Well why wouldn't we try to entice him... we probably have a reputation for collecting interesting people for the hell of it. Practically every month someone new shows up in our Keep.

Because she's seven or eight, basically useless, and an actual liability whose death, kidnapping, or unwilling trip to Hell while under our care could seriously jeopardize not only our alliance with the Royces, but our friendship with Waymar?

This is Waymars sister, I would say giving her a ribbon just for that would be okay, I mean senior party members such as Waymar are pretty much family, which by proxy makes her family, so by our bond with Waymar she's pretty much a cousin.

We gave Dany way more comparatively valuable gifts than a ribbon before she became a PC, this is Waymars sister, every bit as important to him as Dany is to us, considering how much Waymar has done for us, helping her as if she were our own family is only fair.

@Goldfish Your points would be like spikes hitting home if they came from practically anyone other than you. You've developed a streak wide reputation of pessimism when it comes to the utility of others, and then rapidly do a 180 when they've proven even moderately useful without thus far having been a liability.

Valaena wasn't any more useful to us until we invested in her first.

This expresses my thoughts on the matter pretty fully. We're not throwing money at this if we give her anything, we're investing. If you don't give someone the tools to grow, they never grow as much as they could, and often not at all. See Valaena and many others throughout the quest - the twins, Teana, Brom, hell, even Hermetia. Our baby PCs didn't grow from nothing. They had potential, but we gave them the ability to realise it.

This is the same.

Most of those you name are actually old enough to contribute and not limited in their actions by guardians who would prevent them from taking part in useful endeavors. Ysilla is so young and helpless that short of pulling a Dany, she won't be remotely useful to us for years.

  • [X] Plan More Diplomatic
-[X] "Your daughter would be as safe as any could hope to be in Sorcerer's Deep, Lord Royce. What's more, Ysilla would have the opportunity to learn the working of magics that would enable her to defend herself, should the need arise, if she possesses such potential."
-[X] "Would she be safer in the heart of my power rather than yours? I can not honestly say one way or another. While the Deep would be a great chance for her, my enemies are many. However, this would set her on a path where in a few years, she will no longer need protection and in the meantime, she will be under my aegis as if she was my own sister."

-[X] "Would she be safer in the heart of my power rather than yours? That I cannot honestly say, for while you lack the resources, magical and mundane, which I can call on at need, you are also unburdened by the threat of the many enemies who have set their sights upon me and mine."

Some investment take years to mature. They're often the most valuable. A focus on short term gain over long term sustainability is what makes empires crumble. It's a pittance of a sum, and there's no logical reason to balk at it when it will keep a potential Wizard (or whatever) safe, a well placed noble ally feeling secure, and Waymar happy with us. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if he brings up protections for his sister himself. It's what I'd expect from him.

I'm not really around today, since I'm out of state. Disguising Ysilla should be a no-brainer. Likely we can use a lesser ribbon at first and mundane obfuscation, and only shift to a greater one once we get more and we're not quite as caught in trying to play catch-up on the crafting list (buying some of the cheaper standard stuff that Leila can't make might become worth it at some point, like the anklets of transportation).

Give me one example of that happening?

And your version isn't just "more diplomatic" it also tries to deliberately sway his opinion, whereas mine is not only blunt, but neutral in that regard. I still think Yohn would favor my approach over yours.
It was specifically noted that your "blunt honesty" was seen as a major faux-pa in Lys.

Manderly didn't appreciate "blunt honesty" either.

It's a recurring theme that you can't stop being a condescending ass in diplomatic talks and the other side never appreciates it as you always claim.

I honestly don't remember how exactly those situations played out in regards to a plan I wrote winning, but I'm fairly certain I wasn't going for blunt honesty in our dealings in Lys. That was more likely me not caring if Burny's fanatics were offended, or the Red Priest.

As for Manderly, I seem to recall the thread in general being quite displeased with him. I doubt I was going for blunt honesty then, either.

Saying I tend toward being a condescending ass in diplomatic talks is surprisingly undiplomatic of you. I would go more with me trying to be blatantly offensive. When those plans of mine win, it's not because they are diplomatic, but because they reflect the current zeitgeist of the thread. And I'm fairly certain I've never claimed anyone except for Yohn would appreciate blunt honesty rather than overly flowery words which amount to the same thing.

Oh look! Another topic: We should make a shopping list of basic magic items in the Opaline Vault; bags of holding, stat boosters, earrings of the scout.

Also leave a gap in the turn plan so that either Rhaella dosen't go crazy when she realises Viserys' schedule, or for a mercenary contract with the Opaline Vault, followed by Shopping!!! :D

A Portable Hole of Gentle Repose is long overdue for Viserys. Like, months overdue. I'll be pushing to see it crafted next turn if we can manage.
