Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Anyway.

I'm thinking we fort up, it puts an asset on the table that Renxiang can make use of, and remember that our presence is also giving her our Bond 3 buffs. If she's in range, we can even throw Harmony based buffs out on her once our build is fully spooled up.

She knows what she's doing, let's fort the fuck up and get ready for whatever the next step is.

Ling Qi was not sure she liked the way the woman was staring at Hanyi.
The only difference was that now the foreigner was looking at her.
The second case was in response to Ling Qi using ice techniques for the first time in the fight, if I'm reading things correctly.

White Sky haven't jumped in yet. One possible advantage to spreading our fire - they're pretty obviously the only group not being targeted, whereas if we'd tried to hit obliterate one group at a time they might have assumed they were somewhere down the list and moved by now.

But they still could move, and given the icewoman's interests, they might move for Ling Qi in particular.

How easily grabbing Ling Qi looks to be might influence what they do next.

correct me if I'm wrong, it's been a while so I don't remember clearly, but wasn't there something about Hanyi's mom wanting to devour her to be whole or more powerful or something? is there a similar situation here?
Might be. Hanyi was a part of Zeqing, broken off to slowly develop into her own person. And Zeqing was a piece of greater winter that broke off and stayed behind as the South Glaciers retreated millennia ago.

[] Fortress up with Zhengui around the starstone, drive the barbarians away from it and try to eliminate any who would interfere with Renxiang's duel.
[] Assist Cai Renxiang immediately, bringing your spirits with you. Ducal heiress or no, he has three stages on her. He seems to be the only one who can immediately pull the starstone out of play anyway.

I think it's to early to assist CRX. We would just turn one vs one fight into two vs many. I say we draw attention of others and let them be crushed by our defences

I'm really feeling Renxiang's mood here.

I could quote bits from the update but not feeling it, it pretty much went like I expected barring the White Sky being even more annoying.

Question @yrsillar, have only the two Appraisal Shishigui and the one Shishigui aligned cloud tribe guy died? Wanna make sure I didn't miss anyone in my enemy casualty count.

There was a muffled sound of displaced air as Zhengui appeared in midair, falling with the force of a meteor toward the center of the cavern, Hanyi clinging to his back. Cold stone warmed to heat, as stones were made to remember their fire, and the ground rock as a plume of lava roared forth, launching the Starstone into the air.
🌠 As Wind thief does we threw the meteor away and used it to destroy our betters!

Edit: I hoped for Meteor shenanigans and I got it. I am Happy! ☄ :V
Near a hundred arrows fell upon her position, even as warriors shouted in outrage. Theory crackled with lightning, screamed with wind and whispered with frost, and Ling Qi wove through them like wind through the rain, spiraling down to Zhengui, who stomped forward, head down toward the Starstone.
Only A DODGE build like LQ with her spirits could survive something like this consistenly at her level. For everyone else this would cost soo much Qi it would make them useless for the rest of the fight. Ling Qi is truly a certified monster of her generation.
forcing her to flow between droplets or be burned.
Not even Piccolo could do this. LQ has not even met him and she has already realized the true advantage of DODGE! Make the impossible possible and not die immediately to corruption poison fluid.

I tend towards: [] Assist Cai Renxiang immediately, bringing your spirits with you. Ducal heiress or no, he has three stages on her. He seems to be the only one who can immediately pull the starstone out of play anyway.

a handful of the yellow doods died to artillery and Ling qi took out 1 of the g1's with elegy, but otherwise yes. Well the guiys who got their everything broken by Guan Zhi aren't actually fighting fit yet.

Hmm ice lady is interested in us and i think thats interesting tho maybe dangerous.

More interesting however would be to see how she responds to our ultimate song of the end attack. Cus from what i understand, that attack encapsulated what zeqing WAS. Which from the new RR interlude seems to be one of ice ladies people. And us knowing that tech would be very....intruiging to her i think.

This was, she knew going to be dangerous.
A comma after "knew"
Around her were arrayed so many powerful cultivators.
Arrayed around her were so many powerful cultivators.
side of the Caldera,
I think caldera is lowercase, not sure though.
but she knew was enough.
Missing a "what", what she knew was enough.
descended into chaos of the caldera
Missing "the", the chaos of the caldera.
nd the ground rock as a plume of lava roared forth
"rocked" not "rock"
Ling Qi was not sure she liked the way the woman was staring at Hanyi.
But she didn't have time to think about that.
Just needs a space between the two lines
Theory crackled with lightning, screamed with wind
I think theory is suppose to be the sky, but I'm not sure.
But it wasn't the only one. Her heart almost stopped when she heard Zhengui scream. She whipped around in time to see a second Dancer rising beneath him. Her knife was held two handed as she drove it down into Gui's neck.
Her voice wasn't the only one that rose.
Again, just needs a space between the lines.
strode through Around him
Missing a period I think?
explosion splashed across her back, her ankles as she leapt over a blade
Maybe an "and" instead of the comma?
White sky were yet aloof.
Sky should be capatalized as well I think.
On the ground, those warriors left on the ground climbed painfully to their feet
Use of "on the ground" twice, and then it is used again in the next pharagraph.

The man on his flying horse eyes everyone warily, a spear of glittering glass in his hands, but she could feel his qi drifting out like a warm wind and clean sunlight, bolstering warriors. On the ground, those warriors left on the ground climbed painfully to their feet with renewed vigor, broken limbs straightening out.

The woman remained on the ground, and around her there was cold, stray pebbles and stones, deflected arrows and more that flew toward her, lost all momentum and clattered to rest a dozen meters away.
Hmm. Looking back, I'm less confident on my thoughts regarding White Sky.

I'm guessing the injured our horserider is healing/buffing are Yellow Realms who got wrecked by Guan Zhi's black hole; I'm not sure they're specifically White Sky warriors, though. They're probably not in the best shape to get into the fight even after being healed, so I'm not sure I'd call it a move picking sides.

Arrows are getting flung at the icewoman; that's probably chaff getting launched everywhere by the windstorms, but I can certainly understand the horserider being less-than-willing to believe they're all accidents. Tensions between the White Sky and the rest might be higher than I first thought.

Wind Thief indeed! Our heist with the shiny rock isn't over yet!

Considering the number of enemies who're capable of making us sweat, I'm in favor of forting up especially since one of the dancers is still alive and could steal the stone away from us. Renxiang is a big girl, I'm sure she knows what she's doing.

Good fucking lord, strange things are afoot at the Circle K. Did anyone propose yeeting the starstone with a volcanic plume? I don't remember that idea being floated.
I didn't notice someone saying it, and bloody hell, it was freaking amazing.

Playing ping pong with a chunk of prismatic warpstone the size of a three story building. And of course, if you are going to chuck it, chuck it a your enemies.

There's still a small army around us so I don't believe in putting Renxiang on even footing with the Shishigui. Better to focus on losing less than winning once when we're so heavily outnumbered and outmatched. The thing is tired and wounded and she may still be able to draw on Liming, but all she needs to do is hold on. We get the pleasure of dealing with the dozens of other barbarians until the rest of the assault arrives.

Assuming I'm keeping up correctly. The White Sky tribe are Taghai and his Ice Witch bride who are squeezing the mountain tribes from the North and is using the Empire as an anvil to break them. He wants these guys damaged enough for him to take charge and is using the pseudo-Baba Yaga as outside leverage.

I'm assuming that translates to offering the minimum aid he can get away with this whole encounter, and maybe swiping some loot if he can.

[] Assist Cai Renxiang immediately, bringing your spirits with you. Ducal heiress or no, he has three stages on her. He seems to be the only one who can immediately pull the starstone out of play anyway.

There's two ways to deal with the Starstone:

Fort up on it and try and eat the cloud tribes who come for it while letting Renren handle it, which pits our G4/G3, G2, G1, G2/G1 vs the twelve star guys and the Shishigui's helpers (barbarian and his three buddies).
Jump in with Renren to try and murder the Shishigui G7 and his four supporting units support and the five Twelve Star Guys everyone with a group of a G4, a G4/G3, a G2, a G1 and a G2/G1.

As is I'm not liking the look of our energy and health expenditure for Ling Qi and her spirits if we have to deal with Bardbarian, his three surviving folks, and the five twelve star guys. I think Ling Qi could let Renren duel it out with the Shishigui guy, but frankly I think overall we'd both end up in a worse position in terms of energy expenditure and enemies mission killed since Renren would have to extract us from our fight ball.

If we knock out the Shishigui G7 and injure the barbs helping him then there really isn't anyone unoccupied that can help move the Stone. I don't think he has yet another trump card to pull out. He'd have spent it to keep a hold of the Starstone in my mind.

There is also guy that LQ crushed with Starstone
The Starstone crashed into the middle of them, and the barbarians scattered like pins, but one was too slow, and there was an ugly crunch and a hideous sizzling as the starstone struck him. Ling Qi did not look at what remained when it rolled ponderously away across the scoured ground.
Also...

Only the White Sky barbarians stood unharmed. The man had taken to the air on his winged horse, but the woman stood in a circle of frost. Cloth and fur had become armor, stiffened by blue white rime. A crown of seven points had formed on her brow, and in a hand clad in a gauntlet of ice, she held a scepter of dull iron, its head wrought in the shape of a snarling demon, menacing with spikes.

Ling Qi was not sure she liked the way the woman was staring at Hanyi.
"Stop her!" a man roared, his voice halfway to an eagles shriek himself.
Carried on the Western Wind, Ling Qi moved just as the boil burst, filling the air with a stinking miasma of black smoke that burned and sizzled. She rematerialized beside Zhengui, and met the eyes of the tall Shishigui. The creatures gaze burned with anger, as he leveled his outstretched hand, five more droplets of filth blooming on the tips of his claws.
It seems we somehow aggroed everyone, can as well capitalize on it and fulfill tank roll in this grazy party.

[] Fortress up with Zhengui around the starstone, drive the barbarians away from it and try to eliminate any who would interfere with Renxiang's duel.

More reinforcements are coming, and even if he has three stages she has Liming and Cifeng.

The important way to help her is to stop from people piling on.

A nice opening - the battle itself feels chaotic without the writing being chaotic. There's a definite sense of place and purpose to all actors present which is tough as fuck to pull off.

As for the vote itself...

This is tactically dumb as hell, but I feel that in a shounen, we're the strong character who nevertheless needs to be sidelined by events in the story in order to let the main character shine and fight the big bad Mano a mano.

That said let me put my brain back on.

Shamans hit us with lightning: I'm assuming that was what the lightning from the clouds was about. They're still absent from this party and can presumably take potshots at whomever they want.

The stone is important but if no one can move it, it's just a rock. If we abandon it, other parties need to secure it and that means expending manpower on those that could otherwise be attempting to harm us. Yes, they're long-ranged units, but I'm going to assume that mobile archery units turned into immobile archer units are sitting ducks for when sect forces show up and will get blown to pieces.

Tactically then, it'd be best to abandon the rock, run to support CRX, divide their attention between two objectives and then reclaim control of the rock later - by my read anyway.

It'd be so much cooler to not do that though. :V

Honestly, I'm conflicted.

I thought at least white tribe delegation would flow away. Also I don't think we can afford anything but defence right now, we will just die otherwise.
Functionally, we're kind of in a bad position. With the Bardbarian, his three buddies, and the five twelve star guys aimed at us the amount of force coming at us isn't going to change. The cloud tribe Shishigui helpers and the five twelve star guys are coming either way. The only real variable is how closely we work together with Renxiang in my mind. With her keeping the G7 mostly busy we can strike him and help distract him and get her direct help dealing with our own enemies.

That way leads to less energy spent on ours and hers part in my mind since its concentrating force, and we're also closer to Renxiang if we have to retreat with dreamstep. I'd rather coop and fight with a concentration of force while we're still in some form of good shape.
