[X] Seek a mutual apology. And better work practices, even if it delays construction and makes the hall a bit less grand. (Improves Mutual opinion between civilians. 20% Chance that project will come short of goals, reducing benefits. Loss of face if incomplete)

A bit of a wobble on first collaboration is forgivable, it may give us a weaker negotiating position this time around but if so it'll hopefully set up a more stable foundation for future efforts.

I didn't get the impression there's a lot of border pressure or detailed surveys so loss of face shouldn't directly result in the empire ceding a bunch of territory with spirit stone mines when borders are made official. To me that'd be the biggest negative outside of everything falling apart.

People generally don't become cuddlier if you dig deeper.
Jin Tae comes of, at best, as uncaring, and pretty much all of his suggestions have been anti thetical to our goals.
Which is not surprising, because he is Jin, and MoI, and both are generally opposed to what we are doing.

It may not be even intentional opposition, he is just culturally against the idea of co operation with outsiders, and not taking advantage when possible.

[X] Seek a mutual apology. Pull additional translators and workers for better rotation of shifts and hopefully keep the stress down. (20% chance of additional negative event during summit. Project definitely completes on time.)

On the one side, we have a 20% chance of guaranteed disappointment. On the other side, we have a 20% chance of something bad that we can address and handle. It's a little hard to put into words, but I feel like I prefer the option that keeps our fate in our hands.

We don't actually know what kind of negative event it will be, or how bad it might be.
It might be just another quick roll, might take actual AP to solve, might force us to make some concessions we don't like.

Also option 2 gives actual benefits, instead of just potential downsides.

I mean, Meizhen, Xiulan, and Su Ling were pretty cuddly in their own way once we got to know them past their cold/confrontational/rough exterior!

Look, I'm not going to pretend to like what I've seen of the Jin, but I do feel like people are exaggerating a bit. Their way isn't random violence for its own sake, they're doing it for a comprehensible purpose and we can expect them to be swayed by appeals to that purpose.
"It is, like your context, good to know but beside the point. Though swords have not yet been drawn this is a conflict. I admit, I find you strange, Lady Ling. If you wish to avoid conflict so, why are you so determined to present a yielding face to the world, guaranteeing that it comes sooner?"

He sounded honestly perplexed. Was it because when she spoke her words, he could know she was being sincere in her intentions? "I do not believe I am being yielding, only fair and just. Evenhanded impartiality is my Lady's way. A stable and predictable face is better than either cringing or high handed aggression."

"How you are perceived matters more than your intent."
This bit in particular is illuminating, in that it's basically just mainline Bai ideology. Peace through deterrence; you stake your territory, you look big and threatening to anyone who looks like they might mess with you, you harshly punish trespasses, and then you barely ever have to fight anyone because they know what your redlines are. They're just approaching the idea from an angle of "pirate captain" instead of "snake". Not a kind idea, or one we much want associated with the project, but meaningfully distinct from "always defect with outsiders".

I'd say that Meizhen, Xiulan and Su Ling changed over time to become cuddlier.
Now, Jin Tae might be traumatized teenager putting up a hard front and we can befriend and turn our ally.
But i somewhat doubt it.

He's a cultivator who's talented enough to earn a mentorship with someone famous from the MoI, teenage trauma is basically a requirement to reach those heights. :V

Reducing benefits is not eliminating benefits. I'd rather have 20% fall short chance plus a guaranteed mutual opinions boost between the civilians than a chance of further Bad Things.

I'd be willing to chip in my two omake points for this roll (sidestories give two, right?). So with a theoretical 0% chance of coming short of goals, we'll improve mutual opinions between civilians, complete the project, not lose any face.
nevermind, saw that we can't use omake points.

I feel if we are gonna roll against DC 20, we might as well take an option that gives additional benefits.

So the assured benefits of each option are "Improved Mutual opinion between civilians" and "Project definitely completes on time".
The risks are 20% chance of "Coming short of goals" and "Negative Event mystery box". No Omake points applicable.
From these, the negative event seems far more serious. The coming short of goals just means reduced benefits, not losing them all. So unless we roll under a 10% it shouldn't be too bad.

We all knew that the shared construction project was kinda overambitious. Honestly, that it comes to a 20% chance of reduced benefits is already quite a success for such a rushed endevour.

Edit:
Her tail froze as Ling Qi blasted off a wave of sickening qi that stank of wine and sweat, and That nasty tree ghoul the Princess toted around flickered and reappeared.
Just noticed this @yrsillar, didn't Qi use one of Renxiang's techniques in a Qi card to break Dharitri's stealth-defence?

I worry about the possible loss of face given we might not be able to anchor this agreement with anything more serious, but still this seems better
