Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
Honestly, the "spirits in mine while checking for resources" sounds like it is slightly more likely to run into an ethical dilemma compared to "demolish old house"

And I spent 3 hours discussing what 'coercion' means with... someone of a different political perspective than me. Three hours.

I want seven things:

1. Hugs
2. The ability to count
3. To look forward to something that is likely to lead to ethically simple choices
4. A fucking massive floofy doggo to cuddle

Man I know romance isn't really a major focus of the quest but Bao being literally the only suitor really drags on my senses, especially since I don't like him at all — the prospect of the first option being effectively the only option looms large in my mind.

[X] There is an old mine in the east which needs both checking for renewed deposits and cleared of spirits and wildlife.

Mines!! Always mines!!

Uh excuse me the first option is living his best life in the desert with his crow buddy getting shown up by xanxia Lara Croft

Since both of these locations belong to people we're doing the missions for, I consider them to have an equal non-chance of loot. It's going to generally be inappropriate to pocket stuff we run across in both cases, especially anything linked to the locale directly.

[] There is an abandoned manor on a southern baron's lands left behind during a post Ogodei invasion which he would like exorcised and demolished.
Poking around in the ruins of a broken home linked to an influential historical context is hitting a lot of Ling Qi's theme buttons.

It would also be a good opportunity for Bao Qian to comment on that period of history. Ling Qi knows broad strokes, but it's a lot realer for him, who is part of a great clan that was engaged in its own territorial transformations in the same time period, even if they were on the other end of the province. It'd be cool to potentially learn more about the Bao clan's semi-recent history, especially because we're staring down some interesting trade opportunities in the coming decades. Getting an insider view over just their rep is useful information in deciding how closely we want to work with them. And more specifically, it'd be interesting to get a closer look at Bao Qian's bearing on some of those events we might discuss. The way someone relates to their own family's actions can tell you a lot about them, and it seems particularly pertinent for Ling Qi.

Arguably, the location's proximity to Ling Qi's Way, in many ways, could be seen as giving Bao Qian a more visceral look at her character than vice versa.

[] There is an old mine in the east which needs both checking for renewed deposits and cleared of spirits and wildlife.

We don't know a huge amount about mining, and this could be an opportunity to broaden our understanding there a bit. It is up Bao Qian's alley. Mining interests are also something we'll want to consider surveying for when we move into our pioneer phase, so it's not a bad thing to get a look at.

Arguably, the venture has much closer proximity to Bao Qian's expertise, and presumably Way, so it could be the option of the two that gives more direct insight into his character.

On the other hand, the other option could give a look at sides of him less explored already, which might appeal more to a given voter. I'm leaning manor, but not desperately.

We don't know a ton about Bao Qian, but it seems that:
We have similar interests along the lines of self-empowerment and self-determination.
We are very passionate about our work.
We are flexible in our approach of the goal we have.
We are dedicated to that goal.
We are both interested in fostering new growth.

I actually think both will be very interesting. One is more Bao Qian's element but we're familiar with caves (having trained and fought in them often). The other is familiar to us (we've done exorcisms and had a whole trial in a simulacrum of the invasion), but we don't know Bao Qian's relation to it at all. Could be awesome.

I'll be happy with either choice

I can't help but suspect that what Ling Qi learns from clearing the mine and collecting the deposits found within will be relevant when she establishes her own mine in her new domain. So I'm favoring the mine option.

But he isn't the first?

Hell, if you count Xuan Shi, sir Bao is the third husbando (not counting Meizhen the waifu) to try their luck against Mt. Qi.

Edit: Oh sheet I forgot about Meizhen. Dishonor on my cow.

What can I say, shiny rocks are the best.

Hmmm...I'd count Shen Hu, may he RIP, as much as I'd count Xuan Shi. Both are/were shy types that got dangled in front of Ling Qi. Gu Tai and Bao Qian OTOH have actively courted Ling Qi.

Personally I'm more up for Cultivator Resident Evil than Cultivator Minecraft, I think.

Both are good options but for some reason I just like the manor option better. We've done caves before so this'll be something new. There was that one side story about a lower 2nd realm dealing with a less haunted house. It'll be interesting to see how two third realms (actually is Bao Qian 3rd or 4th?) deal with a similar problem.

Underground exploration seems an unnecessary risk and not a good setting for a casual outing

The other option need to be "cleared of spirits". While some may be convinced to go away, some may need to be killed. I'd like to avoid doing that for now.

I am deeply sorry to inform you that the corporate office has examined your second request and determined that such things are inconsequential to your performance.

I like the history aspect of it. It also seems likely to be a gloomy, sobering outing, which I appreciate for its juxtaposition with Bao Qian's likely objectives and related expectations. Essentially, bringing your date to a place that turns out to be a downer, and one that she has peculiarly intimate resonance with, seems like it would be a failure state. But Ling Qi is a goth so actually it's a positive development.

Confusing Bao Qian brings me joy.
