Third Person Report A
-[x] Evidence suggests that Journeywoman Mathilde Weber has an exceptionally high level of dedication to the Empire foremost. Beyond the ties and duties mandated by the Articles of Magic, there is also her dutiful work in the service of Stirland, the Knighthood that she requested from the Elector Count thereof and received with due affirmation, and upon the death of said Elector Count, both her decision to continue and her thorough execution of his crusade against the vile undead. Weber has also built a good rapport with the Dwarfs, closest allies of the Empire, and shown a willingness to overcome personal prejudices in appealing to the Light College for aid against enemies of the Empire. Her contacts in Altdorf and Stirland provide further motivation for her to wish the continued health of the Empire, above and beyond the the normal ties of a human citizen that would naturally hope to live in a country populated by fellow humans speaking the same language. However, it must be noted that Weber is a worshipper of Ranald rather than Sigmar.
-[x] Weber's dedication to the Grey College is also solidly loyal but not as personally zealous. It took prodding from her Master to get her to return to the College from journeying, but when she did, she demonstrated high aptitude and appetite for learning. Weber also has the gratitude that might be expected of a Wizard towards her College: for tutoring, for safety, for social and legal protection, for credit, for other services provided.
-[x] Weber's dedication to humanity is as high as might reasonably be expected from a wizard of low birth. Despite near execution by paranoid peasants in her childhood, her battles in Sylvania speak of a woman willing to fight for the living against the dead. As with most humans, she is less than entirely self-sufficient and therefore to an extent dependent on the existence of a human society to acquire goods and services.

Since the knighthood ceremony was a hundred thousand words ago, reminder snippets of just what that 'due affirmation' was:
Anton Kiesinger said:
I am able to affirm that Mathilde Weber is a worthy lady whose achievements on the field of honour have been matched by her services to the Empire.
Abelhelm van Hal said:
Whereas Mathilde Weber has shown excellence in her feats on the field of honour, rendering high and noble service to the Empire in war and in peace, I am minded to elevate her to the rank of Knight.

Apart from that, let's try for:
[x] Seeking employ as an advisor to an Elector of the Empire.
[x] Seeking adventure in the Zhufbar expeditions into Karak Varn.
(let's not go Full Dwarf in eight peaks yet)
[x] Seeking adventure as a mercenary, ideally with Asarnil the Dragonlord, and possibly build a Mercenary Company of your own.
[x] Seeking knowledge by building a branch campus of the Grey College in Stirland, possibly on your estate.
[x] Seeking knowledge by investigating the phenomena and manifestations of Sylvania.

And let's do
[x] Enchantment Services (payment in College rep)
(but not Commissions)
[x] Interrogation
(Mathilde even has a particular trait for this)
[x] Research and Development (thaumaturgical) (ie. stuff derived from Shyish-Kebabs and Qhaysh juice)
[x] Being available to investigate reports of unsanctioned magic-users.
[x] Being available to intervene in matters of great import as needed

Not interested in the Grey College write-up, will leave that to others who are more talented at that sort of thing.

Enchantment! is always a good way to perfect our skills and earn goodies, I love the idea of us taking on Apprentices and think it'll be hilarious, R&D bc we want to do that anyways (and have been it off for far too long IMHO), and being available for both bc its totally what we would do.

As for Karak Eight Peaks and Karak Varn...I love working with Dwarves, and I think we could learn a lot there. At minimum we'll get VERY good at perfecting all of the spells on our now-expanded-a-LOT available spell list.
