Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
Yu Jiu directly targets Ling Qi flawed spiritual avoid.

By contrast Liang He means Ling gets to test her new dodge insight/evolution.

EDIT: He even has a poor spiritual armor (and his s. dodge is B rank while Ling Qi hit is A rank).

I really wish that we could have challenges that are less straight duels. Having a chance to buff up or take the enemy by surprise would be nice.

Hm. It looks like both of these are kinda tough targets, with duel boy being pretty tough to tag but being pretty vulnerable to the death spiral after a solid hit while the girl seems to be very spiritual combat focused. I would not at all be surprised if she was packing a ton of dispels in addition to whatever secret power she's hiding.

This actually might be a bit tricky we are needing to fight people with Spirit Beasts well little brother is sleeping and we still have to pay the Qi upkeep.

Still I wonder how Liang He will deal with us flying?

[] Liang He, Disciple 790

A tricky situation. Had a nice chat about it in discord but basically what it comes down to for me is that Yu Jiu looks too much like counterspell bait. Liang He looks like a much more straightforward affair that, while still not a pushover, will be more easily predicted and as such more easily handled.

Eeeee Meizhen

Meizhen had reached the Foundation level of Green, even if her physical cultivation wasn't there yet.
Huh, Meizhen is actually going slower than I expected.

We should be looking at being peak appraisal in month 5, and also Foundation Green with any luck.

At least Renxiang's doing alright. If she hadn't gotten foundation this month we'd have to give her shit.

Ling Qi gave her a silent look. The wind stirred, a lone breeze enhancing the moment. Internally she thanked Sixiang.
Woo! High five!

Best spirit.

~~
Anyway, I wanna bully fire boy. Fire is most bulliable :V

That being said, with Zhengui asleep illusion girl might be safer. Sixiang is much more useful against her.

Yu Jiu definitely seems like she is hiding something. Challenging her would probably be more 'interesting', but I think we want a straightforward duel this time.

Physical: Avoid B8-B13 (Stealth env 5); Armor C25-B15 (Low light 5, Sound 10, Poison/Disease 5)

Offense (spiritual)
Music (FVM): Hit A13; Penetration C28
Music (FSS): Hit A13; Penetration B13

Domain Weapon
Hit: B25; Penetration: A
Avoid: B5; Armor: B5

The biggest danger of the guy is his spirit beast, as well as that he does win the initiative. However, our Avoid is not that much lower than his hit, and our own hit and pen are significantly higher than his own s.def. Likewise, our Domain Weapon will be able to hurt him easily.

I expect him to surprise us with much better arts than obvious, but I am doubtful he has anything better than FSS on the offence, and with our new resist art he won't be able to dispel HR. Defence wise, SCS and TRF are a potency lower than his own attack arts, but they should be good enough to matter anyway.

Basically, Aria+Echo/GCD beginning to give us the necessary armour/defence to not be hurt too much, and then HR+TRF (HRA should be particularly effective) and at that point he will have a HR he can't dispel on him and won't be able to hurt us much through Echoes/GCD/HRA.

So, for challenging and succeeding at challenging the 790-799 rank, here are the rewards we can expect.

775-800: 2 green stone +40 yellow, second floor access reduced to 20 points. Standard Argent vent
Which is pretty nice. An increase of 1 green stone, Second floor access reduced and a Standard Argent Vent. Some pretty major increases. It also means that we'll be playing with the big boys. So none of these fights will be easy for us.

Hmm, thematically freezing a metaphorical representation of Xiulan builds off our recent mastery of FSS.

The illusionist fight otoh builds off our recent gains with Sixiang.

It may be worth considering that for all we know Duel Boy's pride (and maybe a pinch of uncertainty regarding what Six is capable of) will mean the duel is an actual 1v1, so I dunno how much consideration his spirit beast and Zhengui's absence merits.
It's not something we should completely ignore, but we ought to evaluate a no Six or birb rule as well.

Have to win first though. Having a proper duel will be a good benchmark to see if LQ can thrive in these kind of situations also and not just "I will take you all on" fights like in the Caverns.

I am a bit worried though.

Illusionist has that "20% chance she is hiding her true power level meta" going on with her, so I am a bit wary.

Nice to see Meizhen again; she remains hugable ^-^

The engagement talk sounds seriously bad, but well. Social expectations and it's probably still years... or decades... off for her. Maybe she can rig something there.
The interactions were pretty neat and Sixiang is fun. Fefe would probably explode hearing someone talk like that to Meizhen.
Cultivation speed and challenge tempo remains curious, given the goal Shenhua set. Not seeing yet how that could work out, I guess we have to stumble upon a minor cheat at least.

Regarding the current challenge, I agree that Yu Jiu might be more interesting but also more dangerous and is likely to hide something.
Liang He is certainly a strong fighter and a direct fight with him won't be easy, especially considering his spirit beast. But like Arkeus said, we should have the advantage nonetheless and we can *fly*. Unless Liang He has a good answer to flight in Green, I see him at a severe disadvantage if he goes for a direct battle challenge.

... Could he twist the challenge into something about 'formal duel with pure swordplay' or 'tactics and strategy'? A soldier background doesn't mean he can *only* face punch after all.
Still, Liang He is probably the more reasonable target.

In my opinion, the duelist would be best: a higher ranked disciple, beaten in his specialty would be the most rewarding socially. After all, Ling Qi is a retainer of the Cai Heir and going after easy looking targets would be dishonorable in the long run. Let's be confident in our skills and face actual challenges!

Here's a reason to challenge 790 this time, especially if we don't have to pull out all our new cards[1] : It gives us 10 ranks of breathing room to slide down safely over the next 2 turns, useful since we'd be really hard pressed to spare the AP for another challenge up until turn 6.

Plus, if it looks like we won because we have a good matchup (cold-style spiritual Arts + strong armor+dodge Arts = we can out-dps him in what looks like a "conventional" fight, like we did Ji Rong in the tournament), which makes us a more attractive challenge target to those that think they have us figured out.

[1] namely, CtE, and I don't think we've used Echoes in a fight before, and the extent to which FVM got buffed isn't obvious. Also keeps Sixiang's existence and power gain non-obvious.

yeah, the problems with the illusionist is that

1) we have no intention to challenge the next 2 turns, so we need a buffer to compensate for rank loss those turns

2) we cant be sure that she will fight, she could just as easily make it some other contest

3) she could be hiding her strength and be the more difficult fight (maybe)

While I do like challenging Liang He myself, I am cautious about it. If the duel is determined to be "First Blood" then Liang He's slight initiative advantage could give him a really good shot at launching the first strike which could be a problem.

Aren't spiritual attacks our weakness ? Because that's what I got from the previous discussion about arts.

Also dang, meizhen and Cai are taking their sweet time getting to foundation. Trying for some special insights to slot in maybe ?

Swordboi is definitely who I'm favoring, he's quite weak to us, especially in the spiritual department. I do sorta worry about what other competitions he may choose to challenge us on.
