I would keep both, yeah. For Shu, his current picture would be him at the start of the quest, whilst potentially the newer picture would be him during the inevitable bandit campaign.
I thought that the current picture was supposed to be him at the start of the next year? All of the profile picks so far have said they're for 184.

Liang Shu at least is like...mechanically attractive. He's a handsome devil.
I ain't gay, but I think I'm a little bit attracted to him. He's not even feminine, he's just that good looking :lol

Anyways, is our location even reachable on a rottk map? I feel like this section of China was always greyed out/unreachable.

Shangdang at least should be a location on most Three Kingdoms videogames. I don't think any games go down to the county level. Shangdang isn't too far away from the Capital Province of Sili, so I think it is acknowledged by most videogames based on this era.

Liang Shu being a handsome motherfucker is something that was voted for during character generation, which reminds me... When the New Year stat adjustments come, expect new traits for Shu's sisters. One of which will be the Beautiful trait.

I am looking for both new portraits for the main cast, and for portraits for the main cast when they get older. I have found potential images for both Liang Shu and Lu Lingqi, but would like to hear feedback first. Am also searching for potential new images for the other characters Liang Shu has high Bond with.

The older Lingqi pic is too skinny. The closest to 'good' I can find from Koei is Zhurong, and she's kinda stripperific, if SFW.

Danbooru is no good: Almost all their pics of a muscular woman with a sword, or armor, or a halberd, are the Amazon from Dragon's Crown. Most of the art I know of women in armor from /tg/ are clearly western. Will go through my folders.

On the subject of Lu Lingqi, during the break I took over Christmas, I changed her personality drastically twice, each time rewriting her and her interactions with Shu from scratch. I cannot say if either of my two initial plans for her would have been received well, but given that she does seem very popular within this Quest, I believe that I made the right choice. During the same time, I made the decision to include the meeting with Papa Dong, which if nothing else helped jolt start some of my own creative juices.

I prefer the one Gaz posted. That one actually looks like someone from China. As opposed to the current one, where that one clearly looks like an anime character.

Yeah, but Lin Qi doesn't even exist in history. So why not just go all the way with it, because the picture Gaz provided is quite honestly boring and uninteresting compared to her current look. Sorry about being rude Gaz.

Thug 1: What about you?
Zhang Liao: Who, me?
Thug 2: What's your dream?
Zhang Liao: My apologies, I do not sing.
*blades are drawn*
Zhang Liao: ...
Zhang Liao: I have dreams like you...no really!
Just much less touchy feely!
I am thinking mainly of a place where I can train!
On an isolated mountain,
Cold and rested and alone!
Somewhere I can improve body and brain!
Liang Mi: I've got a dream!
Thugs: She's got a dream!
Liang Mi: I've got a dream!
Thugs: She's got a dream!
Liang Mi: I just want to help my family gleam!
And there is nothing more I covet
Than helping out my brother
Like all you lovely folks I have a dream!

If you say so.
We shouldn't make Chinese people not look Chinese; that's a form of whitewashing I dislike.

You mean like much of Koei's official art and character designs (be real, the most Chinese thing about some of those portraits is black hair) and most of anime? There's only so far we can go. I've got a grand total of 1x pictures of Asian-looking women who're armored, not stripperific, and not skinny. And I've spent significant time looking for drawings of women in armor over the years.

Just because it's common doesn't mean it's right.

Idk I'm uncomfortable with the idea of stripping out the Asian people from an Asian story.

Before we start throwing around words like whitewashing, let's just take a moment to remember that there are chinese people who do have caucasian features in certain areas of china... so much so that there was a theory in the mid-20th century that people from Liqian might be descended from romans who were transplanted into China in the first century BC. Genetic testing, however, proved that though they had caucasian features, they were still closely linked to chinese ethnicities, especially the majority han.

I may have made a mess of that statement, so to sum it up: Yes, there are chinese people with caucasian features. And yes, they are still ethnically chinese.

So while I can't say for sure if it was true at the time, at least in the modern world, being blonde does not discount someone from being "chinese."

I'm saying you should hesitate to be bothered about how Asian people are portraying Asian people. I bet my bottom dollar this picture is by an Asian artist, for example.

If we continue, it should be by PM.

Now, back on topic to helping @Gaz.

Images I dug up.

#1: Woman is in Russian gear, which I can at least imagine as being Chinese if I ignore the cross in the background. But it captures Lingqi's (her more mature version, anyway) spirit to a T, I think.
#2: The unicorn: A non-twig armored asian female beating shit down. But she has a stone hammer, which kinda spoils it.
#3: Similar blond hair to earlier potrait. Gear that could be region-nonspecific. Right attitude. Has a watermark that would have to die.

I'm not gonna continue this, since I've registered my displeasure with the idea, but i will say that internalized white supremacy is a thing and I'm a little tired of seeing Caucasian features being way overrepresented in Asian fiction and media.

Anyways, Lu Lingqi might look a little like a modern Mongolian woman since her father isn't fully Han.

Not gonna lie guys, I actually really like the ROTK 12/13 portraits of Lingqi.

Nice and ornate, stern but kind of cheerful, and headpiece similar to her dad's. The scheme is just reversed in color from Lu Bu's usual black.

This is an example of why we (the players) should never have a say in what any character looks like outside of the player character. So we can avoid the whole "What have you done?! My Waifu a shit now!!! Fuck you1!1!!11!" I say we pick what Shu looks like, and leave everything else to the QM's discretion.

Alternatively, we could accept that all interpretations, including the one where Lingqi is Taylor Swift, as Lu Lingqi's hairdresser-make up artist being really, really good.
