Given the way some are arguing for it, I'm not so sure they actually saw that post.
Thanks for reminding me of that though, forgot that the GM had said something about it.

How is talking about a shared interest not a real conversation? He has stated that he enjoys music. Ling Qi likes music. Let's talk about music. I don't see any waffling back and forth here.If people wanted to do this instead of sparring, I don't know why they also don't want to really commit to it and have a real conversation. I wasn't in favor to begin with but we should at least double down and not awkwardly waffle back and forth.
Indeed. Like, hell, talking about music is the thing that most directly relates to his question even! How is talking about a shared interest not a real conversation? He has stated that he enjoys music. Ling Qi likes music. Let's talk about music. I don't see any waffling back and forth here.

Suddenly LQ's affinity and history with music is backtracking on her social issues and not a 'real conversation' topic? If people wanted to do this instead of sparring, I don't know why they also don't want to really commit to it and have a real conversation. I wasn't in favor to begin with but we should at least double down and not awkwardly waffle back and forth.
I imagine LQ might too, if Bao Qian's picking up on her influences in LQ's art.
The funniest thing is he's going to talk about these musicians and their styles and schools of philosophy and whatever, while having listened to almost none of their actual works, due to the way Music works and the loathe to record that most who follow the Path have.Indeed. Like, hell, talking about music is the thing that most directly relates to his question even!

Because sparring and talking about deeply personal topics don't have to be the only two ways to go. The goal was to help her socialize; in the case of Bao Qian, to start building a friendship. A casual topic relevant to their shared interest in music is a nice way to do this.If people wanted to do this instead of sparring, I don't know why they also don't want to really commit to it and have a real conversation. I wasn't in favor to begin with but we should at least double down and not awkwardly waffle back and forth.
Literally, the conversation got so awkward that Bao Qian himself recommends lighter topics. Why do we repeatedly have to over-commit to every action? Let's give LQ the opportunity to have a casual conversation and build a normal friendship with someone. Not everything needs to be done with a doubling down mindset..."Deal," he said with a weak chuckle. "Let us move on to lighter topics!
The way I'm looking at this vote is "the process/method of opening up isn't ideal" and so that's a ends justify means argument. Thus, I dislike the idea of "ripping out the band-aid" as a doubling down measure because it's relying on a good conclusion and putting the burden on Bao to fix LQ's issues.I feel like the impersonal option is just a half-measure at this point. I personally wanted to rip the band-aid off, kinda. Though LQ may be feeling uncomfortable right now, I think she'll ultimately benefit from pushing past her comfort zone and challenging herself. A good way to clear the air, clarify things to stop the awkwardness is to be frank about whats going on. Right now LQ is clamming up. If she becomes more open like the personal option suggests, there's a chance the air will be cleared. Also Bao Qian will deff reciprocate because he's socially adroit enough to see that's what needs to be done. Bao Qian opening himself up to her will likely help her feel like they are on equal ground. Of course the arguments for the impersonal option has its merits too.
Because my goal in voting for this scene wasn't "I want to ratchet up to Maximum Intimacy on this social link ASAP," it was "I want Ling Qi to get more comfortable in a one-on-one personal conversation with someone she isn't already emotionally invested in."If people wanted to do this instead of sparring, I don't know why they also don't want to really commit to it and have a real conversation. And as well as that I wanted to talk about music, so, uh...Because my goal in voting for this scene wasn't "I want to ratchet up to Maximum Intimacy on this social link ASAP," it was "I want Ling Qi to get more comfortable in a one-on-one personal conversation with someone she isn't already emotionally invested in."
