It ain't really making her a tank. (Or I should say, they both do in different ways)I like mirror more. I actively dislike turning Ling Qi into a tank. I like the control theme more and I think it's more useful.
I don't think there's much point myself. Nor am I confident that we actually could.
Between the two Mirror is more like how Meizhen does things with ridiculous defense and a counter, while the Thousand Years is more about laying down another control field.
Between the two Thousand Years is more control directed than Mirror is.
I'm not sure if we can, I still have a feeling that he could escape any time by just swimming trough earth and no one one other than Guan Zhi will be able to get him there.I don't think there's much point myself. Nor am I confident that we actually could.
I think it's less our allies removed our advantage and more that Shishigui get more dangerous the closer they are to defeat, not less. As LQ said, their most powerful techniques rely on sacrifice. So the moment they have nothing to lose is the moment they're most likely to take their opponents down with them.Ok, so my reactions:
w. regards to our upgrades...
- Eeeeeeeee! Elder so coool \o/
- Narrative beats kinda feel off here - we were doing almost excessively well on our own, but then once our allies arrive and we start getting buffs things begin to blow up? It feels like we had a ninjutsu advantage before and then our allies just removed it. Kinda runs antithetical to the themes of the setting...
Enlightenment's Unbreaking Mirror feels kinda off tbh. I don't feel like it fits [The Mist] or our je ne sai quoi as well. The imagery and the general counterattack theme aren't really how we do things.
Thousand Year Impenetrable Mist otoh fits great in terms of imagery and themes, and really fits our general approach and defensive priorities of "keep all us and all our friends alive".
The C rank damage reduction and more specifically the "one attack can't kill you" effect, which is basically a perfect example of Control cultivators being annoying zone and force controllers since you have to take them out first before you can really lay into their allies.

Something to note is that the green ones and twos surviving is by itself a perception/hit/dodge/armour debuff, considering how multi attacks and support tech works. Of course it depends how huge the tech's debuffs would be, but I doubt it would be more than multi attackes + support techs would grant. The green ones and twos? They're probably toast, but the important named people are plausibly strong enough to survive. But frankly this is a sort of move one uses when one is done fighting and just wants to get out so a Perception/Hit/Dodge debuff is mainly useful for trying to kill the G7 Shishigui before he escapes, at the expense of some folks on our side.
I like Impenetrable Mist more because I like the flavor text better, and also Mirror tech's range is only limited within the MIST which is meh for me.
The mist being reliable is really a selling point to me. The more I think about it, and the more Enlightement basically need a sweet spot of "at least A rank damage after every other defences are penetrated, but not S rank because that would kill allies", and that's, huh, not reliable to me.

Yeah, there is definitely the feeling that Ling Qi suddenly began to get hurt and get much lower on Qi only after allies arrive. I agree that "one woman against many" scene is awesome, but given the setting is about being in a group actually is an advantage I think the conservation of ninjutsu in this update was a bit much.
Proceed to look at our Domain and what it does, it's a controller cultivators domain and it has a particular focus on negating damage and boosting defenses.
As Ark says here basically. Control ain't just rooting or forced movement or qi drain or debuffs or damage or armor or defense or illusions. Its all of those things which make it hell to actually fight a team with a control cultivator, because that's their job.Being able to just go and say "I don't have to worry about allies dying in one go" is really good for controlling the battlefied imo.
Thank you! I was gonna say, I think Yrs has done a good job in the past few updates showing LQ being a badass but it still being a serious challenge for her. She's been fighting a while now, going all out while being outnumbered. So naturally shes low on qi by now. And tired and wounded. And naturally the G7 kicked it up a notch once reinforcements started showing up.What are you guys talking about? The damage is a result of slow accumulation/attrition and the dangerous attack a result of a suicide attack/last resort. Both of them seem to imply we winning, its just that 1) we were fighting for quite a while and 2) the enemy has a good last resort cuz that is how the Shishigui work.
Sorry, I forgot you had replied to me. The stat debuff does stick for "a short time," which definitely opens the enemy up to getting hit from multiple sources, but otherwise, I think I agree with you. TYIM seems like the best choice here. The stat debuff is only for attacks against Ling Qi personally, and it looks like it's only for attacks that hit while she's activating.
EUM is a lot better for Ling Qi herself wanting to win fights. It will absolutely help Ling Qi win some fights. It's mostly a tanking art. TYIM instead is all about keeping your allies alive. Either one would be useful here, but they do almost entirely different things.
It's the best damage reduction we've ever seen, iirc. Ling Qi literally couldn't hurt a Ling Qi using it. And for a short duration. It's pretty good.Loads of good points. I just have trouble understanding how valuable the C- rank damage reduction is.
Ah. I was unclear. In order to get the debuff to stick, you need to use the art on the specific incoming attack. The debuff itself then lasts for a short while, yes.Sorry, I forgot you had replied to me. Well tbh the AM insight has become an integral part of our personality and cultivator identity. Its what kickstarted our whole Sincerety schtick. Just saying. Also people have talked about how Mirror seems like it builds off AM, while Impenetrable Mist builds of TRF - but the thing here is that we haven't really used that AM tech at all - certainly not this year. While Impenetrable Mist has a nice callback to our use of TRU back in the village attack, and would better show off the idea of our slotted arts influencing our domain that seems to be going on here.
I don't really agree with either of you here. Both of them are defensive abilities, just with different focuses. They have the following differences:
Yes, but the way AM has been important to us and used in story don't relate to this tech - it's been primarily social, and for dispelling back in Forge.Well tbh the AM insight has become an integral part of our personality and cultivator identity. Its what kickstarted our whole Sincerety schtick. Just saying.
Sincerity schtick isn't "The TRUTH SEARS YOU". An insight isn't by itself "all the techs of the arts", and Tranquil Rebuke might or might have been used once in LQ's life (I think? against a plant monster when hunting?).Well tbh the AM insight has become an integral part of our personality and cultivator identity. Its what kickstarted our whole Sincerety schtick. Just saying.
Ling Qi's reaction to Hanyi getting knocked out of the fight mirrors her reaction to the idea of Zhengui being harmed: a full-powered Call to Ending. Perhaps this might be used as evidence to set against Hanyi's insecurities, if she worries about how Ling Qi has a lesser bond with her than her actual sister and brother.Hanyi rematerialized in an instant, clutching her neck and the ugly black welt that stretched across her throat.
The caldera shook with the stamping of paws and hooves, and the air vibrated with roars and brays of reveling beasts, a hundred voices raised not in cheer, but demand. Ling Qi's song rose into the shriek of a blizzard, rising until it became silence.
While we're all debating the merits of how Ling Qi is responding to the sacrificial attack, can I also note Cai Renxiang is here, also. Who's Domain integrated her desire for purity. Perhaps even its Awakened form being set as knife and bulwark against a literal concentrated and explosive fragment of a world of filth and impurity. Maybe it's not in Cai Renxiang's character to evolve and advance in the best of battle, but all the other pieces are set in place for a climatic upgrade for Renxiang.Cai Renxiang's radiance bloomed, and her features were lost, leaving only a silhouette of light as she plowed through the sludge and leveled Cifeng, a great bulwark of colorless light blooming between them and the blooming knot of corruption.
That's a fair assessment yeah. Personally I like the narrative for Mist better since it reads as more outright protective to me and basically an answer to this line:I don't really agree with either of you here. Both of them are defensive abilities, just with different focuses. They have the following differences:
EUM:
TYIM
- Acts against a single technique. (or perhaps multiple at the same time - point is it doesn't linger.)
- Requires we be targeted.
- Requires the attack be in the mist. (Discord seems to imply that the origin of the attack needs to be in the mist, but I suspect Yrs misunderstood the question.)
- Damage mitigation is better against attacks above B rank damage after all other reductions. (Tied at B.)
- Contains a counterattack. This is a reasonable impact effect, but not enough of one to make it devastating with its short duration and the cost and difficulty of repeating it. Nice to have, but it isn't the point of the tech.
LQ herself is going to have enough durability that EUM is better for her when it comes to surviving overwhelming hits, unless they're overwhelming enough to kill her outright. It's mostly about our allies.
- Acts for a short while.
- Requires the targets of the attack be in the mist.
- Damage Mitigation is better against attacks below B rank damage after all other reductions. (Tied at B.)
- Includes a save from death
EUM is better if we want to duel or fight alongside peers. It's also better for retreating.
TYIM is better if we want to keep weaker allies alive through a nuke. It's also usable against more sustained damage.
I would say this is less Tank vs Control and more Duel vs Support. If you have to tie things together that way, EUM pulls ahead the better the people it's protecting are at tanking, while TYIM is better for protecting more fragile allies.
That said, I wouldn't really bother with the mechanics on this one - it's a domain vote, the long-term domain consequences are more significant than the immediate uses. So I'm thinking of it more as a theme vote than one on practical effect.
The answer she gave to that was that she could only die. Mist reads to me like her attempting to go, with this lesser attack she can actually reasonably deal with or a threat that is overwhelming but is closer in power to her, "I will protect this anyway" more so than Mirror does.
