A higher roll is better, so I'm willing to assume that either whoever's knocking on our proverbial door is someone who can be talk-no-jutsu'd into not killing us (Eldar, some radical / sane Inquisitor, surprise Tau jumpscare from some warp accident gone wrong etc)

Ooor it's a threat we can easily blow up with our grand cruiser.

Could be a kroot warsphere too, those aren't inherently hostile. Plus their biology is wild

Edit: admittedly I would love for Vita to meet some Necrons early, since we rarely see much of them in fics imo

Why are you guys doing this as if it were a religious ritual to machine spirits of the dice?

It is to those that are doing binary and suck once the announcement of the vote close happened on pages 194 to 195

I stayed far away and it seemed to help the dice.

One interesting possibility I thought of on the drive home. A random rogue trader shows up. They often have rag tag fleets, we could join them and go on a magical mystery tour across the galaxy :)

Glad to see the high training rolls though. Will be great to level Anexa, one step closer to 10

In all honesty if we were to be associated with a rogue trader it would be the best way to blend in with the galaxy at large. We will have a large fleet that will help us protect ourselves, as that way we won't have to spend BP to build up a fleet on our own as no matter how much upgrades and weapons systems we have on our new ships.

There will always be numbers that will count and they will take a toll on our new ship until it breaks, so having numbers as well would be a good idea and we can make more connections with the other captains and admirals of the rogue trader fleets.

Though I won't say much on the topic as I am mostly a specter with some thoughts on some ideas so carry on.

The problem is that if we go with a rogue trader, we'll have to keep hiding our identity for the forseeable future and potentially curtail our own expansion, research and production to sell the bit.

Besides, I don't really see us (or Vita to be honest) really subordinating ourselves to an Imperial (even a rogue trader) and playing second fiddle.

Well it is one of the options and besides making connections would be good. For the rest of the galaxy is not going to be merciful as it is a dark future for a reason.

Though do you guys think that there would be a possibility for Vita to create her own small fleet of powerful ships that would be a multiplier in any naval Battle, once she has upgraded her ship to Sufficient systems and stuff?

I've never really thought about it, but how many ships are in a normal average imperial battle? Like I understand it's not always the same, but if some Orkz came around and invaded a system, how many ships would be there to respond? I know some systems have ships that can't warp and just do stuff in system, cheaper I think?

Either way is it like 10, 50, 100? I need a ballpark estimate, I've never really thought about it too hard.

Depending on that answer we could really be a big help to any system under attack.

First a warm welcome to the conversation!

Second, I think this is the plan for the midterm. As a Grand Cruiser we are analogous to a WW2 battleship fused with a modern aircraft carrier. While both were/are extremely powerful they rarely went anywhere without their escorts. We will need the same.

We also want to build some factory/utility ships to take production capacity with us wherever we go.

Obviously this is all very dependant on what that 90 means and what happens in the next few turns.

Generally speaking, a battle might have one light cruiser and two or three frigates, but things can snowball fast when things go beyond the usual background noise level--though an engagement with more than twenty ships is extremely uncommon, generally only happening at major setpiece battles. This isn't because there aren't a lot of ships, it's just that it's not often that you can roll them up into a single doomfleet to hit a specific objective as opposed to staying dispersed for maximum coverage.

The mainstay of the imperial fleet is the Lunar class heavy cruiser, which are noted to often patrol in pairs. Their main scout is the Dauntless light cruiser, which usually operates on its own but is noted to be effective in pairs or with an escort squadron.

So I think most battles would involve 1-2 Cruisers and 0-4 escorts (Destroyers/Frigates).

Most sectors operate many patrol squadrons as tripwires and then keep the sector battlefleet in 1-3 reserve deployments. Anything the patrol can't deal with will (likely) cause the mobilization of the battlefleet. Each of these reserves would be 1-2 battleships, 2-6 heavy cruisers, 4-8 light cruisers, and 4-20 escort ships.

So they can scale pretty big, but only for the big threats.

For a historical example of a big threat check out the Battle of Gethsemane where the 12th black crusade was broken. It was 2 Battleships, 2 Battlecruisers, 20 imperial escorts, and 20 Eldar ships versus ~2x their number in Chaos ships.

Mind you, the Gothic War was distinctly very small scale compared to some, fought over a single Sector. It was of critical strategic importance, but it wasn't a large scale throwdown like the Thirteenth ended up being.

Agreed, but I very much hope we are not getting involved with any fleet actions approaching the size of the 13th. If you need more than one hand to count the number of battleships the correct course of action is to leave.

For those less familiar with the lore, you can read up on the delightful 13th black crusade here. In short, it went poorly for the imperium and broke their territory in half.

Right so bongo's probably gonna have more secrets to reveal because we only got a basic success
Anexa gets +5RP
Cia starts working on being more reliable
And victan caught something or managed to calm Denva down or something one of the two.
