Interviews: Sorting Process (Part II)
"I think I'll go with... four right now."
Nikolai hummed thoughtfully. "Four? Not counting myself, that's two less of the staff position you're trying to fill up, Benson. Not saying that this isn't a bad idea, I would say the lowest I'd personally go is about three. But four is an odd place to start. Any reason why?"
You just shrug in response. "Counting us, that'd bring our ranks up to six exact. We don't have the full resources Maellard had right now to support a full park crew, so I'd rather we start off at an average build than go all in or hold back. I still got things I need to work out across the City, hell the region in general, and I'm gonna need all hands on deck to help me out on this."
"Ah, I see," Nikolai gave you that dangerous smirk again. "Not to worry, Boss, just give me the mission specs and who the target are, and I'll have what's left of them sinking down into the Park's pond by the end of the day."
"Nikolai, cut it out!" you bark at the goat-man, who reels back in shock. "We're not... doing that to anybody. What do you think we're in, a war?"
"Yes."
The response comes so quick and so matter-of-factly that you reel back just as Nikolai did, as the Russian agent takes the seat across from you, rubbing the top of his head tiredly.
"I've been in this game for a long time, Benson," he says softly. Almost wistfully, you think. "And I've seen plenty of men and women like you come and go during my time in service to the Motherland, let alone my time spent working for M.O.M. I've been to the ends of the planet, fought against some very, very, very bad people before and after I met you guys, and did things that still haunt me to this day. This business you're now in isn't one for the faint of heart. It'll break you or make you, based only on how you react to certain things that appear as obstacles in front of you."
He pauses, laughing as if remembering something. "Hell, I've seen you do it before with the other guys. I may have worked here for only a few years, but you guys took on things like evil elves, time-travelling storms, and an army of all your undead enemies after spending two months with amnesia. Frankly, Benson, if anything... you're more prepared to handle the threats on our doorstep than Mr. Maellard was."
"But... but..."
"Ah-ah, no buts," he swipes his hand across his throat, cutting you off. "Times have changed and we can't expect the gang to suddenly show back up to help you out with whatever eldritch monster you've unearthed from its thousand-year slumber. You need new blood and you need them fast. I'm here for you and just know that I'm willing to do whatever it takes to keep this new kingdom of yours safe. In any way."
You shiver at the tone in Nikolai's voice, but don't have the strength to refute him. For all your bluster about not taking any crap from the guys set up around southern Cali, you get the impression that what you were saying was what you wanted the audience at home to hear. To reassure them that things weren't going to end terribly as it had for certain other states in America, that you could go outside and enjoy the sun washing over your face and hearing the call of the ocean without dealing with some mutated sharks or squids or whatever crawling from out of the depths.

Admittedly, having someone like Nikolai watching your back while you covered the front could come in handy in the future. Similar to BensonQuest, WTB will take place in a fused universe of CN/Warner Bros/Adult Swim programs, whether or not they're actually owned by them or not. And as it stands, Toonami (elements of it, at least) are canon in this universe and with it, shows like JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Dragon Ball, and Food Wars due to them being aired on that time slot.
Damn this setting just got even more wild with the anime characters being added in. Even just sticking to dragon ball raises the average power level considerably, course this was already a setting where Superman was said to exist so not that considerably. Not to mention all the cartoon characters with crazy feats like grandfather tanking a moon base being launched at him at terminal velocity
You had me at Option 3, Okuyasu might not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but he's a homie through and through.

For my part, I'm actually leaning towards Option 2 at the moment. I suppose numbers 1 or 3 wouldn't be so bad, but if possible I'd like to avoid recruiting any Family Guy characters so 4 is right out. I'm sure Joe is capable as a hero unit...But bringing him in creates the chance of the Griffins appearing, and I'd like to avoid that if possible

Alright, lots to analyze. Let's start with our options.
I was expecting we would be able to cherry-pick our employees to get the best possible combo, but fine, fine. We thankfully have two slots to cover our deficiencies, and we'll likely be able to expand our rosters as we see fit.
I'm gonna be honest, there's much I don't know about some of these materials - mainly some of the Adult Swim stuff - but I'll try to do my best to analyze pros and cons.
OP1 - Oolong...sounds like a pretty decent unit in intrigue but he's also a perv and not the brightest bulb. Would rather have Puar, as it at least could lead to us getting Yamcha - and jokes aside, dude is pretty high in power hierarchy for martial. Dick is a big no for me: dude may be a genius, but he's also a jackass, even if he having Mutley by his side would probably be fun. Didn't see Food Wars, but Soma is a protag, which is good, and likely has a cooking trait. Never seen Beware the Batman, but girl seems a bit too shady to me. Overall, only Soma seems to be an undisputable good option.
OP2 - Hey, remember Alan. Could shift into a Heatblast-esque alien. Interesting Occult is also related to alien activities, but Ben 10 tended to have some overlap between aliens and magic, so. Good kid and maybe some connections to Plumbers. Don't remember Tights, but is a more direct connection to try and figure out what happened in the DB side of things - and considering how high in the food chain DB is, maybe this is warranted, because many of the bad ends are related to the end of the world and considering how the planet still was not destroyed, I want to get deep into that. Don't know Xochi, but useful power. Alejandro is kind of a viper, though. A charming one, but we'll need to have investment in not have him try to stab us in the back. Better than 1, only Alejandro seems like a issue for me.
OP3 - Daphne is already an incredible pick, even more Mystery Inc. Pretty versatile, mystery solver, and a possible way to get the whole Mystery Inc as our employees in the future. Okuyasu is dumb, but he has a good heart, will be loyal if we treat him well and is possibly a way to learn about the Jojo side of things - and again, Jojo as a series is a big player in the grand scheme of things. Never seen Smiling Friends bar some clips, but Charlie seems reasonable. And in BensonQuest Nicole was a powerhouse and possibly also drags Gumball and Darwin together and renders most early Martial actions almost auto-sucesses, even if we have to deal with her own anger.
OP4 - Never seen Code Lyoko, but seems versatile and is the one Steward. Would like to get it later. Question is paranoic, but also the best in what he does - even above Batman and allows an in on the cape side of things. Zoey is fine and Joe is a secret powerhouse, but Family Guy is pretty fucked up.
Overall, more inclined for 3. Lacks a few essential things, but doesn't have many issues and has great potential.

Never seen Smiling Friends bar some clips, but Charlie seems reasonable. And in BensonQuest Nicole was a powerhouse and possibly also drags Gumball and Darwin together and renders most early Martial actions almost auto-sucesses, even if we have to deal with her own anger.
OP4 - Never seen Code Lyoko, but seems versatile and is the one Steward. Would like to get it later. Question is paranoic, but also the best in what he does - even above Batman and allows an in on the cape side of things. Zoey is fine and Joe is a secret powerhouse, but Family Guy is pretty fucked up.
Overall, more inclined for 3. Lacks a few essential things, but doesn't have many issues and has great potential.

Option 3 seems best over all, though question is very appealing, the rest of his party is kinda mid.
