Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
As was noted in the OG thread by the Elders. The Outer Sect shattered his nascent Way. He would've formed a Way any other year. Yet, due to meddling, his potential, like so many others, was sacrificed on the pyre all so that the Princess and Heiress might thrive.

His only sin was that he was only above average and his noble heritage inflated his pride. Many had/have similar flaws. Greater talents surrounded him. Despite all his efforts, he could not keep up and was essentially left behind by his Friend, his Fiancee, and by two he looked down on.

He went from a good prospect to someone whose every effort is trivialized. I pity him, but I hope he can find some way to grow beyond this pathetic state. It kinda of struck a chord with me so I hope he gets better.
I dont remember the elders saying that about Fan Yu...they said it about Yan Renshu, for sure...

Also i dont think he really suffered from the cai-enforced changes specifically. A year without the ducals or the more free-for-all rules could easily still have seen him struggling so much so long as there was a Ling Qi or other talented commoner who was enough in his and/or gu xiulan's awareness to set off the bomb that was the Golden Fields group's relationships. I suppose having the ducals to compare to also didn't help his issues with comparing himself to others and getting discouraged, but they weren't the main cause. Ducals being cooler than you is expected after all :p

Remember that a lot of his issues were exacerbated due to the increased overt conflict. The Duchess asked for less rules because it would make the Outer Sect a pressure cooker. Under less strain, I believe he could've addressed his issues or grown in a more controlled way than what he was forced to endure. It was the competition that forced everyone into overdrive and to look for new avenues. He simply couldn't adapt fast enough.

He didn't even have a proper Way by that point, children don't have their entire future broken because their life changed.

The Elders are talking from the perspective of Sovereigns and warriors, where a major defeat like that actually is crippling because nobody will give you the chance to recover. An early Green does not have enough solidified mass to shatter like that, though they might fall off the Sovereign Track, which is what the Argent Sect is generally trying to foster anyway.

Fan Yu's self-confidence has been blown to bits and shows no signs of recovery if he thinks his talented juniors are going to pass him no matter what he tries.

If he continues to think that way, then it will be that way. Xiulan was right, he really is pathetic. All that generational wealth behind him and he can't even bring himself to try.
Don't count him out yet, and he doesn't deserve this much hate. He was just a kinda mean guy. I'm hoping for the Fan Yu comeback arc during war. I think something new, like a new threat and friends can start him on a strong Way.

I mean he was straight-up extremely racist and classist, so I think the hate is understandable. Him pulling himself together and becoming a better person would be great, but I don't honestly feel that bad if he just languishes in obscurity and mediocrity.

I don't think he stood out as a bad person, he was somewhat of a typical noble at the start. And his comments were pretty surface level. At this point, he's definitely grown from that mindset, especially since he, like most others, was a young teen who cracked under pressure. I honestly don't think he should suffer just because of that. Ultimately, he was just a butthole.

I'm not inclined to forgive teenagers who hurl racial slurs until they demonstrate actual growth, which he really hasn't.

As a character, he definitely has some growing to do but he also just hasn't really been in the story. Which I hope he'll be in just because it'll be interesting to see him grow

Quick, someone write to the Ma sisters so we can recruit their potter family and bring them into Snowblossom!
In all seriousness, though, I genuinely want to do that. We need subordinate, artisan clans and we also need to start producing things besides extracting resources.
And now we have the ideal excuse. It just fits too perfectly.

So each of the exotic materials require their own, still undetermined, Project to start harvesting them. Fair enough.
We'll have to wait for the specifics but I don't think they will so good as to gain precedence over the Shrines, Boats, Wall and Granary.
Those are highest priority before the war arc.

Also, Snowblossom's blessings can already be seen.
Fishery now produces double the Ag that the Fields (2 Ag per Manpower vs only one) and it has 6 slots.
Shouldn't we just move the 3 MP on the Fields to fill up the Fishery? Unlike the Pastures with the sheep, it's not like anything bad will happen to the Fields if left alone, right?

A reminder that fan yu was implied to be classist due to trying to lean too hard into golden fields expectation for men to cover up his gentle and unsure nature.

Gu Ai even says that he is meek and a failure not because he's pathetic, but due to acting a way he's not suited for and only mildly talented rather then a genius, and xiulan wasn't a match for his personality.
I assume you mean Ai Xiaoli, Xiulan's mom? This is what she thought:

The Mirror - Tales of Destiny

At the top of the tallest tower in Phoenix Home, Ai Xiaoli watched the army marching from the outer gates of the city. From her perch upon the fragile (...)
Ai Xiaoli's brow crinkled in distaste. That Fan boy. No, it was beneath her to blame a child for having little talent. Not when it was she who had been so eager to set the match at an age before such things could be certain. The Fan were among the wealthiest clans in the province, their support would give further pause to the Han and her instincts had taught her to strike where she saw an opening. Her daughter should have been secure and happy, with a talented and respectable husband.
Mind you she's talking out of her ass about him having little talent. He reached third realm early enough that he'd have been made a Baron if he was a commoner. He just looks like scrub because of all the people with protagonisium running around.

The Geniuses shined, the Talented prospered. All it took was the above-average to look merely middling, and the average to lack-luster. Those who might be the backbone cultivators, the average that filled the roles everyone needs, broken, made slag in the crucible of conflict for more funding.
