Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
Sell it to the Meng and we strengthen one faction whose interests appear to align with our own. Keep it for ourself and we can strengthen multiple internal factions whose interests appear to align with our own. More than that even, any internal faction that wants to strengthen their own bloodline claims might actively decide they want to make their interests align with our own, in order to gain access to the tapestry.
I somehow doubt any clan interested in using it for such a purpose would admit the existence of those types of issues to an outsider. This is before factoring in the lose of face from needing to reference something the clan does not own in politics.

They don't need to say WHY they want to use it, in order to ask to use it.

For the tapestry I can see a couple:
-We could trade it to Meng Dan for favors and relationship boost.
-We could trade it to one of the major libraries, but noting that such things are often purged when what they say do not match politics.
-We could make it open access eventually, let those who wish to know of their lineage learn. This probably would be more involved though, we can't just let everyone at it without making the spirit grumpy.

If we go open path we have to work out agreement with Cai or another of Clans to make rental deal with or to let others see it as if kept in our home or on Ling Qi posession she'll be attacked.

Nevermind Duosi the loser, what causes me to arch a brow is this tidbit:

'Illegitimate'.
...
Ling Qi frowned. That was, well about what she should have expected. If there was going to be a tangential connection to her, it would have to be something like that, wouldn't it? Her great however many times grandmother had probably been a handmaiden or a servant who had caught this Duosi's eye. Ling Qi could feel the tapestry spirit practically glowering at her.

"Wow, jerk," Sixiang startled her a little, leaning over her shoulder to stare at the names. "She's still around, pretty sure that makes her more legitimate than a bunch of dead people."

Duosi's illegitimate daughter is "still around" and not dead? Ling Qi's great-great-great-etc..-grandmother would need to be a super heavyweight cultivator to be alive after several thousand years.

@yrsillar Am I reading Sixiang's comment correctly?

Sixiang is referring to LQ herself as being alive. Since, you know, she is alive. And thus 'more legitimate'.

Why didn't Sixiang say "You're" instead of "She's" then? Sixiang and Ling Qi often mentally communicate and I suppose I'm assuming Sixiang would have been aware of Ling Qi's assertion regarding her "great however many times grandmother" immediately before Sixiang made that comment.

I imagine the final result of doing that would be a rather involved bureaucratic process, probably also with an exam.

It'd look rather onerous to us, but for any up and coming scholars without major ties to the Blue Mountain or an ancient Clan it'd be extremely helpful regardless.

Sixiang was talking to the Tapestry.

I for one am interested in the idea of renting the tapestry. We don't really have the chops to protect it, but renting it to another clan would put the burden of protection on them while we should be able to wiggle in access clauses in case we want to use for research.

Also the Weilu had secret palaces. This is very exciting news and has my heart racing for Indiana Jones, cultivator edition.

Or... we could feed it to our dress.

Oh look, it's not, in fact, the lost map to Atlantis. We are just going to get a pile of cash or something equivalent for it.

Who'd have thought?
Oh look! It's explicitly an accounting of the Weilu. And later generations happened to have secret palaces they retreated too.

Nobody said that this was a map. What was said was that the Weilu had hidden cities, turns out to be palaces and confirmed this update, and that the tapestry would have a lot of information with which we could stitch clues together, which the tapestry does since it has the accounting of a nobody.

Yeah, I'm sure we will be able to somehow find a palace full of loot from this. It's not like this was an idea pulled out of nowhere, right?

"We of the Emerald Sea are not like the Bai, who mastered the Thousand Lakes with an iron fisted Queen ruling by rivership and serpentine spies. Nor do our people have the near fanatical community of the Zheng, to allow their lazy anarchy to reign for tens of millenia without visible internal dissent. What many choose to ignore is that the people of the Emerald Seas have always been many tribes. Even after the Sage came, and demanded a King who could kneel to him, this did not change."
Really, tell us how you really feel.

In all seriousness, I really liked this chapter, and I would be disappointed to simply give up on the Tapestry for mere monetary compensation. It's clear that the book and tapestry have information spanning millennia of the Weilu rule, and I find that information fascinating. Not an unexpected outcome of poking the tapestry, but it does prove that pretty much everyone in the Emerald Seas has some of the Forest Kings' blood in them. I wonder how that affects any items that need Weilu blood to function? Can any of them be operated by the people of the Emerald Seas, or does it require a specific level of purity?

I'm interested in exploring this tapestry more and figuring out the hidden information that has been secreted between the threads.

There is an entire sect dedicated to learning and finding secrets from a dragon god palace. A palace thousands of years older than the Tsu the diviner. I am confident that these Weilu palace still exist and are findable.

You can doubt all you want, but a lot of people have been very interested in the secrets of the Weilu and the possiblity of this tapestry helping unravel them seems to be a large part of why it won.

Yeah, and we are neither an entire sect nor looking for a dragon god palace.

It seems to me you found a head canon you really like and ran away with it.

But who knows, maybe Yrs will have mercy and humor you. But so far, there has been zero indication that the sort of thing you claim is in there.

I would like to keep sassy tapestry-chan around so we can have all our friends touch it with their dirty, non-Tsu hands. It can make for a good party game and ice breaker! :D

You joke, but I could see someone politically savvy enough to actually swing that and have it be politicaly beneficial somehow.

Definitely not Ling Qi, and probably not even CRX, but maybe if Shenhua decides to meddle and invites the young scions of other clans to join a party hosted by CRX to have them join the novelty of touching poor tapestry-chan.
