@everyone, we should probably write up an actual set of Speak with Dead questions to get the most out of this in the shortest amount of time. Viserys via Blood Wish can ask 7 questions.

1. Where is your base of operations?
2. Where are the mages you currently hold captive?
3. Where have you kept your greatest treasures?
4. What mortal or magical allies do you have?
5. What traps do you have in place?
6. What projects do you currently have active?
7. What contingencies do you have in the event of your death?

Thoughts? Suggestions?

I think Tor just asked the wrong divination questions, and that was why we were able to gank him. We were not looking for him, nor were we coming for him. We were already in Pentos this month, so if he divined why we were coming to Pentos, after having confirmed we'd be appearing in the city (to deal with spies and Illyrio, the guy who is known in certain circles as being unusually well informed), and then saw the hammer fall on Illyrio, he might have assumed that the danger was passed. We already came to Pentos this month, right? Surely we finished our business in the city and moved on, just as his divinations said.

And he was killed by Ser Richard, not us, so any divination trying to see if we'd kill him would say no.

All we did was skip the whole extradition process and this is Pentos where they didn't object to hard the last time we did this so precedent says its okay now too.
And this is why I was so flabbergasted about how they reacted to the Illyrio thing.

Because they did create a precedent for us to murder random citizens on just our word that they deserved it.

Well, we did give them a hefty bribe. Surely there wouldn't be a repeat. I'm sure there were lots of rumors that the upstart Illyrio was dabbling in all sorts of unsavory things, but someone from a refined lineage of Magisters who isn't poking dangerous stuff will be fine. Surely just fine.

*whistling in the dark intensifies*

Already included. ;) Tor's base of operations is where he keeps his captured casters.

@everyone, can you vote for my proposal so we don't miss the shot at the Treasure Map? We only have 24 hours before the spell is unusable.

But we wont be told, if he has killed and disposed of anyone if we only ask about his base and operations. Dead skulls can be pretty anal (petty) about wording. :sour:

Speaking of potions, @DragonParadox would an Arcanum with alchemy focus be able to take on apprentices to be thought the Alchemist – d20PFSRD ?

That did feel odd, I'm glad why it did has been stated... @DragonParadox... Just how scared of Viserys are (powerful) people in Pentos? Or how hated was Irrilo?

I was surprised we got to continue on without further delay there. And pleased.

Also, as a magic vampire feeding of hedge mages, would it be correct that Tor suppresses the advancement of magic stuff in his area by killing people while they are weak, or creatures before they can get established/reproduce/summon more?

A shame cousin Daero is not here to see this, he always had a bitter rivarly with Tor, and even warned us that he was not to be trusted from the very beginning.

Sorry, @Duesal, but I think we can wait to question the skull just a bit longer. We should still have time to catch the spy.

@DragonParadox How much longer until we were supposed to intercept the spy? Does Viserys think there is enough time to use the magic bedroll?

[X] Closely examine the body using Greater Arcane Sight, looking for any lingering magic. Dispel anything that remains, strip Tor's body of everything which holds a permanent enchantment, then behead the corpse.
-[X] Use Fireburst to cleanse the alley with flame, removing any visible blood or viscera.
-[X] Return to Sorcerer's Deep, with Richard carrying the body and Viserys carrying the head.
-[X] Once in Sorcerer's Deep, leave Tor's remains within range of the Hallow effect generated by the Keep's Heart Tree, set someone to watch over them until we return, then seek out Lya to heal our Charisma damage from using Blood Wish and to pass on the good news.
-[X] Rest using the magic bedroll to recover spells, then return to Pentos with Richard if there is still time to intercept the spy. If time is pressing, return to Pentos without using the bedroll.
-[X] While we rest, have Lya and Vee properly dispose of the remains, except for the skull and whatever is needed for use with a Create Treasure Map spell, and Dany will Dreamcast Speak with the Dead to ask the following questions.
--[X] Where is your base of operations?
--[X] Where are the mages you currently hold captive?

Fair.

Honestly, I think we just overestimated this guy's level. Like, by 5 or so. We figured he'd have been wildly successful with his power growth now that magic is everywhere but apparently he either played it very carefully or his class just isn't that good.

It's possible, but that doesn't mean he wasn't dangerous. According to the spells Viserys saw on him, Tor was using Heart of Earth, which is a 4th level spell. Anyone capable of casting 4th level spells can get lucky and kill something well above its typical weight class, if the dice favor them.

Oh! Considering that we found Daero while he was enthralled to a vampire, maybe the whole parallel between Tor and vampires is why he noticed?

Or maybe he just had sense.
Its possible, i always assumed It was simply his bardic instincts revealing the secrets of the narrative.

[X] goldfish

As long as we arrive before The mages expire, i do think we should catch the spy.

We need the body (well, skin) for the treasure map, why not make whole the corpse (if needed, he is probably in chunky bits), also, predigenesation will clean up the mess riser than fiery burst. Well, less noticeably than fire near an ally entrance.

Then just teleport the clean corpse back to SD, question it there, and we can deal easy enough if it spoteonusly gets up after we fix it but before we question it.

  • [X] Take the body and return to Sorcerer's Deep, you would not put it past Tor to set up contingencies in the event of his death
-[X] Take preventative measure just in case it comes back as an undead
-[X] Take the skull and set it aside to add to the Speak with Dead collection

-[X] Use the rest of the corpse for Create Treasure Map centered around the corresponding locations based on what you learn

His class is a variation on something from the same third party D&D book the Seeker comes from. It's called a Wine Drinker. the Wine is the blood of arcane casters... and outsiders... and just about anything powerful and/or magical. He got pretty hefty bonuses at the cost of effectively being a living vampire with all the issues that caused.
What's the book's name?

That's pretty neat.

Anyway, consensus.

@Goldfish, I wanted to question the skull immediately to see if there are any contingencies we need to be aware of.

Plan updated to shamelessly steal your questions.

I'm being serious, having that Oath of Blood as a contingency for if we're ever killed would put my mind at ease (We'd immediately be raised as an undead). If we can get away with a Menial and insubstantial Geas to apply the Oath of Blood on, we really should.

@DragonParadox Is it possible to have the Geas that we put Oath of Blood on be somthing like "Quietly say astalavista every 100 millennia"?
