Something I can admit now because it was long enough ago - The reason the "initial trip to Xinshen" arc way back at the start felt like it really stalled and was dragging was because I realised I hadn't finished the Estate Turn mechanics and needed to buy some time, as I still wanted to give everyone regular updates. The Ge family banquet was something I made up basically on the spot to slow the story down and give me time to make Estate Turns non-broken. Ge Maiyu literally would not exist if I had finished the mechanical side of things before starting the quest like a sensible person. I am a bit of a "seat of my pants" writer as it is, so hopefully it all works out! My own incompetence probably made for a better story - albeit one with pacing issues, especially early on.
