Yeah, sometimes stories just don't "stick" in canon because later writers didn't read them. See also: Elaine Belloc.
Or because the new Author thinks "My idea is much better/cooler than the old one(s)" or "I think the old story sucks/is stupid" and they simply ignore/retcon the previous history/details (example the origins of Donna Troy, or to a lesser extent, Power Girl)

And yes, I would totally tell a little girl that Santa Claus wasn't real. Because I am not a asshole that lies to little girls.

Congratulations, you just removed her parents leverage.

The tale persists because it's a way to make very young children behave, before their brains are old enough to fully understand WHY they aren't supposed to do something. It's easy to tell them "Santa won't like that." It's harder to explain...oh, let's say quadriplegia as a result of falling out of the half-dead pine tree in their backyard. That one's more likely to turn into the Why Game. Because to a four year old, that Just Doesn't Make Sense. But Santa being angry and not bringing them presents is TERRIBLE! So they get out of the tree.

What actually happens to stuff crumbletech makes just vanish? We don't know; nor do we know the consequences of large scale use.

You can use molecular bond disruption effects to nullify some types of phase shift generators.

Thank you. An Arrow of Unmaking appears from my subspace pocket.
Presumably the individual atoms are still there. Why this doesn't leave a fine powder or rapidly expanding gas, I couldn't say.

If crumbletech does leave a gas or powder behind then it probably is adaptable for mining. And refining what it mines, to. With repeated crumble-pulses to keep the material in gaseous/powdered form (maybe even mono-atomic?) it ought to be possible to sort out a lot of what you want simply by its mass.

Also, cheap underground tunneling would be pretty valuable.

Then yeah, waste disposal. Organic waste especially, the resulting powder can be mixed with soil to make super fertilizer.
Ah, if it makes the material it crumbles into its constituent elements, or roughly that, then the waste would end up as stuff like graphene powder, nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide, ammonia, maybe a few short hydrocrabons. Stuff like that. Only ammonia would do anything to help the soil, the rest wouldn't do much if anything.

However, it would also mean that crumbling toxic organic waste could completely neutralize it. Stuff like oil spills, raw sewage, plastics, industrial waste, asbestos. Heavy metal contaminants would be largely unaffected, but the rest would be made into substances that are at least environmentally neutral.

The "or roughly that" would seem to be important, as IIRC nitrogen very strongly desires to be paired up with another nitrogen. Try to make your recycling device not spit out tons of free, independent nitrogen atoms desperately seeking passionate embraces.

And monatomic oxygen, which is also a Fun substance to have around. Even at the very low atmospheric densities found in low Earth orbit it's enough to corrode spacecraft. What a sea level concentration of the stuff would do I'm not sure, but I bet it would be quite nasty.

Maybe the Crumble effect is slightly persistent, and slows down the recombination of dissociated elements to something less violent?

It would probably just drop things into a nice, quiet form. Nitrogen and oxygen as your basic friendly gases, most things into dust.

Although breathing very fine dust is bad for you.

She shakes her head. "And I'm sure you'll make a great boyfriend. For someone.. your own age. It.. wouldn't.. be right."
Damn agism!
Not dating someone because they lack the emotional maturity or confidence for a relationship or because their lack of wealth, connections or social experience (power differential) would inevitably distort? Fine. But not because of age!
It's just a heuristic!
Some 13 year olds (or three months, as is the case for Kon in this fic) are quite ready for a serious relationship and some 21 year olds aren't (Megan at 21 perhaps?). People are different and should be judged as individuals. To do otherwise is just bigotry.

You know, it strikes me that when he lied about his age, he was lying to Diana. Who has the power to sense lies. Presumably this whole time she's known he was lying about his age, but thinks that he was pretending to be older than he looked to get out of school. Wouldn't be surprised if word's spread around half the League, and even outside of it.

I still have no idea why he decided to lie about his age, though. Not sure why he refuses to just admit it now either.

Beginning of fic(BofPaul) Paul is susceptible to Orange light. BofPaul proceeds to use Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs as a basis for controlling his Orange Tinted Urges. BofPaul gets placed on a team of new heroes. BofPaul focuses his self-interest to helping the team. By helping the team he helps himself. BofPaul has now made vital emotional investments in the team. BofPaul believe that the membership to the team is based on age, because all the members of the team are adolescents. BofPaul, because of ring affected bodily modifications can pass for someone of that age group. BofPaul, who does not want to have his emotional center shifted lies because he believes that his age is important to staying with his in-group.

Middle of fic Paul doesn't want to deal with all the hassle of correcting all the assumptions people have made about him, so he doesn't. This is now coming back to bite him in the ass, as decisions sometimes do.

You know, I just realized something. Of all Paul fan-ships, I haven't seen any with another Lantern. Members of the Team, villainesses, random Gotham citizens... but never another Lantern.

Paul is a Lantern, and he's gotta deal with everything that comes with it. Who can understand everything happening better, or offer better support, than someone who is in similar position themselves?

Assuming he isn't looking for a girlfriend just for sex, he should date a Lantern.

No, she's talking about a place where actors get up on a stage, theatre is fine.

Are you certain? This link and this link would seem to suggest otherwise. In fact, both seem to suggest that whenever Americans do try to make a distinction, the opposite is true (I.e. theater = a place with a stage, theatre = the art), not that any such movement appears to have been successful in bringing universal use (amongst Americans, at least).

Interesting point. Of course, his statement of having graduated already would have rung true. She may think he's one of those kids who end up getting pushed ahead a few years because they're so smart (wisdom/maturity are separate matters)

This is a darn good point. Why didn't she ever call him on it?
