Now that's interesting. I wonder how that developed?

Is it a natural evolution from being hunted by so many religious lunatics wielding powerful magical weapons, armour and techniques? Or is it artificially induced?
It almost sounds like something the more prominent religions at the time developed.

We can all agree that the current Catholic church and the old Catholic church are very different. The old Catholic church was pretty damn corrupt. I can totally see the old Catholic church, if they had access to magic which it seems in DC they did, making parts of the population into "monsters" for them to fight with their very holy symbols. And since they were smart enough to create vampires, they made it so no matter how the church changes they'll still be able to fight the vampires and be seen as heroes.

They probably would have done it to the less-liked part of the population.

Just a theory anyway.

"Somebody convinced Wondy t' stop wearing a swim suit."

"Do that again and I'll convince Black Canary to stop wearing tights."

"Eh." He shrugs nonchalantly. "That's Ollie's problem."

I frown. "Wait. Are you trying to tell me that you're actually interested in-?"

"No, no, nothing like that. I'm just saying there's a difference between checkin' out someone who's not with anyone and someone who is.
Checking someone out who is in a relationship is apparently not ok, but checking someone out while in a relationship is fine? Jeez Guy.
"No, Batman destroyed hoh goodness me." I stare stunned at Nightmare Moo-. Wait a second. I narrow my left eye as the chuckles from the Justice League's meeting table reaches me. "Most amusing, sir, but you don't desire the same things she did."

Mister O'Brian shifts his head back into its normal shape, a neck about a metre long extending from Nightmare Moon's shoulders. He keeps the horn in the middle of his forehead as he grins down at me. "Not megalomaniacal enough for yah? Or do I need to work on my nicker?"
He can change the color of his skin and costume as well as the shape? Always thought it was just his shape.

Not sure that you should take so definite a statement there. More things I could say, but this isn't the place for it.

He did most of his checking-Wonder-Woman-out before he got into a relationship with Tora.

Also, yes.

It came up in the comic where his son was introduced. He can change colour, but it takes a lot of effort and he generally prefers not to.

Anti what now? (too lazy to open a new tab and google it)

Well, it could have been worse. Wonder Woman's at least not a supervillainess or something. :D :p

If you click twice on the word antihistamine, and right click, then an option to search Google for antihistamine will pop up. It will automatically create a new tab. I just did so in...two seconds. Antihistamines are treatments for allergies and steroids. Dr. Doom is making a joke, by implying that such a mystical disease could be cured by something used to cure sinuses.

Thanks for info. :)

I'm kind of hoping that the Vampire thing can be avoided by giving them an antihistamine.
It might backfire though.

I can just see it now, some vampire casually strangling a vampire hunter with one hand while the hunter fruitlessly waves a cross at him.

"Who would have guessed that the burning and discomfort from holy symbols was an allergy?! Centuries of fighting you idiots, and all we needed was a box of antihistamines!"

Dr. Van Helsing or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Benadryl.

Also, this means that MLP exists on earth 16.
Not on Earth-16, but in Universe 16.

If I understand correctly, and keeping in mind that these aren't, to my knowledge, popular in the US, if they exist at all; these "Top Trumps" cards have some arbitrary statistic on them, and the best at that stat wins when played. For example, bridge-themed decks might focus on the length of the bridge, with the Danyang–Kunshan Grand Bridge being the winner whenever it's played.
Not knowing what Top Trumps were in advance I had assumed they were something like Topps trading cards, with a picture on one side and stats on the reverse. Contextually speaking it made perfect sense to me, and I can totally imagine people making collectible trading cards of superheroes just like they do of athletes.

It depends on what type of new god. For a lot of them high durability (compared to humans) is something they gain.

No, all of them have superhuman durability, that's part of the innate new god package.

It however only extends to blunt force trauma- hence Kanto using a blade, hence Artemiz using bow and arrows, hence both Darkseid and Orion getting shot with a radion bullet.

Radion is poisonous, it works by prolonged exposure or infecting a wound, if either Orion or Darkseid had been bullet proof, there would have been no wound to infect, and a radion bullet would be an ineffective delivery agent.

For that matter, in a JLA adventure in which Darkseid conquered the world thanks to the Anti-Life Equation, this is what happened-

Do you really think the Atom could do the same to Superman without kryptonite or magic or something?

Yes.

The problem with feats like this or similarly powerful acts of speed or strength is that comic writers have absolutely no understanding of basic physics. They are guided purely by the demand of the plot rather than any consistent set of physical laws. You can't really use feats like this as examples of the capabilities of characters when they are converted to a more internally consistent and logical setting.

I can't say that it's a shock that a magical blessing from a magical being work by magical narrative rather than a physics textbook.

Especially since the New Gods are the inheritors of the Norse Gods (or generalized versions there of- an old god named Lokee, a city called Asgaard, a "thunderbelt" that doubles ones strength, etc), and a god being killed by mistletoe is one of the most famous stories thereof.

I agree. I think the way it works in WTR is that all New Gods get enhanced strength and durability compared to a human, but some specialize in it much more than others. I remember a section where the Sphere said that a weapon that would only wound a New God would probably be fatal for a human.

We don't have evidence that this is the case in WTR, and in fact have some evidence against it, although I'm not clear on if this thread of conversation is limited to this fic.
