Transposition, or: Ship Happens [Worm/Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio | Arpeggio of Blue Steel]

Raid 5/6, with a good file system goes quite a long way...
I have 8x 3TB drives in zraid2 (raid6) with one being a hot failover, so only seven of those are used in the array. That's my NAS, Luka, and it's over 80% full at this point. Yanhe is my 1U server with 4x 2TB drives in zraid1 (raid5). Nyx, my desktop is 2.5 TB total. Miku is a Mac mini with 1.5 TB total. Gumi is my laptop with another 500GB or so. Meiko has 500GB. IA has 128GB, ONE has 256GB, Tone Rion 2TB, and Rin and Len are VMs so they don't count. Beyond that is 6TB total of USB 3.0 external drives, and then assorted bare drives I've collected or ripped out of enclosures ranging from 500GB to 3TB each.

I swear I don't have a problem or anything. >.>

It's times like this that I really wish I had Taylor and Leah's effectively infinite storage capacities. Being ridiculously advanced Clarketech really has its perks.

Hell, neural net-style reference-based storage in general would be amazing to see, but the closest we can get right now is graph databases.

What about Chloe's ability from Near Light? I saw your review over on FF.net and it made me want to see the PRT's reaction if that version of Max and Chloe showed up across universes to set up an MCCP branch in Brockton Bay.

As for Transposition, or: Ship Happens, after seeing Alita: Battle Angel and buying the manga box set, I am looking forward to seeing what happens with Leah. Although Taylor publicly reviling her hull is also up there in most awaited moments.

I still think this scene, or something like it, needs to be included at some point:
Piggot looked at Taylor accusingly with slightly narrowed eyes. "So, tell me again why, exactly, you thought it was appropriate to shell the Empire 88 over the top of my city with 5 inch cannons?" Taylor blinked, thinking the answer obvious. "Because parahumans don't rate capital ships."

Soooo... if we aren't allowed to talk about thread necromancy anymore... how about some random nekomancy?
Leah: Taaaaaaayyyyylooorr~
Taylor: No, goddammit! I am not giving you cat ears on the next version update!
Leah: But they'd be so useful, nyan.
Taylor: You already have a sensor suite that's better than anything but the extreme edge of spy-Tinkertech as it is. You don't need cat ears. And stop saying "nyan," it's weirding me out.
Leah: But don't you think they'd look cute, nyan? :3
Taylor: I, well... nope. Not going there. Nope nope nope, we are not going there.
Leah's Power: Will give in with only minimal prodding over the next few weeks.
Leah: Just as planned. *pause* Nyan.

Huh. Kinda glad this popped back up. Excuse to reread it over the lazy day.

Not that I really needed an excuse... but the family is in town all freaking week.

Relatives, guests, and fish all begin to stink after three days and should not be kept for four.

Your server setup gives me life goals. I've got a 4x4 TB running unraid that has room for 8 more disks. What is all your stuff filled with?

I've got a 256GB solid-state and three 1TB disks (one WD Blue and two Black bought a few years later) in RAID-5 BTRFS. Which is... probably not the best layout for anything, to be honest, but I haven't been able to motivate to figure out a specific alternative, let alone do the actual rollover (tricky in the absence of any hard drives not currently in use).

You're using BTRFS in (effectively) a prod situation? I hope you have the money for proper backups!

I've stuck with EXT4FS, because it at least won't lose data....

Gosh, all that complicated fiddly storage redundancy and integrity going on here. :o

And here I sit with my "it came with the laptop" HDD, which I formatted as BTRFS just because I wanted fast snapshotting.... The majority of my important stuff is in git, honestly, with some documents in Dropbox and other cloud storage solutions. (But less of the Dropbox since they decided to hate on BTRFS, along with every other filesystem other than ext4.)

...

What??? Don't look at me like that, I need fast snapshotting in order to quickly clone arch-nspawn/systemd-nspawn containers, and BTRFS has been very reliable for me in the absence of actual hardware failure. Given I don't have a multi-disk setup for RAID anyway, I don't fall into the one situation (RAID 5/6) that BTRFS is not yet stable on. So meh. :p

ok this is fine but why is no one reacting to the nekomancers? is this like sb in wich everyone has seen everything (sorry for any bad grammar)
