Martial: Recruitment! (Nicole)
DC 55
Dice Rolled: 57+37+10+5=109
CRIT HIT!! Dice Explosion=+89=193
EXTREME CRITICAL SUCCESS!!

Utilizing your contacts with the media via Margaret and her dad, along with advertising on other social media platforms, you were able to get a rousing number of young men and women lined up outside your park waiting for recruitment. Unfortunately, it seemed to be too many, and for awhile there, you were lost amidst a sea of applications, loud-mouthed explanations as to why they should be recruited, and macho posing from many a person.

That is until Nicole stepped into the fray.

"CADETS, ATTEN-SHUN!!"

You stare at the surburban mom suddenly turned army commando, appearing in a police uniform, and commanding the attention of... you wanna say over a thousand recruits. She showed no mercy to anyone, treating them lower than the dirt beneath her shoes and weeding out the weak from the capable. By the end of it all, you had around close to three companies worth of soldiers ready for training. Nicole promises that she'll be gentle with them. You shiver at the bloodthirsty tone in her voice.

In the span of a month, however, she turned a rag-tag group of men and women who had signed up for a decent pay and/or to escape crippling debt into a fighting force capable of holding their own against an army, each member capable of handling ten men on their own. These troops are bounded together in blood by two things: loyalty to you and fear of Nicole.

[A SECRET ACTION HAS OCCURED!!]

However, by far, nothing could've trumped the results of Nicole's hard work than the day she brought in someone you never would've expected to see in your City.

"...Nicole, be honest with me. Am I dreaming right now?"

[X] Diplomacy: Diligent Citizen! (Charlie)
DC 60
Dice Rolled: 12+27+10=49
FAILURE!!

You were a little wary about finding out exactly what was going on with the government, given that they seemed okay with letting a bunch of nut-jobs run their own parts of the country without any repercussions, but Charlie convinced you that it was probably better to find out what was going on to save yourself the bullet in the future. With reasoning like that, you can't really fault him for trying to call and get in touch with anyone up in the government's higher echelons of command.

Unfortunately, Charlie was put on hold by some secretary that flaked out on him when he revealed who he was working for. They actually hung up on him mid-sentence, pissing the homunculus off, despite how far he'd gotten to actually talking to somebody.

You just pat him on the shoulder and tell him that they can try again next time.

Meanwhile...

"Keep an eye on that one. The eyes of America are about to turn his way once his little plan goes into effect."

REWARD: Malus on 'Diligent Citizen' lowered for next Turn.

[X] Stewardship: Passing Of The Torch (Wilt)
DC 40
Dice Rolled: 33+26+10=69
Success!!

Having Sensai already onboard with making a deal to sell ownership of Death Kwon Do was easy enough, but it was Sensai's sensei that would be harder to convince. The old Death Kwon monk cried heresy to what Sensai was doing, destroying thousands of years of tradition all for some loose change. However, when Wilt showed up that day, whatever he did worked its magic and the old monk calmed down once he talked privately with Wilt.

When you asked him what he did, Wilt just shrugged and said, "Oh, I just told him he'd get some of the money from our sales too, so he's not being cut out of everything. He seemed more worried about losing his pension than anything else."

...okay then.

REWARD: You are the owner of the Death Kwon Do business, which resides only in the Kingdom's borders.
+2 to Income with every Turn.
+1 Stewardship skill increase to Wilt.

[X] Intrigue: Getting the Band Back Together (None)
DC 400
Dice Rolled: 13
FAILURE!!

Nothing. Not a single thing has been heard from any of the other guys, and nothing new in Nowhere has been updated about Rigby. You pace around a little bit, but tell yourself that you'll make it up to him. You'll come for him soon.

[X] Learning: Chop Shop (None)
60/200

When the science nerds came up to you asking to see what they could do with the Park's space modifications, you waved your hand and told them to go wild, not really expecting anything to come of it.

What you weren't expecting was for them to have the dome back up and running within a month's time, along with fixing one of the engine boosters to the Park, even if it couldn't support the whole landmark-turned-battleship on its own. They eagerly report that with enough time, they could even get some new defenses applied to this area to turn it into a proper fortress. Food for thought, you suppose.

REWARD: One engine to the Park is repaired and the space dome around the Park is now working again. +10 to Park defenses from enemy attacks.

[X] Benson: Check In On The Others
Dice Rolled: 14

Life and other responsibilities took up most of your time this month, between planning and worrying about the team going to Rutopia and finalizing the details of your new ownership over Death Kwon Do's franchise. All you know is that Margaret is interviewing some locals about the recent contributions you've made to the City, along with Nicole, Charlie, and Wilt's actions. On the plus side, you're seen in a good light to the commonfolk in the Kingdom.

Bad news... you don't know what those close to you and your old crew think of your new appointment, or what they're even up to.

REWARD: +1 to Benson's Reputation. -1 to Benson's Anger Management meter.

To put this turn in an TLDR,
POSTIVE: So we succeeded at getting the recruits, and got Death Kwon Do, which were arguably the most important ones to succeed, thats great, also nice to get an juicy start on Chop Shop
NEGATIVE: Diligent Citizen failing sucks, but if its anything like the last quest that might be an blessing in disguise, at least for now. Getting the Band Back Together was an expected failure.
PERSONALS: meh, Family Night seems very good (88+68) but the others are... less good looking (15 on Eiss + unknown benson roll) and Wilt is in the single digits, Check In On The Others is ok I guess, sucks but its not all negative despite how low the roll was
OTHER: Quest has started, i am looking fowards to this mess, and the local event roll looks positive, and is yet another interlude, a lot of those this turn

Overall, seems like an reasonable turn, some highs and some lows

Nicole proving why she's our MVP. Once we fill the Park's last slot, we should set her against Don Kree. Dude is getting too cocky for hos own good.

[X] Diplomacy: Diligent Citizen! (Charlie)

Oof Charlie in a bad streak. Don't worry, I guess next turn you'll get it, champ. If things don't change too much. Though if the voice is Amanda...well, as he said, better with us than against and Amanda, for all that she's an extremist, still is not the worst King to be allied to - just let's watch our backs.

Alright, alright. What you have in table for us today Okuyasu? And where the negative dice came from?

[X] Benson: Check In On The Others
Dice Rolled: 14

Meh, but at least not all bad.

[X] Charlie: Talk to Karma
Dice Rolled: 15

Probably bunch of nothing. Or at least nothing that would make Karma refuse to work for us.

[X] Nicole: Take Your Family Out
Dice Rolled: 88

Nicole getting her just desserts. You go girl.

[X] Wilt: Hang Out With the Kids
Dice Rolled: 7

...this is gonna suck for Wilt, won't?

[X] QUEST: Her Only Hope...

Let's go get our Learning Hero.

In the words of Joseph Joestar: "Naisu!"

Alright, alright. What you have in table for us today Okuyasu? And where the negative dice came from?
Its plausible that we will continually get negatives as we encounter more stand users (enemy or otherwise) since the action is specifically to track them down, and as we encounter more there are less we can encounter in the city? not certain about that though.

I would note that Nicole's personal has the same interlude attached to it as searching for stand users, both of which appear to be successes.

Not a bad turn, we got the most important ones done and we can try the failed ones next turn, though I think we should do anger management for Benson next turn to not let it simmer until its too late. I do think that barring any new options we should do Border Control and Blood in the Water next turn to strengthen the Border and keep any of the factions to get any ideas and to keep testing them.

Tentative Plan for next turn
Martial:
[ ] Border Control
DC 70 (Nicole)
I'd be all down for steamrolling into Don Kee if we didn't have a pressing action for Okuyasu. Unfortunately, we have a potential cheap and easy way to get rid of supernatural nasties on our hands, and that means he's locked down. Plug the leaks for one more turn. That said, if we get Test and her bonus is high enough, I might just be tempted to put Nikolai on Martial and steamroll the scum-sucker.
Diplomacy:
[ ] Diligent Citizen!
DC ?? (Charlie)
Easy gig, finish it up. No sense leaving it hanging.
Stewardship:
[ ] Green Thumb
DC 70 (Will face a negative malus due to Gene's actions) (Wilt)(Benson)
Double tap this one so we can be the bigger man and resolve the prank war without stooping to his level, and buff our income.
Intrigue:
[ ] Getting The Band Back Together
DC 400 (Daphne)
The longer this takes, the worse it gets.
Learning:
[ ] Blood in the Water
DC 50/??? (Nikolai)(Test?)
We need to lock this down, now.
Occult:
[] Peanut Butter Investigation
DC ?? (Okuyasu)
Cheap and easy way to screw over spooks, and provides a bit of deterrent to . . . Mandy.

I'm kind of glad we failed diligent, as someone who was here for the first Benson quest, we dodged a bullet, given that last time we let Waller have a small window to fuck around with our Kingdom.

Now that we at least have an army we're in a better position to talk with the government, but I'd still wait until after we did "Blood in The Water" so that our weak points are shored up.

Honestly, I think we should wait 1-3ish turns before interacting with the gov, sooner or later depending on if they contact us first, its important to make sure Waller doesn't throw anything too nasty our way, and contacting them peacefully does ensure that, but also brings with it her influence, and her brand of insanity.

As someone who wasn't here for the first quest, what happened here? Waller trying to bring us down and destroy us because we were a king and all kings must be destroyed?

Hmm now I'm wondering if we're allowed to skip a action, and if so how that would affect other actions chosen. After all for diplomacy only option are contacting a king or contacting government, and well there's a reason I was pushing to king diplomacy rather than government.

...Pretty much sums it up, she sent Stan Smith to either destabilise us or begin starting up an invasion, the previous quest died before we found out exactly which he was going for, but neither is good, Especially since we have seen duplicate actions (ones shared in both quests) have the same result the previous quest had (assuming same result, and we succeeded on it first time, with an Extreme Success)

Honestly, its far better to have information on who is spying on us for the gov then not, even if it makes them better at said spying, as for contacting an king, entirely depends on who, thus far the only ones that are considered good are jerry... and jerry, everyone else is varing degrees of horrible, from BBB (an option, especially due to the quest we did this turn) to utterly horrible (GDA) to almost certain war (Crystal Coves King)

Speaking of crystal cove, its almost certainly Professor Pericles (see previous rival reports) which is either very annoying (Just the professor), or apocalyptically bad (see the spoiler below)
(Didn't the Entity plan to eat the universe? even if not (my memory is not the best on this topic) its still an problem given the corruptive influence of the thing)

Interlude: A Deal With Satan
Nicole wiped away the sweat forming on her brow, the sun's rays practically scorching the people outside in its heat today. Across from her, the field was filled with dozens of men and women, most human but others andromorphic as her, performing drill routines she designed to whip these guys into shape. Benson said he wanted an army that could defend their borders, and by golly, she'll make a man out of these greenhorns yet.

Although, she muses, wincing when watching a bull-man ram his head into a nearby tree, knocking it down. We still got a lot of work ahead of us.

She sighed. While many of these guys were eager to learn from her, she lacked something that was necessary to the recruitment stage; charisma. She had spent most of her life ruling through an iron fist (granted the household she lived in called for such tough love) to make sure things stayed under control, and she still had trouble trying to find the proper way to communicate with these people outside of drill instructor mode.

Sometimes it's during these times that I wish that Ri-

She stopped herself before she could finish the thought. It didn't do any good to have a mental breakdown right here in front of the recruits.

So Nicole just closed her eyes and continued to breath in-and-out, as the sounds of training continued around her.

...

"MA'AM! MISS NICOLE, SIR!"

"GAH!!"

Instinctively, she struck out with a back-handed fist into the face of some poor soul, knocking them to the ground. Horrified, she quickly brought them up to their feet, despite the blood gushing from their nose and the dazed look in their eye.

"S-sorry, ma'am," he slurred, Nicole recognizing the man as Private Jenkins.

"Darn it, Jenkins, you shouldn't have snuck up on me like that! You know what happened to the last guy who did that."

"But ma'am, it's an emergency..."

Nicole tensed, eyes darting around the area. "What's wrong? Are we under attack by an enemy?"

"S-Satan..."

Jenkins' eyes rolled up to the back of his head and he faceplanted, unconscious. Around her, the other recruits murmured in concern, noting the interaction from afar.

"Don't mind him!" Nicole called out. "He just... had a heat stroke, that's all. Someone take him to the infirmary, I'll be right back."

Not wasting any time, Nicole darted away from the field, dashing from tree to tree with the agility of a wild tiger, on the hunt for whatever's trespassing. Her fists tightened in anticipation, readying herself for whatever hellish fight awaited her at the end of her pursuit. She could only be thankful that Wilt was keeping her boys busy in the City today on errands, the Imaginary Friend had turned out to be a good role model for her sons to listen too while she was at work.

Still, she mused grimly. With Nikolai gone and Okuyasu being... somewhere... it's up to me to deal with whatever's happening here. I can handle it easily, but if it's something like that Kaiju from awhile back, things are going to get messy.

But that was fine. Nicole didn't mind getting ruffled up once in awhile; kept the blood flowing.

As she neared the Park's memorial site, she stopped dead when she caught something strange near one of the statues. Or rather, someone. She couldn't get a good look at the front, but from behind, she could make out a large afro on this man (obvious by the hairy forearms on him, she blanched with disgust) and wearing simple fighter's clothes. The type you'd see on a martial artist... or at least, someone trying to pose as such. The sneakers didn't help with the appearance any.

Quietly sneaking up on the man, she could hear him mumbling something under his breath... and noticed him holding a cellphone up to his ear. "-no, sweetie, I promise this is gonna be a great thing for us! I mean, these guys are so desperate for help that they're picking up any chump they find on the streets these days. I hear that their trainer around here is some cat woman and a Russian goat man. Can you believe that?"

Her eyes narrowed. Oh yeah, this guy was getting his butt kicked.

The man winced at whatever the person on the other line was saying. "...yes, I know that sounded a bit demeaning, but-"

...

"Hey! I respect all fighters across the world, no matter what race or gender they are! Believe me..." he shuddered. "I learned that lesson the hard way. Your mother never let me hear the end of it."

...

"Yeah, I know you wouldn't either," he grumbled. "Just... let an old man have his moment in the spotlight, please? Trust me, when they get a load of me, all they'll be saying is-"

"How long can you last against this 'cat woman'?" Nicole stoically said.

"Yeah, and...!"

The man freezes... and slowly turns around to face Nicole, revealed a blue-hued face with snot leaking out of one nostril. His mustache quivered in fear as she cracks her knuckles.

"Vi-Videl, sweetie," the man gulped. "I just want you to know that your daddy loves you and for you to destroy whatever he has in the box above his dresser."

You stare at the scene before you in bewilderment, not bothering to hide any sort of confusion in your expression. After all, it's not often to see Nicole standing on-top of a battered and weeping man begging for mercy from the cruel demigod trampling on them.

...okay, so maybe that's happened a lot around here lately, but not from a stranger!

"Nicole," you slowly say. "Be honest with me. Am I dreaming now?"

"Nope," she replied, popping the 'p'. "I found this bozo hanging around the Park memorial and talking to someone about pulling a fast one over us. Apparently, he doesn't think that this place can be well-protected with a 'cat woman' and a 'Russian goat man' training our recruits."

Your face darkens. "Is that so?"

"Oh, please don't kill me!" the man sobbed. "I-I-I didn't mean anything by it, honest! I'm just a simple man trying to find a nice home to raise his little girl, is all! Ever since we were ran out of Chikyu, things have gotten so much weirder lately--!!"

You raise a hand to stop the man's ramblings. "Hold on a sec... Chikyu? What kinda country is that."

The man blinked, surprised. "Err... it's a continent, Mr. President, sir. Located in between the Indian Ocean, neighbors to Africa, Asia, Australia... you, uh, you never heard of it?"

You look to Nicole in confusion, who simply shrugged back.

"Get this guy outta here."

"N-No, wait!" the man exclaimed, squirming under Nicole's grip. "Please, sir, I-I-I was only looking for a job to keep a roof over me and my daughter's heads! I've heard that you guys were going through some rough times here with the crime rate and all those spooky alien dudes, so I figured I'd lend my services out to you."

"Oh yeah? And why should we think about hiring you?"

The man's demeanor turned cocky, planting both fists on his hips, despite the kneeling position he was in. "Because you're looking at a world-class martial artist, mister! The bringer of pain, the proprietor of destruction himself! The one. The ONNNNLLLLY... MR. SATAN!! YEAAAAAAAAAH!"

He jumps up to his feet, flashing twin peace signs as he roared in manly triumph!

...

You and Nicole just stare at him.

He deflates under the stare. "Uh... y-you know. Winner of the 24th Tenkaichi Budokai?"

"The what?" you echoed.

"They still hold those tournaments?" Nicole asked, surprised. "I thought they cancelled them after the low turn-outs from the last few competitions."

"N-no! They still hold them... at least, they did before the army took over," Mr. Satan grumbled in annoyance. "But I still hold the title of reigning champ from where I come from! I've beat down everything from wolfmen to dinosaurs with my bare hands, and came up on top each and every time!"

You look at Nicole, confused. "How do you know about this place if you don't even know where he's from?"

Nicole shrugged. "Was a phase in my childhood. Grew out of it."

Shaking your head, you turn back to the supposed martial artist. "Mr. Satan-"

"Oh please, call me Hercule. You're royalty here, sir."

"-Hercule," you say, rubbing the back of your head. "While I'm flattered that you came here to offer your... services... to the Park, well-"

The man's face fell so fast that you backtracked on what you were about to say. There was no point in kicking a man while he was already down.

"Oh. I see," he whispered, tears in his eyes. "I... I'm sorry to take up your time, then. I guess I'll go back out into the world... with my daughter, my pride and joy."

You wince as he shuffles his way to the door.

"I guess I'll be forced to find some other way to make income," he lamented. "Out there on the mean streets."

You gulp, getting choked up in the man's lamenting.

"Where all sorts of crazy monsters and villains seek to hurt me and my little girl. Us two against the world, as it's always been."

You feel your hands start to shake.

"Oh, the misery!" he wailed, putting a forearm up to his eyes. "Oh, the pain! Ohhhhh~"

"Okay, you can stop with the waterworks now."

You blink, finding tears rolling down your eyes as well. You turn to find Nicole looking at Hercule, a resigned if interested look in her eyes.

"I'm a master of the guilt-tripping technique, buddy," she calmly informs the now-pale Hercule. "Trust me, growing up in a household of three kids and one husband toughens a girl up. But... if you are who you say you are, then I don't see why we can't keep you around."

"You... you serious?!" Hercule gasped.

Nicole shrugged, a small smile on her lips. "Well, it's not up to me, per say. Benson, your thoughts?"

Coughing, you wipe away your tears and turn to look at Hercule. "Nicole isn't one to take things lightly, so I'll take her word for it. However," you cut off his celebratory cheer with a raised hand. "Don't think what you'll be doing is gonna be an easy job, buddy. Like you said, we fight aliens and monsters around here on a weekly basis, and Nicole's training regimen is one that'll break your spirit and your back before you meet her expectations. Once you take this, there's no going back... unless you choose to quit, but that's a given."

"Aww, thank you, Mr. Benson!" Hercule took your hand and shook it fervently. "Thank you, thank you, thank you! Don't you worry, sir, I won't let you down! Whatever Ms. Nicole throws at me, I'll take it tenfold! No, a hundredfold! I'll do a thousand push-ups with one finger if need be!"

"Only a thousand," Nicole echoed. "With one finger?"

"Uh..." Hercule blinked. "Ye-yeah."

Nicole's mad cackle sent shivers down your spine and you give Hercule a pitying look.

"HUT, TWO-THREE-FOUR! HUT, TWO-THREE FOUR!"

Mark 'Hercule' Satan gasped for breath, sweat pouring off him like a waterfall as his limbs struggled to hold up the thousand-ton weights wrapped around his biceps and thighs, slowing his momentum. Behind him, a pack of wild wolves charged after the man, all eager for man flesh.

"THIS WASN'T IN THE JOB DESCRIPTION!" Hercule cried.

"DID I SAY YOU COULD SPEAK RIGHT NOW, MAGGOT?!" Nicole screamed. "DROP AND GIVE ME TWO THOUSAND!"

"BUT THE WOLVES-!!"

"ARE NOTHING! WORK THROUGH THE PAIN!"

"WHHHHHHY?!"

"Huh," Videl Satan, seventeen years old, commented idly from afar. "I haven't seen him cried like that in years. Nice work."

"Thank you, it takes practice," Nicole beamed with pride before shuffling back into a fighting stance. "So, ready to continue?"

The young girl met Nicole's grin with an eager one of her own, as they charged and clashed in a duel bound to shake the heavens over the wailing of Hercule.

REWARD: Mr. Satan and his daughter, Videl, have been unlocked as Hero Units for the Park. Though they aren't Park workers, they are now a part of Benson's growing military forces and can be called on for future Actions if need be.
ACTION UNLOCKED: 'What on Earth is Chikyu?'

Gotta be honest, I have come to be quite irritated at that "popping the p" verbal tic. I dunno if it's some kind of tribal marker (like parted hair or certain kinds of tattoos) or just one of those memetic things that get passed around, but it's usually a sign of how certain things are going to be written either way and I'm bored/tired of seeing it.

Besides that, both of those heroes will probably be useful. Hercule will almost certainly be a diplomat with playing-to-the-crowd specialties, and Videl will be a good martial character. Maybe supernatural if she's post-Gohan-intervention.

An entertaining interlude, overall.
