Overall, I think that this will work better.
Our defense style is centered around OBSCURING the battlefield, and that doesn't jive with stalling while your partner SEARCHS for a solution. Besides Xuan is a formation expert and containing enemies has always been a mainstay of the field.
Making Xuan and Zhengui interact and potentially boosting our percept are gravy on top.

This is a fake out, this thing seems more like a puzzle box than an actual threat.
 
Also, people questioning his abs are being silly.

I mean, if Sixiang can learn to dispell other people, that would be great! It would help Zhengui with his current problem dealing with debuffs.

Presumably, the part where we just walked through the barrier and had one of our spirits dispell its effects before they could really take hold. Walking through a barrier is generally against the rules set by the creator, you have to find some way around the barrier or a way to disable the barrier.

On the contrary, our comrades aren't affected by our control effects.

It is possible to know things that contribute to finding a solution without already knowing what the solution is. It's like how you can know what a prime number is without knowing what the prime factorization of 39505306 is.

This is a good opportunity for Zhengui to see Xuan Shi in action and maybe gain some respect. Also, Sixiang is tired and having our dispel expert not at the top of their game isn't great for going on defense against a statue with a rainbow of elemental effects jutting out its rear.

Xuan Shi's objectively better at disabling a magic statue, but he'll just have to deal.
