The reason I asked if you missed the point is that you're upset with the wrong character.
One of my main irritations with Dox, besides him being the type of character that just annoys me, (The royal smart person. All hail) was that he started by complaining about Paul interfering/getting involved with the whole remove women's eyes planet. Now I'm sure Dox has a point. What with a drain of resources and such when he's trying to plan out a intergalactic war, coupled with Paul's tendency to flitter around like a moth with no actual direction.

But...

"You did not have to create turmoil. Once you made your initial assessment, you should have realised that intervention would do more harm than good without the application of resources we are ill-disposed to provide in a location far from Reach space."
Go fuck yourself Dox, it was the right thing to do.

"I ran the social dynamics equations. Their society may not have technically been a theocracy, but it was strongly organised around their religious practices. And now that authority has gone. Violent crime will increase by between one hundred and eighty and two hundred and twenty percent, depending on precisely how well Lantern Coutara can take charge of the situation."
Go fuck yourself Dox, it was the right thing to do. I'm not going to ignore evil and brutality just because someone is going to complain about "destabilization."

"This is a vast investment of time and effort which is unlikely to see any return within the foreseeable future. I do not want this repeated."
Go fuck yourself Dox. It was. The right. Thing to DO. (Personal voice incoming) You don't want it repeated? Let's see you fucking stop me. (This is all me, not Paul)

Finally, as a character, I really like Paul. I haven't had any really enjoyable comics or comic style things to read in years. It got to the point with my favorites over in Marvel that instead of looking forward to what they would do, I dreaded it instead. (Kid Loki just broke my heart. I understood why the author felt they had to do what they did, but it was the most interesting thing with the character in god damn decades!)

I don't have that problem here. I look forward to each and every Paul update. I don't always agree with this actions, or the level of his powers, but I still find it all very enjoyable.

To the point...I like Paul, I don't like Dox. As the person I am, I really don't understand why Paul would try to hand control of the corps over to anyone...especially when he has such a major independent streak. On one hand, he's clearly trying to do the right thing, and isn't so arrogant that he believes he can run such a major organization on his own but on the other....well he god damn well should know just how he is.

Now, coupled with Zoat describing what Dox has been up to...I'm really quite puzzled as to what Dox's problem is. Because although Paul MIGHT be making his job a little bit more difficult (though honestly, even if he is, shouldn't someone of Dox's level be capable of handling it?) Paul hasn't actually gotten in his way, or stopped him from doing his job.

All I am seeing is a guy bitching that "Damn it, I'm in charge! ME! People think its you, and it's supposed to be me! Wah wah wah!"

i think its that while Dox feels for them he has to think logically and while theyre in war with a society of lantern killers aka the reach he cant afford to send lanterns away from the war to make sure the planet doesnt devolve into something out of judge dredd or that lantern Chance?'es planet and also hes the guy who paul and everyone else is supposed to go to for permisssion to do that crap and if paul does it on his own ikt undermines the command structure however loose that structure is which for a corps about to go to war is very bad

to clarify i feel paul did the right thing but if an army always did the right thing over the neccesary thing our history would be a LOT different

I don't think Dox cares about them in the slightest. It could be me, but he seems more concerned with the "distractions" Paul's actions could cause. Also, the Reach isn't going anywhere. It's not like they are on a super strict time limit. Gaining more goodwill and more allies can only help in the long term. Which IS Paul's job. He's basically out there selling the OLC to the universe while Dox is suppose to be back at base, overseeing the day to day operations and the fleet. At worst all Paul did was make slightly more work for Dox himself which...to be honest....maybe he should just get some assistants if it's giving him problems. No one said he had to do it all himself....well except maybe his ego.

who paul and everyone else is supposed to go to for permisssion to do that crap
The Orange light is not one that generally gives unto asking permission. Any time Paul has asked for permission for anything, he was basically just trying to be nice.

and if paul does it on his own ikt undermines the command structure
This is slightly true....would be more true if Paul was a mere corpsmen. However he is both Agent Orange and the number 2 man in the corps. Also, it is my personal opinion that the positions are in the wrong order. Granted, we have not seen how Dox interacts with the rest of the corps, and I'm willing to bet he probably gets along better with the Darkstar recruits/the ones found by his algorithms. Admittedly, were this a normal comic, I'd see a civil war in the future if Dox and Paul really get come to full loggerheads.

Paul isn't an army. He's a mad man with a Ring.

Big pictures are made up of little pictures and those little pictures? Can pay off far greater than you'd ever imagine.

he mad the corps under the premise of fighting an empire, that is an army and he set himself as below the top so he has to report that kind of planm up top to get approval

That is one of the goals of the OLC yes, but it isn't the only one. Also, not all Orange Lanterns are soldiers. It isn't regular army, doesn't behave like it, and can't be treated like it. Paul himself is a Superhero, and most tellingly, continues to think like one (mostly). What is the first thing a superhero does? Reject established authority.

Soldiers have to follow orders. Orange Lanterns literally can not do things they do not want to do. Not much of an army if they can't fight an enemy they don't care about fighting. Also, what happens after the Reach is defeated in X amount of years? An army would disband/wind down....will the OLC do so? Doubtful.

he set himself as below the top so he has to report that kind of planm up top to get approval
Paul has literally never asked permission of ANY big time event/change he has ever done.

He interfered in fucked up eye ripper world, did he ask permission? He broke out numerous prisoners of a messed up isolate everyone world, breaking their laws while doing so, did he ask permission? He swiped a Kryptonian offshoot and his friend off of their world, again breaking more of another planet's laws, potentially earning a very powerful enemy, did he ask permission?

I'm going to go ahead and say that...well all those answers would be basically NO.

What can Dox do about it? Not a god damn thing.

He asked/told Paul to go home. Paul can then go home...and then flitter off to another corner of the universe and involve himself and the OLC in whatever he wants at any time and there really isn't a god damn thing Dox can do about it. Except resign.

You think he can take Paul's ring and Power Battery? Because I'm thinking no. As long as he is Agent Orange, the Ophidian's chosen (and hey, this could change?) Paul pretty much only has the limitations within HIS organization that HE accepts.

I think this quote is relevant even considering the source.

"I invent, create, destruct and destroy...and when I don't like something about the universe I change it."

First off...your spelling is horrible and getting worse.

Secondly, no longer qualified? He's literally the most accomplished Orange Lantern who has ever lived with the greatest understanding of the Orange light of anyone not Maltusian.

he has given up authority to Vril
On paper yes, in practicality? Apparently no. Hence why Dox isn't happy.

he has to follow the chain if command or it sets a bad example
I'm going to call it now...Paul will continue to do whatever he wants to do, whenever he wants, because that's literally the person he is, and that's literally the foundation of the light that he is using/soaked with.

This here. This is truth. Paul founded the organisation. Paul is the most accomplished agent in it. Paul is the most capable with their particular toolset. Paul is the most recognisable member. Paul is the one the recruits look up to. Paul is also the one who recruited all of them. He is an ideal figurehead and face of the organisation.

By comparison. Dox was recruited at around the same time as everyone else. By Paul. And presumably offscreen all the other recruits were told to follow Dox' orders. By Paul.

Literally the only reason the corps would have to think Dox is in charge of everything, is Paul saluting him at the end of this update. And even then I personally would see it as sarcastic if I were looking on from the sidelines. For orange light users, you need to inspire them to want to follow your orders. You can't demand it. It just doesn't work that way. If Paul were to paint it as having utmost faith in Dox as strategic command, that would work. But Dox' ego would never accept that, especially after being promised the leadership position. Dox in charge? No one will care about following his orders. Which by the very basis of the power they use, will make them less capable of doing so. Dox needs to inspire them and if he can't, he's wrong for the job.

Hnnh. I wonder if he can port right into Darkseid's trophy room and take one of those batteries. He would have to port with a different green battery first, so he's not stuck on Apokalypse.

Probably not. All of the Avarice!Teleportation has used a person or groups desires to make sense of where he's going. Without knowing the desires of a Trophy Room Guard, or if they even have strong enough desires with SELF=NULL going around, he probably couldn't get there with the Avarice!Teleportation.

Aside from the fact that stealing from Darkseid is probably a bad idea, Apokalypse is both thaumturgically active and extremely technologically advanced. They probably have some form of interdiction which would inhibit, if not prohibit OL's teleportation technique.

I hold my personal lantern up to my face, staring into the scintillating orange flickers within. This time last year I was dealing with the fallout from my 'contest' with Artemis. Now look at me. Here I am, on the grandest planet in the universe-.

"Having trouble letting go?"

I exhale, then lower my lantern to look at Hinon. "No. Just thinking."

"Is it likely to take long? I realise that Clarissi Dox is supposed to be the brains of the outfit, but I do like to think that the number two man can spark a couple of neurons now and again."

I huff, then step forward to plug my personal lantern into the indicated attachment point. "I just think there should be more ceremony to something like this. We're transferring the Embodiment of Avarice into our Central Power Battery. There should be a parade… Line of Lanterns hailing her…"

"You can have a parade once the Reach is destroyed. How about that?"
She waves her hands at the Central Power Battery. "Control systems good, structure sound…"

"
That would be a parade of celebration. Being a Lantern-."

"If it makes you feel any better, we didn't have one when we bottled Ion either."
She turns away from the Central Power Battery and looks up at me expectantly. "Mm?"

I raise my left hand to my mouth. "Illustres to all Orange Lanterns and Controllers. The Ophidian is about to enter the Orange Central Power Battery. You shouldn't notice any ill effects, but if you do, report them immediately."

Ophidian.

Yes, my Agent?

It's time. The Corps is ready. Not as big or as strong as it will become, but they're ready for you. The Central Power Battery is ready to receive you, and we made sure that you will be able to access our full data stores from inside.

Thank you, my Agent. I will delight in being able to feel every desire my Corps experiences!

And I'm glad you will, but Dox is getting a bit shirty about people calling it anyone's Corps but his, so…

I will be mindful of his fragile ego. At least, I will be once I experience it from his perspective.

"
Alright then, I think we're about-."

"Wait!" Hinon and I look around as Kalmin flies into the Central Power Battery Chamber, landing just behind us and holding out some sort of monitoring device. "And begin."

"Well, so long as it's convenient for you"

He nods distractedly. "It is. Begin."

Ophidian.

I press the interlink button.

Now.

There's a momentary flare in my lantern, then in the connection attachment and then the lights being emitted by the Central Power Battery itself oscillate for a moment before settling down to a new, brighter and faster-pulsing level.

I wait for a moment. "That it?"

"Yes."
/ "Yes."

I flip the switch again, then lift my slightly duller lantern out of the slot. "Any problems?"

"No, of course not."
/ "Not yet."

I sigh inwardly as I return my personal lantern to subspace. "Let me know if anything changes. Kalmin, is the item I asked for ready?"

He nods, and holds out a decorative box near-identical to the one which Alan used to keep his personal lantern in. "I was concerned that I wouldn't be able to find a sufficiently strong source of hope to make the connection. Fortunately, those people you gave refuge to have no idea that you brought them here merely so I could study them."

I smile indulgently at him. "I knew that you'd need subjects…"

He holds the box out to me, grinning. "I've murdered a few religions in my time, but I've never had the devotees thank me for it! I knew that you were worth my attention!"

I take the box, my smile probably slightly more strained. "I had.. enthusiastic help."

"It's a curious approach, motivating people like that." He nods. "I never bothered while I laboured for the Anti-Monitor. But I think I like it."

"I'm.. glad it meets with your approval-."

"What have you got there?"

"
A present for Alan. Kalmin, will it survive me teleporting? I wouldn't want to ruin your work."

"On its own, I would not recommend it. Not without a Central Power Battery providing additional stability. But I added protective systems to the box; it will endure."

Hinon raises her hands, and a sphere of orange light surrounds us. "What have you lunatics done?"

"Our Illustres taught me of the fearsome power of hope. I spent some time in repose and study, and then I built-."

Hinon regards the box with polite horror. "A blue personal lantern. Archor preserve me, you actually…" She shudders, and drops the orange sphere. "Go!"

"
Hinon, what-?"

"Go!"
She makes a fanning motion with her hands. "Shoo! Shoo! Before you… Do anything else!"

"
Ah… Alright? See you when I see you." I raise my left index and midle finger to my forehead, Goku style, and then step out.

Alright, where's Alan? His desires were always a bit harder to see than most people's. All that green light, and the fact that they weren't a big part of his character.

Huh. That's… Odd. Can't… No, no, no… Ah. Can't feel him at all. Oh well, not as if I'm an expert at this yet. It's midday in New England, so no appearing right next to my friendsProbably shouldn't jump a League member, not when the last thing I did before leaving was kill one of them. Then where..?

I step back into the universe inside a robotic laboratory.

12th September
19:19 GMT +1

Immediately
, about thirty turrets pop out of the ceiling, walls and floor and aim at me and Thaddeus Sivana Junior's head appears from underneath some sort of flying vehicle. He takes one look at me and then turns his head in the direction of the doorway.

"DAAAAAD! THE TELEPORT JAMMER'S NOT WORKING!"

"You're perfectly capable of fixing it yourself, Junior!"

"BUT IT'S YOUR DESIGN!"

"I have every confidence that you can improve on it, my boy! Who was the intruder?!"

"THE ORANGE LANTERN!"

"Oh, that's a pity! I didn't think he was too bad! Still, if you can scrape up-!"

"HE'S NOT DEAD, DAD!"

That seems to give Sivana Senior pause. "The teleport jammer and the turrets? Oh dear me. Perhaps I should take a look at them."

Kalmin is amazing. :p I love his complete inability to understand what was going on there and his sheer enthusiasm.

So, only a personal battery? No hope for hope Corgi? Aww.... Joking aside - Hinon was, to put it lightly, disturbed by blue light lantern. I am sure Kamlin is smart enough to have noticed that. The question is, of course: what's so disturbing.

Alan not being detectable is concerning, to say the least. And choosing Sivanas? Was Kord unavailable? I can see not wanting to go to Themyscira - he could probably bypass wards with this trick, but there's no reason to irritate the goddesses, and JL affiliated areas are not ideal. But why not go to Jade? to Harleen?
