Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

This insight is... super permissive. It tells us, what should good neighbors do, us or them, and at the same time It has absolutely nothing on what should happen if one doesn't want to be a good neighbor. So while I think it is wise for someone to try and compare this with our existing stuff, but it seems to be something Qi would love to have in her build...

[ ] A good neighbor listens without spying, speaks without demanding, takes without dominating, gives without submitting. Respect is the foundation of community.

I'm liking it, since it kinda expands on what we've done with Communication and relationships. A lot for things involving people is a two-way street. But still the same time, it doesn't restrict us if we don't consider someone to be a be neighbour or don't want to be a good neighbour.

It only sets a standard to follow. Plus, it introduces the idea of respect to our views of Community, which is pretty important. Connections as the impetus of community can only carry us so far. We need to think about things to maintain those good connections too. Respect is one of them.

Looking at the updated stuff.

Goodness, we are going to have so many cultivatorpops.

We can get our growth rate up to 20% just based on first tier projects alone.

While the insight might be obvious... there will be a certain amount of that for anyone with the ambition to reach White, and beyond. Since at White a cultivator who failed to include opinions on what we might consider obvious is simply incapable of acting upon that, and thus I'm inclined to pick up the insight.

The primary limitations seems like it would restricts spying on individuals/groups LQ wishes to be a good neighbor to, and none of her current spy networks is limited by that as it is entirely above the table communication. A step further would be CRX asking LQ to look into a specific neighbor due to listening to what other neighbors are telling her in a letter, and even that seems like it wouldn't violate the insight... as it seems more about spying in the sense that you want to get an advantage over your neighbor as that is disrespectful.

Also an insight like this is why Sect Elder, and Shu Yue don't just go looking inside others without being given a good reason to do so.

I'm going to vote against this insight. It would be a good insight for other characters, but it is restrictive on Ling Qi in a way that I think will hinder her or clash with her other choices going forward.

In particular I really don't like the first line, especially when combined with the last.

This basically requires us to have identifed someone as an enemy before we can consider spying on them. Whilst I respect that Ling Qi has moved somewhat away from the stealth and theif roles, I think this is potentally very limiting if we intend to continue to be involved in politics alongside Cai Renxiang. Sometimes you need to spy on someone to determine if they are on your side (a good neighbour in these terms). Sometimse spying on your allies is respecting them by the standards of the (noble) community.

It's a great insight for a baron on the very borders of the emipre dealing with hostile spirts and who intends to see almost nothing of the Human Courts. It does not feel like a great insight if we want to continue with Renxiang in the longer term and the central emerald seas court, potentially up to leaading the revolution against Shenhua (as Shenhua plans) or having to deal with Imperial central nobles as one of Renxiang's lieutenatns.

I think this concern is probably not a big deal in actual practice. Ling Qi is the one who determines who she counts as neighbors, and is not so naive as to believe that all people she meets at parties rather than on the battlefield count. I can easily see her bar for neighbor requiring some information regarding their reliability before they fall into that category.

It depends on how you view it. We don't need to consider them to be an enemy before spying. We need to consider them a neighbour, and you can have standards for that, same as with friends. The thunder hoof moose is a spirit in our fief. Do we consider it a neighbour? No. It's a hindrance, even though it's technically our neighbour.

I do like the Insight. It's basically about respecting others as long as they respect you. Notably, that goes for everyone, so it's another thing that will annoy the Peaks.

Yeah, it means we can't randomly search a person's home for evidence of them being an enemy, but if someone stays isolated enough that no one has so much as a hint of them being an enemy, then they aren't part of the community anyway.
And if someone is a spy while being part of the community, then they will spy on others, meaning they give up any protection the community gives. Which we should notice, given our artist insight is all about questioning the world.

Personally I really like the insight. It dovetails nicely with our other ideas about trust and allowing our friends and family to keep their own secrets. I also read spying vs. listening as pretty unrestrictive. I think it's the difference between like, actively recruiting agents to ferret out secrets and maintaining good relationships and a gossip network, so our role as information gatherer won't be meaningfully impacted—if we do end up needing to do active spying that's already means that neighborly relations have broken down.

Pretty neat update.

Heh.
Looks like the South Eastern Ling Clan of the Emerald Seas will expand more quickly than LQ thought :V
"It has some small properties of Dreaming Qi. Meng Duyi said it would be quite potent as a reagent in crafting cultivator grade alcohols, in addition to being useful for alchemy in general, as a base for separating and distilling the essence of mixed reagents," Ling Qi said.

Xia Lin narrowed her eyes. "The reason you used expensive glass cleansed of all residual fire qi instead of ceramic is that, isn't it?"

Ling Qi lowered her head in acknowledgement. "It is very difficult to bottle. If the container has more than a single qi alignment, the mist will break it down over time. In addition it does not like to stay in liquid form and very easily becomes mist at the slightest disturbance, requiring firm sealing methods."
...
Omg. Good thing its safe. imagine cultivator foof or something similar...

With the face thing already being part of the culture, this might even mellow that, when LQ ascends.
Man, fancy new dreambooze? We're gonna have a bunch of ducals from the ebon rivers stopping by, aren't we?
Question is, will they come to trade or visit a relative who secured a spot here?

Honestly, this feels like the "don't squash mortals in your presence, unintentionally" stuff for a white. At least, i can see it develop that way.

We had a fail roll on the stuff didn't we?

Was that the tortoise/turtle? They're just barely spirit beasts kinda thing? Like the sheep. A local delicacy (like I expect wind sheep lamb and mutton to be tbh)

Cause the Catfish, the Mist, and the Clay were good. Softshell makes a good soup though I hear.

You want us to eat our precious nephews?! For shame!

.....Would it be rude to eat our grandkids?

[ ] Do not take insight from MoSS

Regarding this vote, I see the offered insight as an exercise/meditation on the exclusion aspect of community that was mentioned earlier in the story. The community discriminates between those who are part of the community and those who are not. This insight defines a set of behaviors LQ expects from herself toward community members. She would expect this behavior from them, too.

This means that, for example, people who spy on us are not good neighbors in the eyes of LQ, which would affect how she interacts with them.

I am still unsure which way to vote
